It is nice to see the WIP shots. It shows just how much TLC you are putting in to these guys.

I know it's a outrage I haven't dropped by more often on this thread, but now I did and had a look at it all! What a cool project, and the figures you do look really, really pretty. Really dug your colour scheme on Fuegan and all the other phoenix lords really. I like how you're going with your own colour schemes on them all. Also: Painting Shining Spears is daunting, you pulled the classic and very, very pretty colour scheme off and even added lovely flags! Those really make those dudes.

Do you plan to mix the squads around or have an 'A team' and a 'B team'?

Thanks for sharing

Thank you IGtR=

I plan on either being able to build one squad of 9 or three of 3 and a variations in-between. I believe with the banners that difference in lances will be less noticeable.

Thank you The Riddle of Steel,
Since so many of the bits were ruined Guardians, I cut some of the straps off the lower legs of the really melted (looks like from plastic cement) and cut them off to make some are straps on the lance arms.

Thank you Not Online!!! and youwashock.

Now I have just finished the last three in time for the Unofficial Monthly Painting Challenge.

These are made from various bits to create the last three in my series of nine, you will find an Eldar Guardian torso, plastic Jetbiker legs, scratch built back-banner one one, the bikes were cobbled together from five damaged ones, and the lances are Archon 3D Smiths. I even added buckles to the lance arms to have them fit the look.

Shining Spears Travel in Style (and like all Elves, they look good doing it).

A great bunch of Spears Cap! You’d just think they were a legit alternative, so good is the rescue job. Is that all of your jet bikes done now?

Thanks gobert,
Yes, all the old jetbikes are done...well there is one more that is a real Frankenstein Monster made from parts of several broken ones swathed in polystyrene cement...I was thinking of giving it to one of the guys in the group to make some terrain with a crashed bike. :(

Thanks Briancj,

As requested. First photo I took really was to blurry for the second and third rank, so I have taken some better shots with two ranks.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

I have entered the last three into the Unofficial Monthly Painting Challenge for April "Travelling In Style" https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/798223.page hoping for some votes for perseverance as previously I have entered the Spears starting with the test model, then the next two to make a small squad, then three more, and now the eBay repair lot.

Now a tactical/game play question: Should I keep them on these magnetized large round bases, or should I move them to 25mm clear round bases that the original Spears and Jetbikes used to be mounted on? That way I create a smaller footprint and have a chance to make use of cover...as Shining Spears generally do not react well to incoming fire...and are not exactly good at defending objectives so area control is not really important. Since they were all eBay recoveries and most did not come with any clear stands at all, I would feel no guilt about reducing the base size.

I vote for keeping on the current bases - they look gorgeous on them. But then I don't 'play to win' and would probably abstain from shooting your shining spears simply because they are so gorgeous!

Thanks for sharing

Oh me oh my they look fantastic all together mate. A really beautiful unit! Whites are crisp and lovely and the carapace markings are super neat.

I think bases are totally your call. I like how they look on the larger ones, commanding a suitably grand amount of space, but I also think they'd look zippy on the smaller ones and we all know Eldar need a bit of help in 9th!

Afraid that I am certain my opponents will be targeting them first.

Those Shining Spears are looking the business Cap, I personally like the big bases, although for my own Exodite Spears, I've kept them to the oval bases as they are more representative of the mini. The current minis are based on 25mm flying bases though so if you wanted to be accurate, the smaller ones are the choice.

Exarch and the old platform are looking great too, don't think I've ever seen a platform like that in the flesh.

As others have said, those Shining Spears really shine. The white is so pure and perfect and the blue lines are so crisp and bold. Well done.

It is great to see the old metal Exarch. I used to absolutely love that model back in 2nd Edition.

And that support weapon is a rare find. I think my brother had a Gatling gun like that on one of his War Walkers. It is interesting to look back at it now. It is fairly "Imperial" with the simple tech and high-caliber barrels, compared to later Eldar weapons styles.

Love that old support weapon, looks really fun that Eldar gatling. Now you need another and kitbash it so a warrior holds it in his hands, 80's action hero style

Gameplaywise I would put the spears on smaller bases, even if the big ones look great. As an opponent I would have no qualms with that, especially since it's the "official" base size.

Thank you Tyranid Horde, The Riddle of Steel, Viterbi, youwashock, and gobert.

Yes, pretty well all the Rogue Trader Eldar Heavy Weapons looked very similar to their Imperial counterparts...which is why so many of my models have 3rd Edition replacements. Or like this just finished model, have made a small conversion to update them from their initial sculpt.

Next up are some Wraithguard I painted a while ago. However they were mounted on their original 25mm bases. So, like I did with the Avatar and War Walkers, I replaced the original with something more in line with their size...32mm bases.

Not quite as large as the 40mm ones that the new plastics are being mounted on, but these metal figures are not as tall either.

Great work on the Wraithguard as well!
I remember my younger self admiring them on the Eldar Codex (4th ed?), but the a squadron was way too high back then
