Isn't there a youth league tournament system in England?

Can your dad or uncle or someone participate with you? IME a lot of events will allow an underage kid to play if they have a parent/guardian figure in attendance as well. I've known a couple of dad/son pairs who attended tournaments together over the years. Of course, this requires him to have an army and be interested in playing too. Sometimes a non-relative can take responsibility too. I used to attend sci-fi conventions when I was a teenager which would allow me to be on site without a parent as long as there was another adult present at the con who signed a waiver taking responsibility for me.

My wife is already trying to convince me to take my 3 year old to tourneys.

I can't wait until he's old enough to hang out for 8 hours.

Back on-topic though, that's a pretty good solution and has the bonus of quality time with your dad/uncle/older family member.

i'm surprised you have a problem finding tournies in the UK because of age restrictions. across the pond, i've never been to a tourney that had one. maybe its a product of the private pay-to-play club hobby system in the UK vs the store based one in the US (where a store owner would never want to turn away a possibly paying customer just because of age).

That's lame they won't let you participate. This game is at its core a game for young lads. Just most of us haven't grown up.

I'm surprised your area does not have underaged events. My LFGS Showcase runs usually 3-4 "young gunz" events where younger gamers are encouraged to play. Its usually a sunday afternoon, low cost event. I've always thought it was a great idea, because those younger gamers do grow up one day and become old heads

Really, just ask your Dad to attend and tell the shop owner. I'm sure they would ok that.

I know one day when my 5 year old gets old enough to appreciate the game----I would gladly attend the tournament with him. Unless we had to play each other of course---in which case I would threaten him with punishment every time he said "Ok shooting phase".

Our FLGS has a dad/son combo, and they've been playing for a few *years* now; the kid is now 12. He does play in the monthly RTTs, knows his rules and finishes midfield to bottom, but is a really good sport and actually pleasant to play.

I do know of a tourney in Calif that mentioned an age restriction.

I'd guess that if you can start playing on other days at that store and the tourney organizers see you, get to know you, and become comfortable with your level of capability, then you might just get a 'pass'.

Otherwise, bring a family member, who will sit by, and keep quiet if they aren't a 40k player.

Most tournaments don't care at all enough to go through with checking ID's and stuff (at least in US)

I used to be 14 playing at the old GW GT's without any problems, and they said that you had to be 16 to participate. It was more of a don't ask don't tell sort of deal.
