I am in the midst of heavy 40K painting but my newly arrived Dust Tactics models simply demanded patience. So I shoved the Orks and Guard aside and gave them some loving. I painted one Grenadier and one GI.
Oh my, these are a blast to paint. Compared to " GW Style" the "WW2 ~realistic~ style" is super easy and fast. I am going to enjoy this And these results were enough to splash out and use Maelstroms Easter offer to buy...uhm...everything.

Yeah I prefer the more realistic painting style. Sometimes the ridiculous blending and highlighting so prominent with GW's stuff gets on my nerves. Good stuff man, I really love the GI, very gritty and real looking.

Really nice models! Much better shading than I can achieve even with washes!
also, how much did that American model cost, and what is the size compared to Guardsmen, because I think that'd be really nice to make a guard army out of, though it's probably expensive.

Thanks for looking peeps.
The GI was one of 32 models (and 4 walkers) from the basic box. There are 15 GI's somewhat like it in the box. They are a little more slender and taller then Guardsmen. The base is also a little bigger. The basic box can be found online for around 65 US dollars if you shop around. The small infantry boxes retail for around 17-20 US dollars for five miniatures.
I used only Vallejo paints for this, using painting guides from Flames of War. I painted them rather swiftly, only highlighted the armour plates and washed the GI with GW Devlan Mud and the Grenadier with GW Badab Black. I guess I might have added a tiny bit of water to the wash/ink before using it. The bases were black and drybrushed with GW Bubonic Brown and GW Bleached Bone. I sorta lightly drybrushed the mini's with Bleached Bone after for some more highlighting

Like I said in your other thread, these are fantastic.
Interesting that you're using FoW painting guides as a reference. I'd like to do the same thing, though I can never seem to get my hand on the FoW Vallejo American Paint Set.

How do these compare scale-wise to 40k? I've been wondering if the parts for the tanks would be suitable for kitbashing with.
