Reports from today say there is no new 40K model.

Huh - good to see communication is as good as ever there, then, if people had been told there was going to be one and there isn't.

I only heard speculation, no better than third hand, there was to be a 40K one.

The coat is not a good addition. Before you had Maugan Ra as the as you rightly say very obvious aspect of death, that was still visibly built around normal Eldar armor. With the cloak hiding way more of the Eldar underneath it, it loses much of the appearance of an aspect warrior and thus something characteristically Eldar in favor of becoming a much more generic grim reaper.

He wasn't 'obvious aspect of death' before. He looked like elf cosplaying SM chaplain. He actually looks like grim reaper now thanks to robe.

As for him being more 'generic', isn't that actually supported by fluff? From Lexicanum: During the War in Heaven, Khaine fought and defeated the Nightbringer, shattering his necrodermis, although the resulting metal shards pierced his flesh, tainting his form with "the Aspect of the Reaper." So, yeah, Aspect warrior trying to evoke Khaine's reaper look would necessarily partially look like Nightbringer, who has hood and tattered robes.

I think the main problem is that people were about twelve when they first saw the original. Nothing's ever going to be that cool again.

I really like the new Maugan Ra. I get what people are saying about the legs being a bit too akimbo, but I find the cloak adds a sinister air to the whole thing.

The guy was dressed head to toe in skulls and wielding a giant scythe. I think he was adequately forboding as an spect of death. All they've done is added a frayed robe with hood.

And frankly, I wouldn't even mind the addition of a robe if it wasn't frayed. It clashes so heavily with the rest of the army. Everything else is clean and defined. The frayed edge of his robe clashes with the aethetic and looks out of place. As I eluded to earlier in the thread, it's like he is trying to stand out from the army as "not like those other guys, a true rebel."

It's dumb.

I wonder how the legs are sculpted beneath the robe. If they are independently sculpted then taking of the cape and sculpting a new not frayed version would be easier.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
At this point now we are talking about extensive sculpting to make this one work.

Reposing, new clothes, new head, smaller weapon and another base.

I'm sure a third party 3D scuptor will make something suitable.

It fits with his lore as they explained on the stream.

I avoid watching their streams as they are so drawn out and generally vapid. What did they say?

I'm going to guess that it's because he's been in the eye for so long fighting chaos that he can't get a new robe? If so, that's a pretty weak explanation when he can now randomly show up at any craftworld to join in battles.
