Hey all, I played Warmachine back many long years ago right after it first came out with Khador and got regularly curbstomped by Cygnar. Due to some time constraints and some rave reviews I have heard about the Mark 2 versions I am considering giving it another shot. I also played some Everblight as soon as Hordes was released but it never really took off in my group (I liked it better than Warmachine, honestly).
Anyway, I am looking to start 1 force and need help figuring out which would be best for me. I am slightly leaning hordes but not a ton. Basically, I like playing armies that are fast and tend to be a bit tricksy. I don't like point and click armies and I don't like gunlines.
Any help you guys could provide would be awesome.
Thanks,
Patrick

Not Khador. I think most other factions can do fast and tricky, but I'm really only familiar with mercs, Cygnar and Khador at this point.

Fast? Legion or Circle.
Or are you specifically talking Warmachine factions?

Khador can be fast...with Karchev. If your looking for the fastest armies then its got to be Legion/Circle for Hordes, Cryx for Warmachine. I would honestly pick the models you like best.

Thanks to everyone who answered. I found Khador pretty static when I was playing them so I would rather check something else out.
I like lots of the models so I figured I would focus on play style. Circle is interesting, I haven't really checked them out much before so I will take a look.
I do kind of like Skorne but I have heard that their style is pretty slow.

Skorne speed is like Khador. Certain builds will give you speed like woah.

If you just play Titans they can be, or when you run into pHaley. However Skorne's speed will suprise you.
Gladiator's animus gives you extra inches and pathfinder.
Rhindon's are speed 5
Our lights are Spd 6
Our infantry is average speed of 5 or 6 (which is normal)
pMorgoul, eMakeda have speed/movement spells.
pMorgoul, MK, Gladiators Animus = stupid long threat range.

Right, but that's like building fast Cygnar around Kraye, or
fast Menoth around Amon or Vindictus. It's not their standard
build, and not only that, it doesn't take as much advantage of
a fast build as fast armies do.
Still, they do have benefits.
like the eMakeda molik Karn wtf stuff.

My 2nd game ever, I got killed by Molik Karn from 22 inches away. But I agree with you Malfred, Skorne are situationally fast.
If you want a really fast army, that hits like Khador and is fast like Cryx, you should look at Legion of Everblight.

Do you like beastheavy or do you want lot's of infantry? Do you want both??
Beast heavy is pkaya or ekaya (prime or epic). Circle also has a caster that can transform in a beast named Kromac. He also likes beasts. If going constructheavy then Baldur is very nice.
For infantry I really do not know who to take, as I only play beastheavy.
Legion can also be very fast and hardhitting. However it also has some nice tricks for grinding in the fast, but heavy armoured carnivean and scythean. As mentioned the lessers are in a league of their own (pun intended) and can be very good solo hunters.
everything is down to how you want to play, so if you haev more info on that we will be able to help a bit more...
BTW, do not forget abvout all the cryx fun. They are fast, can hit very hard and have undead and pirate theme going for them. As well as lots of horny woman. What is not to like

Don't forget their great racks
@ OP, I just recently got into WM/H myself, and while I started with Circle, I also ended up getting some Menoth and Khador. I found that I enjoyed the raw power of Khador (I run Karchev with field gunners and mortars) and the speed and power of Circle, while not really digging Menoth (if you don't run a choir, you're doing something wrong) to finally getting into Skorne and finding my niche in the game. I've gotten really comfortable with the ways you can manipulate your beasts' speed and fury, and they hit REALLY hard. Nothing quite like a strong headbutt(free power attack from beast handlers) doing 15+ 3d6(boosted) followed up with a gauntlet smack for 16+ 3d6(boosted). Good fun.
Either way, go with aesthetics and you can't go wrong. Some armies are not newbie friendly, but have newbie friendly builds until you're more comfortable with the game. Or at least I'm noticing. My final thoughts though, as a long time 40k player, it's nice to find a game that doesn't wear my out mentally and physically after a tournament. The game is very refreshing and no two games are ever the same.

Okay awesome thanks guys. My friend has Circle and after reading some more I am starting to lean Everblight.
I like warbeasts more than infantry though, are there any forces that can be primarily warbeasts/warjacks and still be competitive? Any specific casters that help out with this?

I can honestly say that despite also being fairly new, infantry are just as important as the beats/jacks. They'll fill different roles on the battlefield, but they are still very much important. But if you're not looking at playing in tournaments, then I wouldn't worry much about it.
As for Everblight, there's a caster for them that turns into a war beast and the model comes magnetized. It's pretty cool. There's also Thagrosh the Messiah, he's pretty dirty with the Carnivean, and Shepherds help with fury management as I understand it.

Ah yes, Bethayne is the warlock who melds with her companion
warbeast. I'm not sure what her synergy with beasts is, though. I'll
check out her rules later.

Yeah I was just checking her out, the model looks pretty awesome. Also, the Hellion and Nyss Sorceress are really sweet looking as well.
As for infantry/cavalry - for Legion are there any must takes or must avoids?

Legion infantry are decent.
Very focused roles though.
The Archers get a bad wrap and are overshadowed by the Striders, but that's just theoryhammering/internet speak.
Swordsmen are scary on the charge.
Hex Hunters are all kinds of awesome, esp. with Beth.
That's all I've experienced...I'm not a fan of the Warmongers though, too slow with respect to the rest of the list.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
