Here is the scenario:
I have been building and painting Orks furiously for the last few week (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/361691.page) and so I could have some stuff ready for playing a game against my mate Dan, who popped up last week. I have built enough stuff for a small game with my Dread Mob, and I get a phonecall from Dan, asking if I have ever played Warmachine. He had seen some of the models, and having decided that it looked good, was not going to bring his Tau up, instead would like a game to try it out (I should mention here that I have played Warmachine for quite a few years and have a Khador force which is currently residing at my brothers in England). Having not played for a few years, and knowing that the rules had been re-released I jumped at the chance.

After a rummage around I managed to find a few Khador models (Kommandant Irusk, a Destroyer and a Berserker) which would be enougth for Dan to borrow. Which led me to the problem of not owning the current rules or a second set of models.
Its been a while since I have played Warmachine and in that time Privateer Press have released the Retribution of Scyrah faction, being a change from my Khador (who have warjacks built to be bruatally efficent, a bit like the Orks) and being an Elven race allowed me a chance to paint some non-Greenskins for a change. I ordered myself a small faction and the Rulebooks to get back into it.

I went for the following:
Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper (warcaster)
a Phoenix (heavy myrmidon/jack)
a Chimera (light myrmidon)
and a Mage Hunter Assassin (solo)

I have played 2 games with them so far, I beat the Khador, but then got thrashed by my brother using Cygnar.

I will be ordering some more stuff to add to this but it will have to wait until I have painted these first.

I will paint the models as they are on the boxes, not the most imaginative I will admit, but the Retribution book has some awesome guides that I want to try out (I have just ordered myself the majority of the P3 paints range to enable me to achieve this).
I have decided to base them on some elven pathway (made up of plasticard squares), with some ancient pillars (bought from Antenocitis Workshop). I have made the bases but still need to put some sand/grass in the cracks of the paving slabs, and some creeping vines or the like.

Here are some pics of the progress so far.

I like the pheonix and Chimera. I don't play this system, but I really like the models.

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

After what seemed like an agonisingly long time my paints finally turned up, so I could get a bit of work done on these lovelly models.
I managed to resist the temptation to just start a few with citadel paints, so will get started today with the p3 range.

Have had a slight issue in that some of the important colours I had ordered were out of stock, so will make do with the ones I did recieve. I thankfully recieved all bar one paint for doing the flesh (no Memoth White Highlinght, which is the final colour anyway) so I will start by doing that.

Going to paint the Mage Hunter Assassin (solo) to start off with. As I'd rather get to grips with the mixing and thinning the paint before starting on my Warcaster. So here goes...

Oh and thanks to my brother wanting some stuff and having just been paid, he offered to get me a few things as well!
I have on its way:
A Chimera (light myrmadon)
Mage Hunter Strike Team (unit)
Mage Hunter Commander (unit attachment)

and hopefully fingers crossed through ebay Eiyrss and Eiyrss alternate version (not epic-but an awesome model none the less).

Anyway back to painting.

Got a bit more done on the Mage Hunter Assassin, not too fond of how the pics are turning out, but the model itself isn't too bad.
Need a few more of the paints before I can start on the weapons, hair and the clothes, as I'm waiting on the base coats for them to arrive.
Not sure what I'm going to do in the mean time, might just have to work on my Orks instead.

Here's the progress so far, let me know what you think.

After an agonising wait for the rest of the paints to turn up, (they still haven't) I decided I could wait no longer. I am going to change the colour scheme to suit the colours I have so far.
I still will be unable to paint the metal, but I will make a start with the rest.

I have decided upon a colour scheme, and selected some guides that will (hopefully) make it look awesome. Going to paint the armour using Hammerfall Khaki guide from Merc book. Will use Snaguine guide from protectorate book for the normally grey leather bitz, and I am thinking a very dark grey for the cloaks and straps etc.
Going to give it a shot today.

