The Battle Sanctum should be quite the project Sigur, can't wait!

@Gitsplitta: Cheers! It's pretty darned pricey for some plastic terrain, isn't it? Looking forward to seeing how big it actually is. So far it's next to my painting desk, still in shrink-wrap (just like that large-scale Marine, in case you were wondering what happened to that). Not allowed to play with my own toys as long as there's other people's toys on my desk.

Surprise, it's Banshees!

White Banshees against a white background. I'm a pretty rad dudeski, but that's not that good an idea of course. But it's not a problem; the figures still need the last looking-over and a few things fixed, and once that's done I'll do the 'presentation pictures' which will look nicer. Or so I hope.

Right now I'm finishing those dire Avengers, and then it's Fire Dragons time! the rangers will have to wait for now, but will be tackled soon as well.

How's everybody doing? Well? Good.

I hadn't seen the new Banshee sculpts before. Love them. You've done a great job on them Sigur... you even cleaned all the blood and gore off their armor before lining them up for the photo. (Some day I'd love to see banshees just covered with blood, gore and evicera. It would be such a contrast to the normal way they're presented.)

Nice work on all the Banshees, Siggy - did you convert some of them to reduce the pose duplication?

Wow thats inspirational stuff!

Those Yyanden guardians yellow looks so rich!
The Dire Avengers looks crispy blue!

I hope my guys will ever look half as good. Currently sitting on 36 guardians myself. Only almost done with second base layer

@Gitsplitta: Me neither! Well, not in the flesh anyway. I like them too. Because GW didn't change a darned thing about them. Still, they couldn't help themselves scaling them up (which to me is what turns me off pretty much any GW release of the past five years). Yeah, I think some subtle blood splattering may work. To be though Striking Scorpions always seemed more the kind to be all covered in blood and gore.

@Dysartes: Thanks very much. Didn't convert a thing, didn't even build them. I got this army all built, most primed, some half-painted. All I do is remove all the mould lines (ehem) and paint them.

@Argive: Thanks very much! Aye, I haven't painted many Eldar I have to admit. Until I started this army it was lots of Harlequins, but very little in the way of "actual" Eldar, which is weird. Started with the Guardians on this project, simply because it's the biggest "unit" in the collection and right away I was a bit impressed with the fact that even the humble Guardian is a bit tricky to paint. Great kit though; still.

Heyhey, happy weekend!
Here's another shot of the Dire Avengers. Not 100% finished, but getting there.

Hope you like them!

Nicely done Sigur... though I'm not really keen on the half-helmeted eldar. Seems very inconsistent with a race that wouldn't normally die unless say... they too a bullet to the exposed face or something.

@Gitsplitta: Cheers! I'm a-okay with the open helmet. I'm grateful for any proper face in a GW army. I like faces. It makes things relateable. I do get your point though.

Hello. In terms of Eldar, I'm currently working on the Reapers and Warp Spiders.

Then something else came up!

(they're still rather WIP)

It's a Van Saar gang! I got to build these ones as well, and the gentleman I do these for supplied me with all FW add-on blisters to these models. (so I built the Heavy carrying a Plasma Cannon of course Because if you can, you gotta have that plasma cannon Van Saar, if only to brag with that fact.)
On top of that, there's the plastic box itself. Back from the release I remembered how packed these sprues are with bits. When I got these out of the box I was reminded of that: there's a billion bits on these sprues. Really impressive. I also like the building methods on that kit.

What actually made me like these figures though is that they aren't all that oversized! Pretty much (large-ish) 28mm figures. As it should be. Very nice. That means that they can be used along with other ranges other than new-GW's limited worlds. Cool, cool. This brings me to the next thing: Once the blue basecoat was on their armour I realized that these figures actually would work very well for generic Space Marines or heavily armoured sci-fi soldiers. If you want you can swap the heads; just leave off the tubes on the shoulders if you wanna use larger helmets. Also feel free to leave off the extra shoulder armour. I think that there's quite a lot of potential there, even if you don't play Necromunda. 10 dudes for €36,00 or so. Not bad.

Well, and then I got a bit sick, preventing me from getting any proper painting done at all. So I decided to build a house.

Turns out I'm a bit crap at that, so it turned out half-ruined. That's why the big plastic lady is looking so angry.

Well, that's it for the updates so far. Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend! See you soon!

