Has anyone ever had some custom bits sculpted and cast (for example, resin cast)? Are there dakkaites that do this regularly?

What sort of cost would I be looking at (anywhere between 3-7 different SM/Terminator scale heads)?

And this would certainly not infringe GW's IP, unless they somehow have a trademark on anything 28mm scale.

Minimax makes a variety of "Steam Knight" helmets that might help;

I used one of those for my TS Terms.

The cost of making molds and casting in resin is rather steep if it's just for small batch work. For example, you're looking around $30 just for the silicone rubber to make a few small molds, $30 for decent resin.

The big problem is that the good stuff isn't sold in really small amounts. I use Smooth On products and the smallest batches run $30. There are other resins out there but dollar for dollar smooth cast 300 or 305 is the best IMO.

The process itself isn't tragically difficult though.

Actually, what I'd like is to make heads similar to the Egyptian gods (falcon, cat, jackal), but it's a little beyond my meager sculpting ability.

I could buy Wargods of Aegyptus stuff, but if I'm going to spend $35 for 10 (single god) heads, I figured I'd see if I could get some made cheaper.

Thanks for the advice

I was aware of those, and while they're good, I don't think they'd work well as helmets for well..anything.

I'm not really sure what market Scibor is trying to capture with those. I can't imagine they'd look very good as a head.

Yeah, they certainly aren't as broad as I would like.

While I can't really suggest it-----getting a head you like and casting it with RTV would certainly be easy to do----but unfortunately cost prohibitive due to the initial buy in of resin/RTV.

Looking at prices online, it looks like RTV is approx. $30 for a 1 pound container, then $30 for resin. Only I'd only need a small amount of the RTV and resin.

So looks like I need to find someone who already has the RTV & Resin and is willing to take on a commission.

I do indeed. Send me pics of what it is you need to cast and I can get an estimate for you.
