Subject: silly question but in what specific order do you deploy?
|
 |
Wondering Why the Emperor Left
|
i've played a few editions of WH40K and in this one i don't believe it states in which order you deploy your units. myself and the players i tend to battle with are also a little perplexed and one of them is adamant you deploy as they appear in your codex i.e HQ first, Elites Second etc, etc but i still believe in the older versions such as Heavy Support first all the way upto fast attack and HQ's last.
Am i wrong or have we just missed something?
thanks for the help.

You can deploy your units in any order you feel like.

your kidding, right?
i always thought it was strange that your lynchpin of the your army, your HQ, would be out first. Can anyone else verify this?
cheers man.

Follow on: Once a unit has been deployed i.e it actually hits the table can you redeploy it before the end of your deployment phase? Say move it from the left flank to the right for better LOS etc etc?

I never kid, man barbies is SERIOUS BIZNUS!
In all honestly there are no rules for how you deploy your army in 5th ed. You get told where to deploy them but not how, so go wild. Essentially yes, you deploy your entire army as your 'deployment phase' it's not unit by unit, it's Army by Army. So you can mess around with your deployment as much as you like until you're done. Once your Deployment phase is over you're stuck with it.

While there is no actual rule for it, its common practice to move stuff around while deploying later units.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.

See Aramoro - your army is being deployed unit you tell your opponent that you're done. Until then feel free to move anything around any way you like, put units from reserve onto the game an the other way around, move infantry out of the way for more tanks, place units into better shooting positions or pull an IC from some unit and put it with another.
But once you're done, no more moving.

Well, you can redeploy as often as you wish----provided you don't say "I'm done". Your deployment phase is yours-----you can second guess your placement, move things around, etc. Provided you don't say "I'm finished" and let him start deploying.

It was a rule from an Editions past. Some time ago, you'd deploy your forces by Force Org chart, if I remember correctly. Automatically Appended Next Post: Garviel wrote:cheers guys, this definetly changes things. but wouldn't it mean deployment could last for ages as both armies will try to get into the best places to get the best shots?
Garviel
Well, you're limited by your deployment zone, and one person has to go first, so he can't really line up the best shots. He can try to get cover, then the second person deploying try to line up shots. It really doesn't take long at all. The armies that take the longest to set up are not the shooty ones, but the horde armies like Green Tide or Tyranids.

I think you're deploying like Fantasy---where you deploy a unit---then your opponent.
In 40k, you roll a dice to determine who deploys first. The winner of that roll can decide to deploy first (and get first turn)----provided they don't get seized on.
When they deploy----they deploy their entire army (barring scouting units). During their deployment phase---they can move stuff around---reposition units etc. Once they are finished and state as much-----their opponent then deploys his entire army. You can't go back and redeploy units once your opponent starts/finishes his deployment (Unless your Eldrad!). So again;
You deploy your entire army---moving stuff around as you want. You finish.
Your opponent then deploys his entire army---moving stuff around as he wants.

Garviel wrote:cheers guys, this definetly changes things. but wouldn't it mean deployment could last for ages as both armies will try to get into the best places to get the best shots? Garviel Since its army by army, not really. but if your opponent is taking liek 20 minutes to deploy, give him a heads up that you wanna play not watch him try to find the optimal position for all his units. Its courtesy and sportmanship to not take more than 10 minutes to deploy (thats how long it takes me, maybe a little bit less, to deploy my horde army if i'm hurrying up, so, it should not be a big problem for other type of armies)
