I am curious how many people run their Halberd Warriors in WoC armies with shields.
Also, what mark do you give them?

I know that Halberds and Shields were the don for 7th edition because you could choose your weapon, but it's rarer now you can't, with preferences being Mark of Tzeentch with just shields or Mark of Khorne with just Halberds.
The only advantage with taking shields and halberds now is the increased armour save vs shooting.

True. Mark of Nurgle and shields would be some decent defense vs shooting as well.
Its iffy. On a smaller block it might be worth the points, I dont know.

Mark of Nurgle is crap, once you get into combat it does next to nothing against most units, and against shooting there isn't much difference when compared to taking Mark of Tzeentch (which is also infinitely better in combat). It's also a hellishly expensive mark.

Halberds and shields often do better against my dwarves because of my handguns. Helps them survive, especially when you are paying 20 odd points per model (if you give them a mark)

my chosen have Halbards and shields.
they also have the Favor of the gods and wailing banner so they most likely get the 3+ ward.
the shield is nice for shooting so i have a 3+ armor and then, most likely, the 3+ ward. once in combat, the chosen's 4+ armor and the 3+ ward is normally sufficient. they also go first most of the time so often they arn't taking much in return.

I think I see a lot with shields, because warriors look stupid without something in the left hand.

I take them with shields for this reason alone. Joking aside, I tend to have to fight enough shooting that they shields are a good investment for me.

Shields have been a nice addition to my halberd warriors, mostly because of Skaven armor piercing trickery. Plus, it seems like most missile weapons worth taking pierce armor either through high S or the AP rule (cross bows, guns, skaven things) so you at least get something to try and stop some wounds. The high cost of the model relative to the cost of the shield makes it pretty well worth it, since the shield is way less than the 16% increase in cost an extra pip of armor save would imply.

I follow that logic. Thanks for the advice. Looks like I will be modelling shields no matter which model I go with. I have a laid back group so I could always say they dont if I dont pay for them. Seems like it is also worth the points too though.

That's a good point too. I mixed mine with shields/hand weapons and people seem happy with either.

My plan, if I go with warrior models, is to get lance arms. My army is khorne so I am going to make them Night Lords blue with red fur, so I can also run them as either Khorne or Tzeentch, HW or Halberd, Shield or not.
My other idea is Bestigors. I have a large existing army just been looking for new modelling ideas that have lots of versatility. Bestigors could also be khornate marauders with GW.

shields, WoCs are so expensive you want the extra save versus shooting.

What I did was take the extra banner pole arms, cut them down a bit, then mounted empire halberd tips to them. The extras from cutting them down and some plastic rod made the rest of the poles. Pretty easy and the halberds don't look silly huge like most GW weapons.