Ordered some additions for the force bringing it up to a respectable (in my opinion) 50 points.
On its way are:

Dawnguard Sentinels with unit attachment
Dawnguard Invictors with unit attachment
Dawnguard Scyir
and privateer lady ayiana and master holt (from the mercs).
Also realised I'd ordered a griffon not a second chimera, which turned up yesterday so might make a start on it today as well.

Hopefully with have an update with a few pics later.

Did a spot of painting today, to try out the colour scheme. Started on Kaelyssa, a mage hunter and the griffon.
Finished the armour and the cloak, might do a bit more to the armour but will see how it looks once the rest of the model is done.
Will continue on the flesh and hair tomorrow.

Cheers for the kind words, got a bit more done on Kaelyssa today. Still got a bit more work to do on it. Going to go for orange to yellow glow for the arcane glow on the models.
A bit sceptical so far, but its only one coat of Ember Orange. Finished with the hair and leather.

Was hoping for a delivery to arrive but will have to wait till tomorrow for my Dawnguard.

My order from maelstrom turned up today, so after lots of oggling I made a start on the Dawngaurd Sentinels. I decided to start with the Officer model, who I swapped the head with Dawnguard Scyrih, as I entend to have two of these and wanted a way of telling them apart.
Before I moved onto the Dawnguard however I wanted to finish off Kaelyssa. Happy with how she's turned out although I may do a bit more work on the orange, needs another highlight I think, and I would like to add a wash into the recesses. Maybe red or yellow ink.

I will be moving them onto 30mm bases, have ordered some dockside bases from Kerr and King, but will have to wait till they turn up.

Anyway onto the pics, let me know what you think...

I don't know!

Top tip on the cloaks if you are wanting them red and shaded cover them red then wash on a duilted back into the receasses then highlight witha lighter red then a 50/50 mix of white and red then just pure white!Hope this helps.

Finished off the Dawnguard officer today, quite chuffed with how he turned out. Although still may do a bit more to the inked patterns.

Also worked out my painting plan for the army:
Kaelyssa - Done.
Dawnguard Sentinels Command - Officer done.
Dawnguard Sentinels.
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt (might sneak their way up the list, I think their some of the nicest Privateer Press models)
Mage Hunter Strike Force (including leader)
Mage Hunter Assassin - Started but might paint strip.
Griffon - Started
Dawnguard Invictors (including command)
Dawnguard Scyrih
Mage Hunter Assassin 2
Arcanist
Phoenix
Discordia
Chimera
Ravyn.

So not much to be getting on with

Looks good, I bet that Aiyanna & Holt will travel up in your list once you get harm off in the battle field. They are excellent help in getting damage on hard targets.

Cheers Metsuri, I agree with you there. I will be painting them next I think, sneak them in before I move on to the Sentinels.

Finished off the Standard Bearer, so will move on to Aiyana & Holt tomorrow.
[Thumb - Command 4.JPG]
Not too fond of the standard bearer, might do a bit more work on him once I see him on a base.

Bit of luck, in spotting a bargain (in my opinion) I purchased myself a small Circle of Orboros army from ebay.
So should hopefully recieve them by the end of the week. So might expand this blog to cover them as well.

@ Vitruvian: Cheers dude, the 'jacks are an acquired taste in my opinion. I didn't like them too much when I first saw them. But once I got some and had a good look, they are very nice. Although they are quite different to paint than Khador jacks.

Awesome, definitely include the Circle here. Circle are my army, love the Wold stuff the best, but not too fond on the living beasts. And Druids are fething sweet in game, very good, i need to get me a second unit

Yeah they're different, i think im warming to them

The force I have bought seems to be mainly Wold. Didn't get any druids but I will have to add to it.

Going to have a good read through your blog Vitruvian, for tips. If you dont mind.

Force I got is:
Baldur
Krueger
Morvannah
2 Wold Watchers
a Wold Warden
Shifting Stones unit
a Wold Wyrd
and 3 units of Wolves of Orboros.

