We all know the new Invader ATV looks like a dumb GI Joe Mario cart. Statwise, it's also clearly just two Outrider bikes glued together.

Soooo.... I went and glued two outrider bikes together to make my own.

Finished up my Bladeguard Lieutenant. I've got 5 more just like him for an actual Bladeguard squad.

And I re-jiggered my old flexo-arm dreads with some nice 3d printed arms and gun to be a bit closer to the "big robot marine" goal I was originally going for.. This fellow will be a contemptor with multimelta.

Another fantastic update! The spaceman helmets fit the vibe perfectly. The Contemptor Big Robot Marine is great, with the 3D printed bits fitting in very nicely indeed

Awesome update, that Lt is great but the contemptor steals the show! Took me a moment to work out the 3D bits from the rest of the kit.

Big fan of this army - Marines always seemed to have this 'hard sci-fi' potential (even more so with Primaris) and you're really coaxing this out with the conversion and paint scheme. More, please

I love the face on the big robot marine, looks like sunglasses and tiny mouth on a big bald head .

He sure has tiny feet though

Masterly done, great conversions (again) and real subtle weathering. Is the shield from the new Necromunda Enforcers?

Thanks guys!
Yeah, the Lt shield is from Necromunda Subjugators box, which is a great kit. I might still use the bodies for firstblood marines if i feel the urge.

Why settle for the clumsy meat-fingered Apothecaries when you can have the surgical precision of... THE DOCTOPUS!

Finished up a squad of Recon Marines to use as Incursors or Infiltrators. Was nice to change up the colour scheme a little bit and the phobos armour in genuinely cool.

Here's a comparison between the grey recon and the standard line infantry. It's subtle, but I think it goes a long way to differentiating the two.

It's funny how much a change in helmet makes the 'feel' of the model better.

Ok, name and execution of the Doctopus are genius, what an amazing model! And cool kitbash of the Phobos units, the change in color is really subtle, but works well.

Finished up my Command Bike (Chaplain on bike). Pretty simple conversion, as I think the outrider models are pretty cool to begin with. I found some tau bit that made a cool curved front cowling (I think from a ghostkeel?) and added some buttons and doodads to the dashboard to make it a little more... commandy.

This blog just keeps getting better! The outrider is a really cool addition and that cowling works fantastically well. How big is the force now?

Time to plant the seeds of a new army!
I've wanted to do Tyranids for a while as a nice change of pace from my clean-lined marines and techno-demonic chaos. My painting goals are to make heavy use of contrast paints, drybrushing, and glazing for some nice organic gradients.
Model wise, I've always like nids, but there's been some goofy design elements that never really clicked with me. Namely the bio "guns" and goofy dinosaur heads. My conversion goals for this army is totry and go more bestial and alien, more "cosmic horror" type look. More squid faces, eyeless worm mouths, spines, bee-hives, feathers, veins, all that good stuff. At the end of the day, they should still look like the gribbly space bug-dinosaurs that the core Tyranids idea hits so well.

I decided to do up a Genestealer for my first test model. I think stock genestealers are pretty goofy looking and have a lot of room to get scarier. First to change was the head, which I chopped the face off of and greenstuffed an upsidedown Pink Horror onto to to get something truly horrific. The limbs were the next conversion, as I think Tyranids have a bit of an "akimbo" issue with all their multiple arms. The models can get really jumbled because of the limbs, so I think reposing them will be one of my main conversion opportunities with this army. Scything Talons are perfect for folding down compact like bird wings, and tucking them up close to the nid's body looks much more naturalistic and also helps keep the model's silhouette readable. The Rending Claws I decided to elongate with an extra joint, making them more into gangly ape arms. There's been a couple genestealer art pieces where they look like freaky monster monkeys, loping along and climbing on things which I think is a perfect aesthetic to lean into.
Painting wise I wanted something fleshy and familiar, to contrast with the more alien features. Something like an earthworm .

Dammit Gibs, you've done it again, brewed up another brilliant army concept that takes a GW thing and asks, but what if cooler and more sci-fi? Super excited to see this swarm grow and how you fix the foibles of the Nid line

Also that bike chaplain is dummy good. I don't love that it doesn't have a clear combat weapon - the bike chappy is a real hammer in most armies - but I'm content to say the servo-arm mounts some extreme cutting laser or something

I tried holstering various melee weapons to the chappy, bit they all ended looking too bulky. In the end, I was content that the bike was hammer enough. :p

Thanks guys! Onto the next test model!
Painted up a Tyranid Warrior. I might play around with the spine colours a bit, try out some neon greens or pinks, but I'm pretty chuffed with this little squid-porcupine-raptor!
