A galaxy far far away

So I have a question for Dakka

I have a small unit of Grey Knights that were given to me by a friend. I want to use the models when gaming but dont really want to build another army(financially it is not an option right now, plus I have a 40k and fantasy army on the go).

Would it be confusing to use them as vanguard vets in a SM army?

Thoughts?

Not really, especially if you tell your opponent up front and if they are armed 'correctly' or 'close enough' and if you have no other Vanguard units...

But really, in the end, it is no big deal!

Same reply I almost always give to counts as;

If you explain it before you play and they have a problem with it---you're gaming with the wrong guys.

Go for it as long as they are your only Vanguard unit and your opponent knows, most people would be cool with it. I would and have let people use stranger proxys.

If you think about it, as said before, just try and make sure that they have the correctish weapons and ask your opponent and they'll probably be fine with it. If you are ever entering a tournament, though, you'd have to ask the Tournament Organiser and tell them about it and see what they say.

It is ignorant of you to assume that the person who does not want to play against a count as is the bad guy.

In this case the count-as is fine and has no real problems, but saying that people are "the wrong guys" if they don't get your count-as makes you the bad guy. Forcing a bad count-as on people, and expecting them to be okay with it "or else they're TFG" makes you TFG.

Grey Knights as foot Vanguard vets would be no problem, their wargear can be represented appropriately.

Oh yeah, I agree tournaments can be different affairs. Most local tournaments I've been to though are as laid back as basement gaming guys. Some exceptions however.

It depends on thier loadout, and the numbers of figures your talking about as "a small unit."

You didn't say anything other then "a small unit given to you by a friend." thats the confussing part that people here have overlooked and inferred thier own opinion.

Post unit numbers and loadouts, please.
