So I'm working on a conversion of the AOBR Deffkoptas because I'm not planning on having any in my Ork army. However I am planning to have both Deff Dreads and Killa Kans. Hoping to do a little custom work I did the following...

So I finished the 2 arms and have an idea for the legs, however I'm at a total loss for what to use as a body. I have 2 more Deffkoptas, Miles of empty sprue, some minor bits, and a bunch of plasticard. Any suggestions?

Oh my god I love those arms. Especially the Rokkit arm. it's simple and effective. Cant wait to see what you use for the body (If you keep to only Deffkopta parts I might just copy you, as I have an excess of them).

EDIT: Sorry, got distracted by the awesomeness. Just make some legs with pistons (I think the rotors for the propellers would be good for the shins, and you just need some flat blocky piece for the actual feet) and throw the rest of the parts into a neat square/can shape, then tack on a Orky face on the front for a Dred.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I would use tank treads as legs, because it would be a simple conversion. It looks awesome so far.

Good luck

i've done a few kans with tracks, counting-as legs - a lot easier to make than legs. Just remember to tell opponents that they are kans, to avoid "I thought it was a warbuggy" moans.

For the body, maybe use the deffkopta chassis as a base, adding extra plasticard armour on the sides to protect the ork driver and to mount the arms?

Using the Defkopta Chassis isn't possible because I've used it for the arms, same with the rotor, it's the upper portion of the prop blade arm. I'm trying to keep it to one kopta per kan if at all possible. If not I'll break down and go to 2.

Have you considered using an old paint pot and some plasticard?

Don't have any old paint pots, or that'd be the number one choice. I think I'm going to build a framework from old sprue and use plasticard to fill it in. Wish me luck.

ok, if i'm correct and i hope i am, based on the pics, you cut the rotor armature off, then you cut the rokkits and their frame off, you then went to the back of the kopta and cut the engine away from the seat. this should leave you the bare basics of the cockpit as well as the tail rotor. so take the cockpit and use it as your frame to build the can around it. you'll need plasticard to fill in the side, the front and the top, giving you a really skinny can when looking at it straight on. take some more scrap plastic and some odds and end bits and build your a power pack for the back of the thing and use the tail rotor as the cooling fan for the power pack. after that just use plasticard and pen tubes, you can get a pack of ten pens at the dollar store for a buck or two, and make the legs. use the pen tube as the internal frame for the leg, and add the plasticard to the outside as armor plates, then use sprue pieces cut to size as toes. attach coated wire and guitar string to these pieces and taa daa! a custom killa kan, ready to go out and prove itself against the first Ork it can find.
