Hey guys,

I am brainstorming putting together a small tournament for friends. Is there a good resource for putting together your own thang? It doesn't have to be serious, just for fun. I'm thinking battlemissions that are unique or fun to play, and a point system that's not too too complicated.

Thanks!

I'd check out tournament packages for ideas. Here are some:

Good luck!

How many friends? If there is eight of you, then run three rounds where the result is only win or loss. You can run three of the more balanced battle missions scenarios if you want. Just put something in for a tie breaker.

I think there will be about 5 of us...

In that case, do a round robin tournament with 4 rounds so you each get to play each other. Sort the final standings by number of wins and then battle points.

You can make missions that have 2 goals (one killing and one capturing). Award 6 / 3 / 0 points for the primary goal and 2 / 1 / 0 for the secondary goal (w / d / l). This will give you a range of 0 - 8 points for each game, with a tie getting 4 points. Or add in a tertiary goal and then make the primary worth 18 / 9 / 0. This gives you a range of 0 - 26 and a tie of 13. Here are four scenarios that I ran in a tournament a few months ago. I used the NOVA open way of scoring of Table Quarters, Kill Points and placing objectives. You can drop the tertiary goal from the linked missions if you want to make it simpler. With only 2 goals the missions will still use KP, objectives, table quarters and Victory points twice. Anyway, the tournament I ran was 1750 points with 1 hr 45 min each round. This allowed for four rounds in 9 hours with a dinner break. If you like it, just print out those links and you should be good to go.

Don't make the missions too complex. You want the result to be decided by the better player, not the person who lucked out or happened to have the right units for the mission. A mission that forces you to place all Heavy Support choices in reserve is probably unfairly detrimental to Imperial Guard, and a mission with a single centre objective tends to descend into a cluster-cuddle.

6 of us have gotten together a few times for Tournaments. We use the following scoring system.

Full loss: -2
Minor loss: -1
True Tie: 0
Minor win: +1
Full Win: +2

We set up 3 tables and paired off randomly to start, also with random tables. After that, you pair off by winning record, reshuffling if there are repeat games.

The first time we did a tournament, we only used the 3 game types and 3 deployment options from the BRB. We rolled once for each round and had each table set up that way for that round.

The second time we used the battle missions. Each table played their own mission depending on who won the roll off at their table. Most of the missions were fine. Some REALLY screw over certain armies. Won't do that again.

Which ones were fine vs which ones were lopsided?
