CK - Thank you, as always. I'm liking him too, I found those 'wings' and had a marine in mind, but then I was looking at bits, saw the tentacle and knew it would go with them and needed to be something else.

Doc - Got to pull the crayons out now and again Maybe even start a new habit...

Well....I got a costume done, didn't quite get to where I wanted it, but it did the job (and I discovered non-solvent UHU acts completely differently to normal UHU)

https://www.instagram.com/p/BiSEjmnBLvS/?taken-by=zac.monkeytroll

Fantastic time was had, as always at Secret Cinema - wandering around the rainy neon lit streets with replicants, LAPD, blade runners and trouble makers.

So another tiny splash of colour, this time including bonus fluff/hair

Tzeentch flavoured marine...or is he:

Part of the turquoise horde:

And a couple of new guys getting ready to hit the primer... (once they've finished being cleaned up obviously).

Answering the age old question of how do snakes get on a plane:

Played around with several weapon types for the end of the tail, but decided some kind of rattler affair worked well enough.

And in for the final sprint:

Technically not actually ready for primer as each arm needs a tiny bit of greenstuff, but close enough. Whilst I'm there I might add something to the back of the head, possibly a cable, he doesn't have any cables yet...

Thanks for stopping by, I'll get some biscuits in for the weekend.....

Looks like you had some good fun The last guy reminds me of an opponent in 40k: Dark heresy - he was bad news - nicely done. Oh, and the costume looks pretty cool Is it some kind of LARP event?

CK - I can imagine trying to base him is going to be fun

Secret Cinema is an immersive film event - you spend a few hours 'living' in the film world before watching the film in a bespoke setting, with actors playing out sections of the film in real-time around you. The big events have huge sets, large casts, lots of work, often with 1k audience on a nightly basis - you get assigned a character and can get involved to a lesser or greater degree in the spectacle before the film (this time around I was a PI who was working with the Blade Runner division of the LAPD, working to infiltrate the replicant community - except I decided I was a sympathiser and so did things my way - and got fairly drunk i the process). I have had some amazing times at these, all completely different experiences.

Good to see you back. Really, really weird stuff you have going on here. The best of the best I'd say is the Inquisitorial retinue, looks very Blanche. The rest of it makes me want to give you a hug and the number to a good therapist.

Or to mention therapy

CK - Definitely fun

So enjoying the lovely weather for a change, so hobby stuff has mainly been ideas related, but did start a little something.

First, let's cut one of those boring monopose hellbrutes in half, and clean up the arms whilst we're there, just for any future usage.

Then we'll follow doctor's orders and chop up some sprue too.

And glue a few pieces on top of those legs. Add a little height, helps with the self-image sometimes.

And we'll glue a touch more of that lovely sprue to something like...hmm, what have we got? Ooh...I know, an olde-worlde Chaos dread

Put that together and it starts looking a bit more interesting.

And a bit of gs to hold it together. Mixed this time with a bit of milliput to provide a firmer hold for that hefty chunk of white metal.

There'll be further layers of gs for detailing, but just added a bit of texture in case it doesn't all get covered.

Thinking it may get the hellbrute's old melta, still contemplating a close combat choice for the other, maybe extend claws or some sort of power tentacles out of a power fist, but not the old hellbrute one.

Knew you'd approve Doc

So as my sculpting prowess has not been tested in several years, and as it had never reached the heady heights of goodness, we'll take a cue from the old dread and add some cabling...

And better add some to the legs to help tie it together.

And then we'll have a look at those all important weapons

Thought I'd go with a version of the power flail as a box to the second (I think) chaos dread kit. Took a while to find the bits to get the arm a suitable length, was originally planning it to be further back as though he was about to lash them forward, but couldn't get that to look right at all. So he's either just slashed up some follower of the false emperor, or he's starting a backhand swing.

May play with switching out the barrels on the melta, but I think it feels more up close and personal than other ranged weapons.

Both arms will obviously need a bit of cabling whichever way they go.

Apollinaire - Thank you kindly. Let's hope I finish it up as well as I started then.

genom.cor - Much appreciated, thank you.

