I disagree that the chaos gods are "supposed" to be purely internal/subconscious representations.
Slaanesh is the "sensation for sensation's sake".... which definitely implies an action or other outward things. Hence why Slaanesh's "chosen" marines in
40k are the Noise Marines.
Khorne is obviously the blood god, and well... I don't think he needs much explaining.
Yes, Tzeentch is fairly internal, scheming and knowledge and all that.
But, Nurgle simply represents the natural decay of all things. Of course,
GW added in that with this decay he brings disease and whatnot. For me, Nurgle is as simple as that, the natural decline and decay of all things.
