Hey everyone,

We will be hosting our 'Second Saturday' GW tournament this weekend on Saturday, April 9. We had a good turnout last month for the 1500-point tournament and it was a very busy event! I'd like to thank everyone that came out and participated. Sorry for the late notice, it's been a busy couple weeks!

For the 40k event we will continue to mix things up with a new points level. This time around, we're going to go with 1850.

We will be back to a standard RTT format with 3 games at 1850 points.

The Sportsmanship score is 0-2-4-6. Generally, everyone gives out 6s across the board, which isn't necessarily how it's supposed to work, but I am merely a humble TO, with only a limited ability to influence the masses. The Composition score is a simple Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down notation. I weighted the Comp score a bit more heavily this time around based on some conversations I had with players after the event. There will be three bonus points available to players this time around:

+1 tournament point for having a legible copy of your army list for me to keep (thanks to KC for that one!)
+1 tournament point for being at the store and ready to play by 10:00am
+1 tournament point for being back on time from lunch

For Fantasy Battle, the point level of games is 2500, we will be running a standard three-round rogue trader style event for WHFB.

For both events there is a $10 entry (or $20 purchase) to play, and the doors will be open as of 9:00am for players to come in and get set up. I want to kick this one off as close to 10:00am as possible so we don't go too long. There will be prizes for Best Overall, Best General, Best Sportsman, and Best Army. Prizes are awarded in GW product of the winner's choice.

The prize split has been slightly amended to 70-30-25-25 for Overall, General, Army, and Sportsman respectively.

For both games, the schedule will stick as closely as possible to the following:
9:00am - 10:00 - check-in, sign-up, event preamble, pairings
10:00am - 12:15pm - Round 1
12:15 - 1:00 - Lunch
1:00 - 3:45 - Round 2
4:00 - 6:15 - Round 3
6:30 - Winners announced

It all goes down at Game Empire Pasadena
2302 E. Colorado Blvd.
Pasadena, CA. 91107
626-304-9333
www.gameempirepasadena.com

For the 40k side, given the recent hurly-burly about the Grey Knights codex, I'm going to put a few things out there in the interest of full disclosure. for this event:

- A Dreadknight with a personal teleporter is a monstrous creature that moves as though it were jump infantry (just like a Tyrant with wings)
- Inquisitorial henchmen in an army with Coteaz are Troops choices, which means that they are limited to 6 choices
- Nemesis falchions grant +1A total.

*Excuse me while I put on my bullet proof vest, crash helmet, and padded suit. If I forgot something, please ask about it.

Please let me know here or on the tournament thread on the Game Empire forums if you're planning on attending so I can get a rough idea what to expect and not have to run around turning tables from 40k to WHFB or vice versa on the morning of the event!

Finally, if anyone out there is interested in being available as a 'ringer' for the at least the first round or two, I would be very appreciative and spiff you accordingly. Basically, you'd pay no entry fee, only have to play for the first round or two as your schedule permits, and get some swag in exchange for making sure the odd man has an actual game, instead of just free points. And if we get a even number of players, you'd be free to hang or bail as you see fit.

If you have any comments or questions, let me know here or give a call to the store, and hopefully I'll see you there!

-Dis.

Unfortunately I have one of my few weekend work commitments this Saturday so I won't be in attendance . Good luck to everyone, hopefully the big scary Grey Knights will show up in large numbers so we can hear how they work out in a competitive environment!

Yeah. I'm going to miss this month. I'm sure it will be as awesome as always.

Since you're only a humble TO, shall the masses give back? Or, at least one from the peanut gallery?

On a basic rubric, shouldn't it work out like this:

Top score (6) - Awesome opponent! Looking forward to playing this guy again! Every rule-conflict/gray-area was a non-issue, quickly resolved. Had a lot of fun!

Next up: (4) - What I expect in a player in timeliness on his turn, knowledge of the rules and generally pleasant socially. A good opponent. We resolved rule/codex-conflicts and resolutions of gray areas well enough. Only one or two Rule Book/FAQ-errata consultations during the game that resolved satisfactorily.

Second from Bottom (2) - Coulda been better. A couple problems in resolving things, and I thought a few things *might* have been fudgy/wiskery/pushing it. It was an okay game, but preferentially, I wouldn't play this guy again. A little too argumentative, and I had to cite the book a couple times to prove him wrong. Took way too long to move his models; kind of a cold fish ....

Last (0) - Feminine Hygiene product. It was a pretty bad experience. I'm sure this guy pulled some long measurement/movement shenanigans, some cock-eyed LoS checks that he disputed with me. Not calling what he's doing. Bad dice habits: he picks up his dice that are "hit"s. Got pissy when I called him on something and sulked when I asked for some more standard tourney-level courtesy in play. Waaay over reacted to a game with plastic space men, creating a negative atmosphere. Gonna let the TO know that this guy needs to be watched or banned. TFG.

To all:
How's that look? Good? And if so, shouldn't the 6's be a little more frugally doled out?

I routinely give out 4s. 6s are reserved for truly awesome games, or for people I stomped who were excellent sports about it.
