So, I was in this place people call the mall a while back. And I had the urge to expel some bad spirits. As I went into the bathroom, I chose the urinal closes to the corner so I could have some privacy. So I whip out Lord Pevincy and let him loose the bad spirits. Well, I was looking at the wall as the Lord was expelling the spirits and I seemed to have gotten distracted. Turns out, I missed a little.
SO I'm sitting at my computer right, and I have a Coke, Bottled mind you. But it got warm, so I got a Coffie cup and I filled it with the coke and some Ice and I sipped as I did my internet stuff. So like and hour passed and I hadn't sipped any of it. and when I go to sip it, I notice that something solid is in it. So I'm like, "No, why would there be something solid in my coke?" SO I pull these solid THINGS off my tongue and guess what they are? F ING ANTS! I was like WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The very end of the movie is the part that stuck with me. What the guy did, and the fact that it wasn't even necessary.

The film "The Mist" ends in a much different manner than the book (short story really) that it's based on,and I feel the film ended the way it did in an attempt to get a "knee jerk" shock from the audience...personaly I think it failed.

Remember, not all groundbreaking work is looked on kindly afterward.
Look at Willis O'Brian's version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World from 1928...
It's the great granddaddy of the modern specal effects blockbuster, but... if it wasn't to teach a class, i expect people would fall asleep.

A few things:
1) Discretion is the better part of valor. Live to fight another day. If I had to fight, I would fight as hard as I could. But when you are vastly outnumbered or otherwise engaged in asymmetrical warfare, the English know when the pick their battles.
2) The ending of The Mist was rewritten by the American Media to have a more AMERICUH FETH YUR!!!11117 ending. The original short story has a far better ending, with none of your armed forces in sight. Also has the US Army at fault for the whole thing (I can't remember off the top of my head if it does in the film, as it has been a while since I saw it).
3) I've seen the original Night of the Living Dead. It is really good. I love the ending/credits roll.

The 1990 remake was also not that bad either. The audio version of NOTLD is also very interesting as well.

I've seen a few versions of the film - Can't remember which ones though. Which they would stop remaking the "living dead" films as it gets really confusing
Go make newer, better ones (and avoid making rubbish like the last few have been - return to the roots!).

I'm not looking for CGI, I'm looking for well directed scenes that make sense which NOTLD lacks. I thought the directing was pretty bad as far as "poking at the zombies through the window with your gun barrel instead of shooting at them" and I'm looking for believable characters that have some attempt at development. Nowhere did I indicate that The Mist was better than that movie, as you seem to be implying.
I get that it was groundbreaking. It's just not very well done as a film.
Edited for having trailed off in a drunken stupor.

It will actually. It used to be the weapon of choice for the mob. Hey if it takes a few shotsw no big deal. Its a .22Lr. Anyone shooting .22LR has hundreds of rounds laying around. Its why you get that round-they are dirt cheap.

The problem is that you have to get really close with .22LR. (and the mob uses them because they're hard for ballistics to match up and it's nearly impossible to trace the sale of ammo) Ideally inside of three feet.
When dealing with Z, I prefer to keep at least 25 yards between me and them, if possible. For closer encounters, 12-gauge is also really plentiful.

If by really close you mean 50 yards then you're right on. SOTD / NOTLD level zombies are slower than molasses in january. It won't be an issue. I have lots of LPs.

Eh.... 50 yards is in theory. I'll still stick with John Hopper's advice: 'never shoot a man in the head with a small caliber handgun'.
Since he shot a french Chief of Police in the head at three feet and it didn't penetrate.
.38 is about as small as I go.
Though I do have a .69 single shot laying around that it's easy to get ammo for...

Again this is the zombie games smallbore bullseye competition. .22LR scoped for the distance. .22LR pistol bullseye for short
You're thinking of the zombie games 3 gun heavy metal competition (iron site .308 or better rifle, iron sight shotgun, iron sight .45) and zombie IDPA, and Zombie old west shooting. Those are different competitions.
We don't cotton to no wussies who can't shoot in the zombie games.

Um, fraz, no offense, but in zombie games, iron sites are far superior for situational awareness then scope.
And the .69 would be old East shooting. Them newfangled percussion caps are for wussies.

Well scoped smallbore is a given class. Heavy precludes scopes but also precludes tactical scopes (aimpoints) and such.
I'll take Old West Zombie shooting vs. flint shooting. Thats two 18th Century for my taste. I preferred the 19th century myself.
Now that I think about it, we should have a special 40K 3 gun competition. We can dress the zombies in our favorite xenos outfits.

You do realize that match pistols can also shoot .22LR, right?
that said: No. Your effective range with a .22 is too limited (100 yards at most, the the bullet can travel further, she looses too much power by that point). .30-06 Springfield is almost as common and much more effective.
Against the Zombie hoard, THIS is your only true friend:
Though 7.62 nato is quickly catching up, I doubt that we'll see it supplant the .30-06 for a few decades on the civilian market. At least, not around where I live.

I haven't seen a 30-06 in some time actually. Seen multiple .308s and 300 magnums. 30-06 old school!
22LR is cheaper. Take your time and shoot them. Dude they walk about a foot an hour. Again, its illegal to user higher bores in the Zombie small bore competition. Come on, don't be a cheater!

Ok ok, we need a more amusing competition.
Something done Mythbusters style where we make air cannons or a catapault.
Zombie bowling- see how many Z's your machine can bowl over.
Z-Launch- make a machine that can safely retreive and lauch a Zombie(s). Major bonus points for making it full auto or belt fed!
Zombie Power!! Make a useful machine that runs on Zombie power!
And a general zombie question- why dont they ever put a helmet on the zombies? stick a full face motorcycle helmet on em and theyre not a slobbery biter anymore. Or just stick a kevlar bag on thier heads! Could make a loop stick to do that.
