The original CSM prince is the easiest to convert and be tournament legal but that shouldn't be the deciding factor.

Thagrosh is pretty epic it's on a 50mm base in the picture and is beautiful

The dreadknight may be too big for whet I want although the right concept for my Iron Warriors

The DP had MoT and wings so that will probably throw the dreadknight out the window (but I have yet to see the thing in person)

And here's a link to thagrosh's page:

Isn't he a bute

Well the DK is going to be way to big. So is the warmachine guy it looks. I would go with the base CSM DP.

Dreadknight: bad idea on several levels.
More expensive
Does not look anything like it
Requires massive conversion
Totally wrong size
Will probably look bad unless you spend a dozen hours converting it and another $50 on bits

PP model: not tournament legal, too big, no chaos iconography, expensive

GW Daemonprince: good model, less expensive, tournament legal, no conversion required

I suppose the metal prince will be fine but does anyone know which of the many wings supplied by GW are the best for making a conversion (or a mechanical way of conversion ala giant jump pack)

The CSM prince is a beautiful model. There's a fantasy model that's pretty good too... This one

Be'lakor is freaking gorgeous, that or the PP mini would be my choice, gs or convert on some chaos symbols and you are good to go.

The Balrog wings are very popular for conversions, how about those?

You can get engines from the Storm Raven on ebay or a bits site. That would make a pretty epic jump pack for a Dread Knight demon prince.

I think the Dread Knight is the way to go. If you already have a CSM army, you probably have enough bits lying around to make it super chaosy. It's also super easy to convert the baby carrier off the front of the model which is probably what you're going to want to do. You could then make a head from one of the awesome hockey masks that come with the Defiler.

It's going to look way different and stand out amongst other armies which for me is a huge factor in determining how I model my army. I want people to remember my army because it's different.

The only thing I have against the Be'lakor is that it's going to be quite tough to make it the mechanical demi-god that I have in mind. Thats where the dreadknight fitted, graft a CSM lord to the front and then sculpt some icons on and add the turbo 'boosters'. But back to reality I see now that it is huge (and on an awkward base) so I'm being dissuaded from it in that sense although it may have some decent bits.

The more and more I look I'm beginning to think that what I'm looking for will require alot of conversions.

Have you got any artwork that inspired you? Anything similar to what you want?

We might know a few places if we had some reference material.

Awesome Idea for a DP though.

Those are the kind of things that inspired me but the only thing they lack is that there would be the body of a chaos marine that is 'melted' into the the front and is controlling the robot. It'd probably have a khai gun and a hand weapon of some kind. The ways of flying have been covered. It'll probably be a rocket pack of some sort

Sorry for the repost but is the Penitent engine the right size for a deamon prince?

What's wrong with the current plastic Daemon prince?

Penitent Engine is a little smaller than a dreadnought, about the size of the metal Daemon princes.

It's ugly. The pose is horrendous. It looks good only for daemons.

I could name more, but I think the OP shares my sentiments, so I don't have to

I believe the 'problem' is that he's going for an Iron Warriors sort of thing. They're very 'Obliterator-esque' in that they incorporate mechanical elements into their style.

So get the new Daemon Prince, get a sentinel for the legs, and use some leftover Defiler bits and make one bitchin' Cyberdaemon.

Seconded with gusto.

Surely, the cost and time taken to convert a DK (if you're still considering it) would be astronomical in comparison to 'mechafying' Be'Lakor or the CSM Deamon Prince. I will omit the part about me thinking the DK looks like a Mardigra Ken doll.

Also, call me old fashioned but I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to gaming systems and their respective models. I get angry when I read posts about using Gundam models to count as [insert random GW unit here] or a model aeroplane replacing a [insert random winged GW unit here] . Fortunately, with this particular conversion of yours you have a LOT of room for movement but please, if only to keep an old man happy, at least make it look GWish Deamon Prince.

Anyway, am interested to see what you come up with. I wouldn't mind trying something similar - more as an excuse the buy the old Deamon Prince or Bel'Lakor.

Rock on

I like stuff.

Here's an idea you could do

Get the following:

-Some guitar string
-A single defiler claw (from a bit site you don't want to buy the entire thing just for the claw)
-The deamon head from the"Squadron Command Frame" from gw (or ask someone who happens to own it but has no use for it)
-Greenstuff
-abit of imagination

And you should be able to make something like this:

Note that this guy is still very wip but it should give you an idea what you might be able to accomplish with the said items

I've used a number of different kits (both GW and non-GW):

The one in the centre uses the old metal DP, the one on the right counts as my summoned greater daemon and uses parts from the defiler.

This one uses parts from an unknown model for the body (all a single piece), with various GW parts for the arms etc and some home made wings.

This one uses some Warmacine parts, along with lots of GW parts.

There's one guy at my local store who uses the Balrog from LotR as his Daemon Prince. You might start with it as a base of conversion (though it is pretty massive).

Those look almost necron-like.

What about using a bone giant for the torso, then some mechanical bits (dread/sentinel) for the legs? Not sure where to go from there...

I have one of those waiting to be converted. Will be using it as Mortarion.

It would appear that what was my initial is not really possible with GW parts but looking at what had been shown a new thought has come into my head (remember it's just and idea)

1)Take one ''Inquisitor Lord Karamazov'' and his funky chair.
2)Remove legs and add the first 1-2cm of the engines of a Storm raven (from bits supplier) and put on underside to get it too fly, adding a substructure if it's not suitable to mount engines.
3) Remove/Cover all =I= symbols, replace servitors with a daemonic equivalent, mount many missle/gun/boom-thing racks onto it.
4)Find a suitable set of arms (to make kinda like a Penitent engine look) possibly made from the earlier removed legs.
5)Make the ex-chaos lord look as though it is wired and melted into the the ''chair''
6)Add one or more uprights from flying bases and mount on a MC base.

and now it looks like we a Daemon prince that lies some where between the Emperor, Epidemius and an Arch Magos.

Could it work or am I just over ambitious?
