Would love to have the opportunity to discuss squadron setups and formations and stuff on dakka iin more than one thread with scattered and outdated information.

I'm good with an increase in x-wing threads but I'm not clear about the extent that you're talking about. Do you mean more threads or a subforum? As much as I like the game, I suspect a subforum would be somewhat dead for weeks to months at a time with FFG's glacial release schedule.

I have no issue with subTOPICS but I suspect a subFORUM exclusively for x-wing would be a bit of a wasteland at times in between 6 month releases from FFG. There's nothing stopping us from making the threads with the themes you mentioned right now to my knowledge. There is this thread for general news and discussion but I still put up another thread for details on my league games and you've got a modeling thread too.

Not sure what the best balance would be, but 3 threads dedicated to the missions, tactics and rules questions would probably be pretty cool. I will just wait to see if I hear from them and then talk to the team here to see what they think. I know I am not the only X-wing enthusiast here though

Well, one of us can start up one of those threads to get the ball rolling. I would love to see a more involved xwing community here in dakka.

I'd be down for an X-Wing only section, or even Fantasy Flight Games as it's own section on the site-it would cover X-Wing, Dust, Call of Cthulhu, Warhammer Invasion, Netrunner (which has become the best selling cardgame outside of Magic, even though I haven't played it yet), and a bunch of others. I have asked Yakface or Lego about this before (don't remember which one), and he didn't feel the forum was ready for it. But if you're asking for a similar thing Tom...mayhaps there would be a chance...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

There is a certain critical level of activity to do with the game that needs to happen, but from the discussions I've had with the team it is perfectly desirable and feasible to do it if the demand is there and organic. That being said, I am going to start a few threads as we discussed to cover the topics, as I do have questions to ask on a variety of fronts!

If you guys know people who play, get em in here and participating and great things can happen

They announced that back in April on the FFG website.

Do you guys always play dark vs light? Are there any problems when playing for example rebels vs rebels (except possible double characters which would only be a problem from a fluff point of view)?

I don't think there is any problem doing a mirror match if you have the stuff and want to... I mean it's not like the rules or system would break, see no reason not to!

No problems really but the matches can be a bit weird (especially if you're using only wave 1 ships). If you're not using a-wings or interceptors, the rebels have high attack and low defense whereas imps have high defense and low attack. Reb vs Reb can turn into a massacre whereas Imps vs Imps can be quite protracted. If you're using the wave 2 ships, it's not as much of an issue though.

Only ship that is missing in my collection is the TIE Advanced which i expect to ship tomorrow. So it seems its not much of an issue .

Its good to see so many people using the corellian corvette! I'll have to take a peek this weekend and see if the average ebay prices have gone up since I got mine a few months ago.

Indeed, if someone could identify the corvette model that is very close to proper scale, that would be awesome, I think there is one particular one that works well -

The corvette is called the collectors fleet blockade runner

Does anybody have a good cheap method for storing/transporting all of their ships? I feel like my usual method of tackle box inserts would lead to the models breaking eventually--they're much more fragile than 40k models.

I bought 2 of the battlefoam inserts for the game box. Here you find some of them. The Star Wars Game Foam Kit is what i use.

Awesome sauce thanks so much for id'ing the corvette!

I got mine on Ebay for 25.00 USD. They range from 20.00 to 100.00 on Ebay depending if it is still in the box. Was thinking about buying a second but didn't since I can use the money to make terrain to recreate the space battle above endor where the fighters are fighting in between the star destoryer and the mon cal cruiser.

No prob for the corvette. And pipboy is right about eBay, just keep an eye out and be patient. I got mine for ~$30. Since I'm planning on making some modifications/painting it (and, of course, using it) don't care how good the condition its unopened box is.

And thanks for the battle foam link mywik! I had previously only seen the kr one, but I didn't really like it. Could you tell me though--how deep are those foam trays? I prefer to keep the plastic rods attached to the ships when I pack them up, is the foam tray deep enough to accommodate that?

The ships are just so fragile I feel like they would break after continually removing the rod from it after every use, after a certain amount of time.

The one i use fits into the standard x-wing game box so unfortunately it wont fit with the rod attached. The other one is too expensive in my eyes if you dont own the fitting battlepack and i dont think they'll fit with rods attached. Could buy ten "replacement" ships for that price.

I already broke some of my flight rods. I simply magnetised all of my ships to the rods and bases. I'm also in the process of building a magnetic board. Really sick of shoving around the ships by accident.

It worked pretty darn well 2 weeks ago, so just putting it out there again, if you guys spot tie Interceptors in Barnes and Nobles, grab it and I will pay cost + shipping plus some $ for your time! Need 2 -

So, dunno if this is the right thread, but just got into the game, and I'm loving it. Not interested in playing competitively, just having a couple forces that have some fun character.

Basically, looking at the classics:
-Starter set (have it already)
-Millennium falcon
-slave-1
-TIE advanced

...what ships/quantities of other stuff should I pick up? (Again, trying to make 2 balanced/fun lists, not world ending tournament forces or anything)

It's one of several (the other main general one being over in news and rumors). I'd personally recommend getting 2 of each smaller ship that isn't in the starter set and one of each that is in the starter. The blister packs do repeat the cards/upgrades in the starter but do actually contain about 1/3 new material that is nice to have (like more special characters for x-wings and tie fighters). In addition, other blisters contain very useful cards as well (like the generic r2 droid and push the limit upgrades). The starter sets are great for building up the basic units like ties and x-wings but also give you more measuring sticks and tokens as well as dice for the price of less than 3 blister ships.

If cost rather than sheer variety is the bigger concern for you, I'd say add the following:

x-wing blister
tie fighter
tie interceptor x 2
y-wing
a-wing

For the rebels you have a core "squadron" of two x-wings with every variant pilot and upgrade along with one of every other ship for flavor as well as upgrades. The Imperials on the other hand get two squadrons of 3 ships (one grunt with 3 ties and the other elite with 2x interceptors and an advanced) to counter them. You also get at least one of every upgrade card as well produced so far for the game. I've been big on this game since before they came out with the pdf preview of the rules and my collection pales in comparison to the likes of relative newcomers like MT11... but I've almost never found myself lacking (push the limit is an almost broken upgrade and I woudn't mind more copies of it. I'm a bit late to the "here's my collection" party but.. here's my collection!

4 x-wings (2 starter, 2 blister)
4 TIE fighters (3 starter, 1 blister)
2 TIE advanced
2 y-wings
2 a-wings
2 TIE interceptors
1 Millenium Falcon
1 Slave-1

With two TIE bombers and b-wings plus one Lambda shuttle on preorder at my FLGS. That will actually be all I can fit in my foam case along with the chits and such so I'm not sure what I'll do after that... luckily, the glacial pace of the releases means I likely won't have to worry about it until around late winter.