Been playing with ideas for demonstrates and little gribbly things, but got those weapon arms in place.

Need to get a cable in place between the combi-dakka and the body (used part of a 'bus weapon as the little ridged detail ties in with the lead dread body).
Then maybe some thin wiring and possibly a tentacle....

Then time to hide it away in the corner...err...I mean paint it obviously, yeah, paint it

schank - Big thanks! The mad doks and meks will return to their chopping at some point, never fear. But chaos was my first love I'm gaming and modelling, so it seemed only fair that my return to dakka should give the flesh-labs the work-out they never really got first time round. It's only a matter of time till the pieces going together form patterns that are more orky than chaotic.

Llama - Thanks very much, been having fun with the dread, especially as it was just a case of picking up the hellbrute and seeing what occurred

Dr H - Thank you. He sometimes misses the ball, but he never seems to lose a game.....

So dread-brute has been getting a bit of clean-up and tidy, nothing worth showing though.

Did start playing with some daemonettes though (a dangerous game, but oh so fun)...

Needs a belt and some trinkets, possibly some work on the waist, depending on how I do the belt. Maybe some work on the loincloths, add some more prominent folds.

Bit of tidying, maybe a tail

Fair bit to do round the waist area, and tidying on the arms. Considering this one had somewhere to attach the legs, they gave me far more trouble than the first girl.

And a couple of gribbly little things

No good angles for the bigger one, hopefully when painted and based he'll present better. May redo the legs on the walking head.

And something that feels a bit more nurgly than slaaneshi

Head and wings are still being considered. Possibility I might try building a pair of lift rotors like the bloat-drones.

Cheers for stopping by.....

schank - Orks let me take the craziness of Chaos and up it exponentially, I'd not really touched them before I found Dakka, but when I did there were a few blogs showing what could be done (Arakasi and Commissar Khaine in particular) and I found a while new world to play in. Many thanks indeed.

Cam - Missed all you guys too. Good to be back at it. Coming from you that's high praise indeed, merci mon ami!

Just need one little piece to finish the dread-brute off, and then I can get him primed. (I think it's a grenade/smoke launcher that I'm after, have a space on one shoulder that needs filling, I'll have a good root around tomorrow)

Found lots of 'new' toys today whilst trying to find some bits for graven. Whole orders I'd forgotten about, some which will probably be forgotten about again before they see knives and glue, but some which I've started poking at, and a few big pieces I need to think about, before starting to chop.

So with that in mind, not an awful lot of actual work took place, but there was a little bit...

Bringing you that heavy heavy claw'n'bass sound:

There's still a need for servitors in Slaaneshi warbands, the slaves can get worn through so quickly. And any self-respecting Slaaneshi magos is going to want big claws and sonic weapons on his servitor right?
Needs more gs work around the waist, rebuild part of the belt, and I expect he'll need a few cables after that.

Big jobs:

Still sorting through loadouts for the big guy, and looking for something to close up his undercarriage rather than gs. Also needs feet. Maybe.

Feel my tentacles:

Arms and backpack not glued yet, left arm and pack may change. Right arm is going to be a bit Lovecraftian wolverine with three claws tentacles writhing out from the knuckles to worm their way into some poor loyalist's brain.

Not sure if progress this week will be fast as I chop up new found goodies, or slow as I contemplate chopping up other new found goodies

KernelTerror - I can't blame you for not knowing as I've been inactive for a few years Much obliged that you stopped in, and thanks for the kind words. That moebius road is in a sorry state these days, but that means I may scavenge the protagonists for a new lease of life.....

CK - I've been playing with that body on tracks for a looong time, never really got anywhere - although I have a few so will try again at some point - as soon as I thought about legs it all made sense Pretty sure he'll keep those arms, just need to tidy up the actual leg joins, and decide on feet.

Dr H - Thank you!

It's from the Puppet Wars not-necron range Their not-canoptek-wraiths, which I obviously needed for the robotic claws and 'tails' (as seen below)

kestral - Many thanks indeed! They do have some nice parts for chopping.

graven - That I am And of course you do......who in their right mind would want to use one as is???

