After my game this past Tuesday (which from the help of you dakka i had a very good list) I have been asked to play against Bad_Sheep, whom has a killer Space wolves list.. lots of Long fangs..and this disgusting kill anything Drop pod unit he calls a plasma bomb which has already taken out my dreadknight before i could do anything.. so.. i come to you again Dakka in Preparation for this coming Tuesdays game. i have spent the past 3 days looking and looking over my list. i don't think i can handle his. there is just to many bullets flying at me. So .. do i go all cheese and make a Monkey gun line? throw in some Vindicare assassin?? maybe some Psydreads?


here is the list i ran last week...

Now the interceptors really didn't do what i thought they would.. they blasted forward and ..died lol (should of known right?) So i changed just a few things up..and plopped down in their place a Dread knight with Teleporter and Greatsword (iknow it needs guns)

I was thinking of taking Coteaz(sp) useing the Warriors and such with chimera's or rhinos to snatch objectives. I was also thinking of throwing in a GM (i don't want Mordrak) with some Termies or maybe Use a librarian to summon a punch of Purifiers to him and just blast the hell out of everything(i sorta like this idea) if take Coteaz i am thinking of making my own gun lines with Servitors and Jokero(sp) maybe throw in a Vindicare for sure. not really sure at all. So...as i said above...throw me some ideas here Dakka.

When I run wolves the thing that scares me is lots of psycannons. I generally have 3 small units of 5 in transports with combi plas and melta, a LR crusader with logan and 7 wolf guard buddies, a melta bomb(3 wolfguard with combi melta in DP) and a plasma bomb(5 wolf guard with combi plasma in DP)interesting name for it, too btw, plus the three long fang squads. Not sure how close that is to your friends army, but my point is ... lots of small units so if you plan on assaulting them I give up very little, and make a whole lot back as your guys are now out int the open and unsupported. 2 psycannons just won't really cut it. Against other GK lists I have seen that rock 10 + psycannons I would be crying by turn 2 as they will have popped all or most of my transports by then and I will have maybe killed a few guys or a Dreadknight with missiles.

The other problem you have is that it looks like you don't have any transports in there ... that means that the wolf player is going to jsut shoot your guys ... and then shoot them some more. Rhinos and razorbacks help take the heat off and when the get imobilized or wrecked you should at least be on their side of the board where your storm bolters and chance of actually making it to assault actually give you a chance of doing well ... providing you have the psycannons to get his guys out of their transports, be they wolf guard or grey hunters.

Lastly for specific feedback you should list the size of game being played and the kind of list that your opponent uses ... for instance if he runs a logan wing with no transports and lots of long fangs and walking CML terms, then you don't need as many psycannons(you still need more than you have though).

Why a teleport homer on the Libby? Doesnt look like you are Deep Striking much and the homer only works on strike squads, interceptors and terminator squads.

veidin- I am DS my GKSS and my Dreadknight, i want them ((if not a objective game) plopping down with the libby and ripping up stuff. I call the list my leap frogger because i start nothing on the table. And with the GM on the table i have those 4 abillities i can choose from. Worked out very well last game, and i plan on trying to use it again.


Mephistoles1- My buddy Bad_sheep((he is a poster here on Dakka with very good battle reports) Does the Plasma bomb squad, using 10 of them(( here is his list http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/357075.page ))..very ugly with there is 2 of these to deal with. The rest is long fangs, and (i am not familiar at all with SW) termies that can split up and join other units he has a few of these guys running around with full units in DP's. He turtles every time which works great because i have to cross that death field of fire. I do like my list but.. with all my DS'ing..im dead meat because i cannot assualt after a DS or even after a summoning.. I guess i could cut the list down and make more solid units (purifiers) maybe even drop the libby, take Coteaz and bring in some long range fire myself (munkies w/ guns lol) .

The game size is 1500 so not a whole whole lot i can slap on the board as GK's. I am already way outnumberd if we ran our normal lists. All of his transports are droppods and i have none because of my leap frog idea. I do agree with your input about not enough big guns.. but these units are so damn exspensive...well it's tough makeing a solid list that meshes well. i do have this list..which is my first ever list tell me if you like this idea

Idea here is to balls to the wall in his face. IF it is not a objective game, Interceptors and Knight get scout and blast across board, 10 man SS and GM go in Stormraven and do what they need to, and 5 man Ss stays in reserve dropping down where needed.

Something else i thought of.... Bad Sheep i know your out there.. your not allowed to read my posts lol.

What you want to do is get your boys into combat with his dudes ... 5 GK will win against 8 bolter armed wolf guard and a single fist. If the fight goes to 2nd round you should be able to shrug off the remain one or two regular dudes attacks, and then kill 2-3, hopefully killing the fist before it swings. So the problem you need to solve is deployment of small squads. His plasma bomb pods are going to land and whatever they shoot at is totally dead. Thats why you need small squads so you can lose a few (or none if all they do is pop your rhino) and then counter assault, where you will hopefully get stuck in.

Those lists look a little better, but you are still suffering from large squad size out in the open. If you have Rhinos or razorbacks 5 man squads in rhinos or razors would work well.

So some ideas to think about:

put as many 5 man squads as you can on the table, and as many of them as you can in cheap transports. Keep em cheap, no upgrades, they are just a shell to get you closer. If you have to use the raider for this purpose to(or if its the only transport you have). Missiles won't touch your av 14 most of the time, and his only other anti tank is fists and such. I didnt see any meltas in his list. So that gives you one squad that is nigh immune to the plasma bomb and can be used to kill them when they come down.

If you have inquisitorial henchmen it gets better for you ... you can get some cheap sacrificial guys and their av 12 transport.

If cheap transports arnt an option, consider: keeping the grand master in there and using the gm's power to grant scout. use it on the dreadknight, and a small strike squad or two if you roll high enough. This puts a dreadknight in possible charging distance(if he has teleporter), and even if he doesnt put the pressure on early. Then do 3 5 man Interceptor squads ... have them move closer to targets to make charges an option on turn two, and this round shoot at available targets, be it long fangs or one of the two drop pods on the table(depending on who went first. If you do it right you will have enough squads that he can't do much to them with only his 3 long fang squads and the two drop pods. Then you retaliate and retaliate hard at whatever is in reach. If you can wipe out 2-3 of his squads (the two that dropped in and one LF squad)on the turn after the drop, then you don't have too much to fear from the next round as you are only looking at 2 long fang squads shooting and maybe one drop pod landing. then the odds are in your favor. If he likes to castle, you can do most of your moving toward the center that first turn or two so you can reach him wherever he goes when he drops.

Anyway, these are just ideas ... i havnt really faced a lot of GK yet, so someone else might be able to offer more experienced advice.

Ok, i'll work on a list incorporating speed and small units. What about terminators? they are 200 points for 5.. i don't like the point trade off at all, termies now a days can get eaten alive unless they are Hammer/shield. altho, that 2+ save could last longer on the board.
