Please don't make the front guns as ridiculously long as they are on the photo.
Best of luck with it. I'll be lurking watching.
Cheers RH, man after my own heart Yeah those lascannons seem to be compensating for something right

Thanks Magos, The Thunderbolt is my personal favourite, but I do ove the overall look and size and of the Marauder... I do have some changes from the standard FW model though and may also mesh the rear end of the Destroyer variant on this one (I prefer the tail of the Destroyer over the Bomber...)
Second section built...

As to the whole 'finish one thing before starting another' thing.....that's not really a thing is it? I just assume that if it ever looks that way it's because people have just managed to organise their photos and text correctly. Nobody can seriously work like that can they
I knew somebody like that once. He went stark raving mad. Or was already and nobody knew it. The human mind is not meant to be so linear.
So I am seeing 1mm plasticard for the fuselage? What is your preferred adhesive for it? That 450mm wingspan is going to be a challenge, assuming you intend to match the FW dimensions.
As far as Marauders go, there is also the B-26 Which is a pretty cool looking plane too.

Hah, you are on my wavelength - the odd folk are the ones who think they can actually complete their models in sequence - serious lunatics...

Yep - 1mm plasticard for the superstructure. I generally use 0.5mm & 0.25mm for the panelling and detailing. For the size of this beast, I'm using Eli Patoroch's templates for the basis, so presuming they are close to the FW model, then I guess that's the wingspan... I have plenty of A4 sized plasticard sheets so don't think it will be an issue (famous last words...)
Dr H wrote:Hey! I like working on one thing at a time.

Good start Ruglud.
Haha -Dr H, you are one of the maddest on here - but in good way
So... Update time. Managed to spill my pot of glue(again). The house is still a bit whiffy with fumes
Did though manage to get the superstructure pretty much finished - just the nose and tail gun sections to create. This is a long beast (well, that's what she said... )
Was looking at the build this morning and realised that I wasn't happy with the sectional approach to this build as I discovered an error with how I'd aligned the parts... So, stripped the rear three sections down and cut some new single piece panels.
Oooo, you have a nice try square. Very convenient tool for the hobby, or so I've found. Are they available with mm and cm markings instead of inches, in the UK? I generally use a mini combination square, although I would like to get one with a center head and a square head.
Yeah, misaligned stuff this early in a project means start over. Is the fuselage supposed to be tapered so that the sides have a slight curve to them?

A tough call to make but yeh I think that's for the best.... with all the will in the world a sectional layout for a long fuselage would always have a hind of "misalignment" I recon.... At least you noticed at this early stage!
It's best to catch these things early and fix them, rather than get it nearly done and find the last thing to add doesn't fit... I'm sure we've all been there.

Yep, all the panels will be recycled, as Bob says - 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle...'

The square has cm / mm on one side and inches on t'other - it's a full on woodworking tool so a little cumbersome for model use, but handy all the same. I do though want to get one or some of the 'engineering' squares as they are more suited to scale modelling needs.
As to the fuselage, it is tapered, but with an angled taper not curved.

Yep, got to be hyper critical in the early stages otherwise the end result will suck

We have, but still make the mistakes, you'd think we would have learnt by now...
Soooo.... Update time ? Yeah, go on then.
First up, let's admit that I made another mistake Must remember my dad's advice, 'measure twice, cut once'... Damn it.... Still, it's fixable in the long run,not something that will impede progress...
Starting to come together
v2 is looking much, much better - it's all aligning as it should now.
Size comparison with the Thunderbolt (sans wings)

Did some work on the basic structures for the fore and aft gun positions. The rear gunner has two sets of triple linked bolt guns (these are spares from the Stormraven I converted earlier in the blog), whilst the front gunner is likely to have two Autocannons as I'm not keen on the Lascannons that are on the FW model. The Autocannons will be scratchbuilt (these two in the photo are from my converted Stormraven so won't be used on the Marauder)
Looking really great, IMHO the gun units front and back need to be kept quite short... so they don't look like 2 whiskers that the FW model has! Bolters would be good.. or even the autocanons you mentioned but keeping them slightly shorter than usual would be a better aesthetic.... I think..
I'll come back to the Marauder shortly, but was cleaning up my hobby corner and found so many incomplete projects and decided the only sensible course of action was to...
start another one...
Not much to say, be interesting if anyone can guess where this one is heading...

OOoooo interesting...... for some strange reason my mind instantly jumped to a "40K Poseidon Adventure"! haha.... I think it must be the hull shaped forms you have there...

Hunh? Not a Swift Boat? Much sadness. You could have done a swift boat and found a mini that looks just like John Kerry ( current Sec of State here in USA) to be its cap'n. Google will explain.
A nice change of pace. I like the idea. Looks like a pretty good start too.

In trying to smooth the hull I made a mess... covered the hull with P38 (car bodyfiller) then rubbed down to get it nice and smooth - only problem was that I managed to go through the plastic on the edges !