Been trying to put together a corrupted magos all week, but it just wasn't happening. The 'base' was two bits I glued together in the distant past, ostensibly to make a robot-snake marine, but never got that looking the way I wanted either, hence attempting to make a dark mechanicus out of it. And then today, when messing about with the parts I'd put aside for backpack bits I put one in the head-space, and boom.....realised it was a servitor, and knew what bits were needed elsewhere.

I like the look of the eyes as they are, but know that I should really be adding another layer - either the lenses themselves, or something behind the lenses, as they don't make a lot of sense to just be thick old lenses coming straight out the front. But we'll see....

And once the servitor was done, the magic came together from completely different bits:

Still needs a bit of work. Axe head needs changing, extra arms and vents on the backpack, some additional limbs coming off the lower body. But I have all the pieces together, just need to figure out exactly how they fit.

And although it's not colour, technically it is painting....

And that's about it. As always, thanks for stopping by.

Hrm. I know I wrote a reply when you first posted that bastardized Dreadnought, must have closed it by accident (I post from work mostly). Since then so much more have gone on, but that dread is excellent. I mean wow, it's really good! The GS really makes the transition across the decades work.

The rest of your stuff is excellent modeling and paint coming along well, I can see where you're going with this. I also wonder how many Hieronymus Bosch prints you have in your house.

graven - Ahh, too kind amigo. Let's hope I don't mess it all up in the colouring stage hey I mean, normally that would be several years away, but maybe I'll look at some actual painting....it's not just an M blog after all.I

CK - Thank you sir. I'm still liking it a lot myself, always a good sign.

Llama - Many thanks. I have a box of the Melusai and two Cauldrons of Blood, all stewing in the flesh vats. I keep switching out torsos on the Melusai snake bodies, otherwise you would have seen one by now. Think I have the first one coming together now though. All sorts of ideas for various parts from the Cauldrons, some you may see soonish, some maybe later.

Skalk - I mainly post on my Fire tablet atm, so have numerous issues (biggest being bloody auto-correct) - completely understand losing replies. The original is a classic sculpt, that needs surprisingly little to blend it with more modern pieces - and luckily it ties in very nicely with my own predilection for tentacles and cables and such
Off the top of my head I can only think of one book I have dedicated to Bosch - wonder where that is.......

So alongside the dark magos, I've been trying to figure out a corrupted Inquisitor as a foil to the more loyalist one seen earlier. Fairly sure I now have the base sorted:

Very much still in the blu-tack stage, but you get the idea.

Unless I go this way:

At least I have the first acolyte sorted for whichever comes to life first:

And just a bit of fun for now, but when playing with the female body I couldn't resist seeing what might occur like this :

And the turquoise horde moves ever onwards...... albeit slowly

There's more metallics on these guys than show here

Squiggly Pointy and Noisy-lost-my-chopper

Armour dulls the senses

Lost his head in the excitement over meeting Dale Winton

Coming home from the dungeon party

Which way? I can't see you man....

Can we make a full set between us?

The heavy mob

En pointe

Got the moves like Jagger

Far from the best pics, but they show progress at least.

Trying to find the right balance with the inks, I like the vibrancy and colour, but it's a little patchy as more layers go on, and I'm not getting the highlighting to work as intended. Indeed the best highlights were when I just had a thin white on the edges before I re-layered the turquoise. I may try a thin white with a drop of ink to edge with. Not overly happy with where a lot of the flesh tones have gone either. Have some more pinks, purples and stony colours coming, so I can play with different tones.

Jokes aside, you're building some incredible stuff here. The Blanche influence is apparent but it's not the definition of your work. To me it's also Lovecraft meet Geiger meets (insert name of any insane medieval artist commissioned by the church) meets Monkeytroll. Because in the end, you have the final influence in how these models look.

Your work has frequently been edgy, always the stuff of nightmares, and shows the impossible and horrific side of Chaos. Truly illustrates the consequence that awaits all that turn from the Emperor's light.

Haven't seen a group shot of past accomplishments in a long time. If you've the interest and have the opportunity to do that I would really enjoy it. Or I could not be lazy and surf your photo gallery.
