Subject: 28mm WWII Models and rules

Dangerous Outrider

Okay if I may.
I am highly interested in building a WWII force, most likely with the Bolt Action Models, as I am most comfortable working in 25/28mm scale.
Most likely British infantry/Armour.
I am wondering about a few things.
Decent rule sets and were to go. I am more interested in points system but I am interested in trying a more narrative style of play too.
Scale for vehicles in this size. I have seen some good links in a thread in which Kroothawk posted. Are there any others?
I am guessing resources for painting can be found in books and such like. As can force organisation too.
Is there any other advice that could be given to someone interested in this type of wargaming?

For vehicles, look for 1/56th scale items.
This gives you the best fit with 28mm and the best selection.
Plenty of makes out there, Warlord Games have the old BAM range, Sloppy Jaloppy have some, JTFM, Brigade Games, plus others.
Rules, well I dont use points sytems as I play scenario based games, but I have heard that alot of GW players find 'Rules of Engagement' to their liking as it has a decent enough points system. I own it but never played it as points based play isnt my cup-o-tea.
I would urge you to look outside points driven systems and see what else is on offer... The beauty of historical gaming is that whatever you but can used for any set of rules.
Im also hearing good things about the Crusader ruleset 'Rate of Fire' but again have not played it.
I use Force-on-Force for my WW2 skirmish games, but that doesnt have a points system at all.
Other advice?
Join a few purely historical wargame forums, I will plug my own here www.guildwargamers.com, as they will give you ideas on manufacturers to use and rules. Not too mention lots of eye candy!

1/56 as opposed to 1/48? I've always heard that it was the other way around.

1/56th scales out to 28mm.
1/48th scales out to 35mm.
I have owned both, and for BAM figures the 1/56th scale vehicles will look the correct size. 1/48th scale will be too large.
If you want to use 1/48th scale than I would go with the Northstar Figures 35mm figure range. They match up with the tanks and available plastic 1/48th tank crew figures.
For 28mm gaming though, 1/56th has become the norm, pushing out 1/48th (35mm) and 1/60th (25mm). There is a surprising difference in the scales so for my money I would go with 1/56th as that seems to be what the manufacturers have decided as they are all doing resins in that scale to match each other.

Thanks.
I was scanning over the Rules of Engagement earlier today. I like the format, does away with points, but gives you a sliding scale for various scenario based play based around infantry which I like the idea of, but also gives the option for tanks etc.
Thanks for the info on scaling as well

iron ivan productions disposable heros . seven coffins for seven brothers . this rule sets cheap and quick to pick up . has a lot of cool rules like tank crews have to make spotting to target infantry . the more concealed they are the harder to locate and fire on them . also the rule books cheap and includes a german and american list . it goes for about 16 $ bucks and the army books are about $ 14 . definately check it out . its what i use .

Does anyone know anything about Operation Squad by Warlord games?
