After years of looking at everyone else's beautiful armies and awesome blogs here, I've decided to start one my self (the blog that is, it's up to you guys+gals whether it's a beautiful army or not).
Over the last two or so months I've been building up a Space Wolves Heresey-era Great Company, led by Mograine Deathblade (Logan Grimnar). I've finally began painting stuff, and tomorrow I'm hoping to get them photographed and uploaded.
The army is:
High King Mograine Deathblade (Logan)
High Thane Ymiron of the Pinnacle (Wolf Lord)
Odyn Starcaller, caster of the Runes (Rune Priest)
Bolvar Wyrmtamer , Chooser of Legends (Wolf Priest)
Iron Thane Skorn the Vanquisher (Venerable Dreadnought)
Thane Korelon the Guardian (Dreadnought)
The Brotherhood of the Whispering Wind (5 Wolf Scouts)
Chosen of the Deathblade (10 Wolf Guard Terminators)
The Rocks of the Pinnacle (10 Wolf Guard, inc. Bjorn as a Wolf Guard) + Moonfall (Drop-pod)
The Frostclaws (10 Grey Hunters)
The Hammers of Fenris (10 Grey Hunters)
The Midwinter Predators (10 Grey Hunters) + The Shield (Rhino)
The Fresh Bloods (10 Blood Claws)
The Slayers of Monsters (6 Long Fangs) + The Snow Lion (Razorback)
The Fury of Winter (Stormraven Gunship)

The army has a lot of Forge World MkII-V armour, a smattering of their arachic boltguns/pistols, and every model was built individually (no batch building) in order to get an army of utterly unique models, which I feel suits the Wolves.
The Blood Claws are about halfway painted, so hopefully will be finished by tomorrow evening and posted up. :-)

I noticed you got a stormraven in your list? Is that due to houserules, or an actual FAQ?

Having fought the High King on two occasions unpainted, and being well and truly decimated, I'm dreading to see how much harder he is painted.

I'm looking forward to seeing some Blood Claw tomorrow night before the pub quiz. Actually show them to me after the pub quiz as some sort of consolation prize. Why do we go to the hardest pub quiz known to man!

The Stormraven is House Rules. Manager of local GW lets any marine chapter use 'em and I love the model so had to have one :-)
As for the quiz, I'm feeling like second bottom already, roll on that £15!!

Very nice...
I have always liked the red shoulder pads on pre-heresy SW.
Wonder why they didn't keep it...

They really are looking good. Really like the gold....How did you paint it?

The pre heresy melta is so cool, I didn't really notice when I saw it the other day.

Roll on next week so we can see the finished squad.

purplefood - another thing is why did they change their armour from dark grey to bluey grey?

The gold is Dwarf Bronze, Leviathan Purple, Shining Gold, and then Mithril Slver edging. The weapons are almost done now :-)

Yeah the pre-heresy colour scheme is sooo much better than the post-heresy one.

Only a week behind schedule (blaming the unreliablity of warp travel), I've finished my Blood Claws - The fresh-Bloods. I handed painted the Great Wolf symbol in gold which was possibly the most time-consuming part, and used the dark sand weathering powder on them for a worn look.
Next I'm working on a Grey Hunter pack with 2 plasma guns, as well as Wolf Guard to lead each pack and a Wolf Priest. Photos will follow very soon.

I'm looking forward to playing against them. They are looking good.

They dusty armour really adds to them, I like the red shoulder pads and the yellow pack markings.

Any chance of having a close up of the gold wolf symbol?

I'm not sure about the flesh colour you've chosen? Its a bit dark imo.

I'm looking forward to seeing which squad you're planning next.....post an unpainted picture of them.

Here is the High King himself. Unsurprisingly he still needs work - bit of greenstuffing around joins etc. I gave him the Horn from the terminator sprue to represent his Inspiring Howl. The base is Njal Stormcaller with one of the new Grey Knight terminator arms, and the Axe of Moraki is made from 2 of the Frost Axes from the terminator sprue with 2 of the Wolf Skulls from the Grey Hunter boxed set.

Here is my first Grey Hunter pack - The Frostclaws. I was hoping to have them done by sunday night but I suspect that will be unrealistic. I think their armour is a little darker than that of the Blood Claws, but once I've added some other colours I'll have a better idea.

Really nice painting so far. The gold red and blue look real nice together. the weathering is good looking aswel. But some of your highlighting lines are a little to thick, for instance Lukar's top grieve highlight, but this is small issue. I bet they look great on the table.

Sad times - the dog got hold of the Grey Hunters whilst they were drying in the sun and savaged three of them. Two were ok, but the marine with the bolt pistol and bolter and bare head has been had both his hands chewed off. Will replace them with a pre-heresey bolter and a new bolt pistol hand tonight...

So not only is the dog trying to kill you it also has it in for your models! Lets hope what they say is true....resin causes cancer

The gold symbol looks good...I look forward to a proper perusal on Sunday.

Lol. thing is a menace. However, now my Grey Hunter has a shiny old skool-style bolter with chainblade attachment, so all good I guess.

I love the colour scheme, so much nicer than the space wolves grey from the codex. I had a chance to see these in the flesh (or resin/plastic to be precise) and I think the photos dont do them as much justice (blame the camera, not the photographer).
Can't wait to see the High King painted. Although is there any chance you could get a photo of the Wolf Lord, as he looks awesome?

Here is the photos of High Thane Ymiron of the Pinnacle - my Wolf Lord in terminator armour with Frost Axe and Storm Shield. Today he relinquished control of the army to High King Mograine for a hard fought draw against PDH's Death Guard army. I have never been so grateful to see a '1' for random game length in my life! Mograine was, as ever, a monster and slowly hacked his way through two squads of Death Guard and a Chaos Lord whilst his loyal troops died in droves around him. I did manage possibly the worst deployment of Long Fangs ever and was rewarded with some dire shooting from them as a result.
Ymiron is WIP, still needs a bit of green stuffing, and maybe a Talisman or similar somewhere.

I love his wolf helmet, think he looks really cool, I do think he highlights how cool the Wolf Guard Terminators set is.
How far up the painting queue is he? How are you planning to paint the Frost Axe?

Made in gb
Been Around the Block

Cheers. He definately shows the versitility of the Terminator frame. You couldn't do the same with the regular Marine one. He's not that high on the queue at the moment but that may change. The axe will be done like Logan's in the book, so black with red edging and Gloss Varnish. All the Frost Blades in the army will be done that way, and possibly the Wolf Claws too. Not sure about the Power Weapons yet though. Not sure what colour I'm gonna do his helm, the normal marines in the army who have that helm are having them done in white, so may go for black or red.

After a long time away, mainly working, but also was attacked in the street which inconsiderately took away painting time, I have some new pics for you all! I've finished the Grey Hunter pack (although still need a banner design) and made a decent start on the first Wolf Guard pack too. The army has grown as well, I've added some heresy -era Skyclaws with a jump-pack equipped Wolf Priest, a Swiftclaw Bike Squad, a Landspeeder Typhoon, and some more Terminators including a Rune Priest.
The Wolf Guard with single Wolf Claw and bionic arm is a Heresey-era Bjorn, before his incareration in a Dreadnought suit. The Wolf Guard with the 2-handed axe is Sarfang Deathbringer and will be painted with a palid look to his skin-may mix pale gray in and see how that works out.
Enjoy :-)
