Man...this blog is looking epic! I'm got to many projects already, but I'm filing all these innovative conversions for later use. Really great stuff.

Arms are done. Now I can start building the `Fexes that they go on. The main bodies themselves won't really have much conversion work on them. I want to keep them "small" for a change to distinguish them from the T-Fexes and an eventual Old One Eye (the only special `Nid I'm missing now).

First `Fex all assembled. Still need some green stuff work, mostly around the head/jaw and his tail. Probably got a little over zealous and should not have glued the arms on yet, but I really wanted to see how it looked.

And the slightly less agro brother. Also in need of a bit more cleaning and gap filling.

Just to reiterate, since they Are super cool and are getting comments of being such, the claws are not my design. They were conceptualized by Hydra and/or Moloch over on Warpshadow.com. I did mine only slightly differently.

Same with the guns which are based heavily on Insaniak's design for them.

Ideas are one thing, execution another. Especially in modelling. All due credit for Hydra/Moloch and Insaniak for the idea, but your execution of the idea is very well done.

Good job. They look suitably terrifying.

Finished up all the cleaning and green stuffing and slight reposing I think I'm going to do to them, so they're all set and ready to be painted, which hopefully should be done before end of the day Monday as usual. Only notable new green stuff is the jaw on the agro one. To make that head different from the other one I carved out the Bio-Plasma bit from the Bio-Plasma head, as it has the wider open mouth. Then put the Tusks onto it and sculpted in the rest of the larger bottom jaw that the Tusks head has. Same thing I did with my second still WIP T-Fex, only this time I knew how to do it better. For the heck of it I threw in a picture of the pair of them standing next to big ol`pappy T-Fex, to show the different in bulk and size.

As evidenced by my lack of pictures of painted `Fexes, I didn't get them done in time for 40k night this week. Got some progress on them, just not finished.

Did pick up another pair of Hive Guard tonight to make into the larger Tyrant Guard though. Quick bit of work to get the basic body size/shape done. Used the larger legs from the Tyrant Guard with the larger body of the Hive Guard, stood it up taller, and cut out the abdomen to stretch that further as well. Still doesn't look as bigger as I was hoping, but I think the posture is excellent. When I get arms on it that should help give it some more bulk in appearance. Where I used a Termagaunt head on the Hive Guard, I used a Hormagaunt head on the Tyrant Guard for it's more spiky sleek look.

It's taking annoying long for the Boneswords to get delivered, but it's the week before Xmas, so what should you expect. Short of that, I've pretty much got the two Tyrant Guard done. Since when you build lots of big things and stand them next to other big things for scale, you can forget how big they actually are, my favorite little marine for scale, reconsidering his vow of knowing no fear.

Good news! I got the Boneswords I wanted in the mail today!

Bad news! They're not going to work for the Tyrant Guard like I wanted.

The problem is they're just too small. I didn't realize they'd be So much smaller than the Tyrant ones. They're perfectly sized for Tyranid Warriors, like they're designed for, but with my made to be bigger Tyrant Guard they look kind of silly. With the swords I've got on my Tyrant, and now the matching swords to give to Warriors when I get around to doing the Lashwhip unit, I want the Guard's swords to match as well. That leaves me two options which I'll have to consider.

1.) Order a set of the Tyrant sized Boneswords and have the Guard wielding them two-handed.

2.) Make some sets of Boneswords that are a distinct copy of Paulson's and are in between the two sizes he offers.

Went with just a single Bonesword each. They're modeled holding them with one hand, but the grip is long enough they could two-hand them. Just need to gap fill the hands and arm but I've rushed these enough I'm going to let the other stuff set and dry.

Dude, these are looking pretty good. Can't wait for our weekly target practice to start fighting back
EDIT:
Are you going to make both the hands hold the sword on any of them?

Nope. I looked into doing that, but the arms aren't long enough. The problem is that the sternums on these guys stick out so far, it would be like wearing a full backpack on your chest. I can call them two-handed swords, but making them look like they're being used two-handed doesn't work when all they can actually do is hold it directly in front of them.

Great work! It is nice to see the tyranids get all of these conversions as they are so few but when someone like you does it they really stand out in a crowd. Keep up the good work!

Need to make a 5" template sized base with a little crater and some dead gaunts for when the IG fire on them (semi-serious)

Anyways, yeah, your stuff looks pretty kick ass, I gotta say. Way better than what Jamie does. Just don't put half a building on the base.

How is the winged tyrant doing?

Excellent work on the nid conversions, As iterated earlier, the ideas like the claws on the fexs may have been someone elses inspiration, but you've executed them really well. I may even borrow (steal) the ideas myself. My only slight hesistation is with the swarm lord. I've seen the upside down fex body conversion before and never been 100% convinced. the bonesword conversions and paintjob are still great though, I'm a big fan of a more natural nid paintscheme, depsite not adhering to one myself.

The hive guard bodies with gaunt heads is also a nice look, reminds me of the way a space marines head looks slightly too small for its body, making it look more hulk-like, and I think the effect is similarly positive for the guard.