A nice wee start in my mind, but will need a bit of investment to make it into the force I want.

Yeah, seems like a solid base, i only really play Baldur and pKrueger though. I love playing Wold Guardians though, rock hard, ike a Khador Jack but better because fury is more versatile. Also, the Wold Warden's geomancy power lets you get off lots more spells.

You have a good base of infantry and light beasts, but only 1 heavy. Druids are very useful as they can push/pull units, create cloud effects and the leader can stop enemy magic close to him.

Got a bit more painting done today. Haven't had a chance to spray Aiyana and Holt, or the Dawnguard.
So I went onto painting the Griffon. Got it finished but still need to go back and do something with the gems, once I get the rest of the p3 paints. (I'm trying to only use the p3 range, as although I have all the GW paints, I find the GW paints don't quite work with the guides I'm using.)
Quite happy how it turned out, but trying to decide whether or not to do some weathering or not. I'm sure Myrmadons are made of metal and the artwork has some scratches and dents, but somehow having damaged elven stuff seems wrong.

Might give it a try anyway see how it works out.

edit: Might have just realised, after a look on the Privateer website, that the bit on the top of the shield is a bit of flash rather than somehing thats meant to be there...off to correct that now.

Nice work on the light.

I would go for some light weathering, some dust on the legs/ lower part of the chasis and very limited chips. Iron kingdoms tend to be grittier place than most of the fantasy worlds, even the elves seem to have actual workers instead of a nation of thinkers and poets.

Cheers Metsuri, I have some of the Forge World weather powers, so I will give it a shot in the next few days.

Today, for me at least, will now be know as Privateer Press wednesday. As in the post today I recieved my Circle of Orboros army (including some extra models I didnt realise were in there, and the circle card set- so thanks to the nice ebay seller), and also the next extras for my Retribution, Rayvn, Discordia and the alternate Mage Hunter Assassin model.

Started painting a Wold Watcher, which as I type is drying, so after a bite to eat, a bit of a re-highlight and a few photos, will be uploaded.
So stay tuned.

Finished off the Woldwatcher, not so happy with the patterns, think I may come back to it and maybe give it a light drybrush to give it a bit of a glow.
Was contempating ordering some woodland style bases for the army, then realised that I live in a forrest so have access to some great basing materials like dried lichen and bark. Did a spot of experimenting on this one but will have more of a forage in the woods for other twigs and the like for the next warbeasts base.

As always comments and criticism (preferrable constructive ) is greatly appriecated. Cheers

Cheers dude, I'm not that fond of the blue myself, so I had decided that tomorrow I'm going to paint the second Woldwatcher with yellow/orange details and aim for an autumn themed army with a few fallen leaves on the bases as well.
Should have some pics tomorrow to show the difference.

I would go for the warm orange glow as the current one lacks contrast. It is a bit hard to make out the details, so stronger highlights and warm glow would help in my opinion. The stones especially would benefit from another sharp highlight along the edges.

The base looks great and fits the nature and theme of the figs spot on.

Finished work on the second Wold Watcher and a Shifting Stone, to try out the other colour scheme that I had in mind.
I prefer it to the first one, which I reckon I will paint strip and start again with. Don't think the model turned out as nicely as I'd hoped but I put this down to getting to grips with how to paint the scheme I wanted, so with any luck the repaint of the first Watcher and then the Wold Warden will turn out a lot better.
Couldn't find my scatter leaves so made some GS mushrooms instead, which I need to give a highlight and a coat of gloss varnish to.
Let me know what you think.

Cheers dude. I still think I can get it to look better though.

After a coming across an awesome photo from privateer press forums, no idea what its from.

Im thinking of making a conversion using either Megalith or a Wold Warden, and hopefully the scared little girl from the Cryx Nightmare (trying to get hold of it, let me know if you have the part and are willing to part with it).