Hope you get well quickly Sigur!

Those gangers look great. I bet they'd work well as IG scions too.

Building can be a great source of solace (especially when your kitbashing). As cool as the new GW figures are... some of the builds are just insane. I keep opening up, then putting away my AdMech pteraxii sterilyzors because the sprues terrify me.

Aye, get well soon, Siggy.

That Battle Sanctum really is a bit hefty, though I'm still not convinced by it being £70 of hefty...

@Gitsplitta: Cheers! Yeah, better already. It's less of an illness, but rather two mildly annoying health things which came up at the same time. My overall mood took a fairly annoying blow by this. I reinstalled that plug-in that locks me out of facebook for most of the day, that helps. Just have to stick to not going there either for the rest of the day. And generally avoid social media more. I also got a lot to do in general. Anyway, you're right for the IG scions. I'm too out of the loop to know exactly what they are apart from yet another not-stormtroopers variant. But these van saars would fit nicely.

@Dysartes: Thanks, will do! Yeah, it's as with all GW things, but with terrain of course people think twice. Honestly, I only got it because I need some 40k photo backgrounds, because I'm afraid that my generic sci-fi stuff or generic ruins won't go over as well with the GW crowds as the officially branded terrain. And the thing works really well for a photo backdrop. The price IS insane though, that's true. I could do without the SoB statue (especially as these things aren't really impressive since a.) digital figure design and b.) the average figure being almost that size by now. Ah. I'm cranky. Got the usual early-in-the-year existential anxiety thing, I guess.

Uhm....update? Van Saars done, back to painting Eldar Reapers.

The Scions (a buddy of mine always runs them) are IG troopers with improved armor and improved weapons. Not as heavy as SM, but definitely better than your standard guardsmen. They pack a real punch too, especially in the shooting game!

Yeah, Scions are the derp-name version of Storm Troopers.

Hey guys.

@Gitsplitta: Yeah, that's what I figured. I (*putting my IG hat on*) was slightly intrigued by their vehicle until I saw the amount of guns and the price on it.

@Dysartes: Inofficially, I'm way on board with that take on the subject. But I'm old and boring. The figures are cool of course.

Quick update, here's the Dark Reapers:

Very, very good designs. I prefer the original helmets (as on the Exarchs), but the skulls are OK too.

These were always one of my favorites. Agree on the helmets... these just scream "premature balding" to me, but maybe that's just my age talking. What if you just painted the top part black?

Interesting idea, but I'm rather sure I highlighted enough bloody black on these guys! I'm happy about any spot that isn't black on those.

It is an interesting idea! Technically you could paint all of the "skull" above the "yes" black, slap on a rune, should look nice.

Lovely figures, timelessly strong designs. Also: fiery orange, which is a colour I don't paint often over larger surfaces. Really enjoyable. Hope you like them too!

@Gitsplitta: Yar, they're good, aren't they. This Fuegan here is the only metal figure in this whole army, by the way. Weird times.

@Tyranid Horde: Half the time I didn't even notice it. :-D I didn't build the figures, I just paint them in this case.

@Dysartes: Cheers!

Hellohello. Guess what, these Fire Dragons were featured on GW's Community Spotlight twitch stream yesterday. Never seen the show before, but it's wholesome, on-brand entertainment.

But now for something completely different. Here's my review/build report of Andrea Minis' Harley Quinn figure:

https://www.battlebrushstudios.com/2021/03/review-andrea-minaitures-harley-quinn.html

Hope you enjoy the article.

Now for the state of the craftworld: Rangers are soon to be finished, after that I'll tackle the Shadow Spectres (the "forgeworld aspect") and then the Shining Spears. That'll be all for the aspect warriors, and I'll go on to painting a whole lotta jet bikes and undead dreadnoughts. After that it's characters time!

@Gitsplitta: Thanks! Truth to be told, I'm not entirely happy with the end result, but she's nice enough for now.

The Firedragons got some good echo online. GW contacted me, they wanted to feature them on their Community Spotlight stream the past week.

Right, here's some more shots of the Van Saars:

...as I wrestle with 9 shining spears. Man, those finecast figures. Anyway, things are proceeding, and they bloody well should, because I'm on a seriously tight schedule. Anyway, hope you like the Van Saar pictures and that you have a nice Sunday evening!
