I had a friend tell me Eldar we slated for late next year. I was wondering if anyone else had heard the same. I know its a bit early to be talking Eldar release, especially since there are several other codex that need an upgrade but I shelved them about a year after their most recent codex (due to my disappointment with it on several levels) and swore I wouldn't play them again until they got a new one... but I miss them so I'm keeping my ear to the ground, so to speak, for any sign that I can knock the dust off them.

So late 2012 then? Even if GW had pencilled them in for that slot, it's more than likely that it would change. I wouldn't get too excited at the moment.

All I heard was that they would be one of the first for 6th edition, but even that I think was just a general comment in passing from someone's gut and not necessarily from any concrete information.

Most of the model designs are fine IMHO, but they need new Jetbikes, Vyper, maybe a plastic Autarch/Farseer box, new Warpspiders and plastic kits for most of the Aspects.

I'm not so good with rules so won't comment.

The models are historically one of the best things about Eldar and this most recent release was some of the best yet. My problem with them was they were released at a time when I think GW was trying to "simplify" the books and so the army is super basic, lacks in-depth character, ect. I got a massive list of issues with it and if I knew how to send hate mail to Phil Kelly I would. However I'm not the type to start a rant (not on msg boards that aren't mine anyway) so I'll just sit tight and wait. I've always got my Guard in the mean time. If anyone does hear anything though lemme know!

I haven't heard anything beyond summer 2012 (6th edition 40k), so I don't know about Eldar. Enjoy the Eldar publications (IA11 and IA 12) and releases by Forge World untll then.

First I've heard of it. If I had to guess I'd say not before 2013.

That's assuming they actually update the other codices that need it a bit before them (SoB, Tau, Necrons... Maybe BT or DA for more marine love...). I kind of want a reason to reboot my Eldar as a more structured force and not have random colours all over the place.

That is the main problem I've had in painting my Eldar. Each aspect is supposed to have its own paint theme and I struggle linking them to the rest of the army.

And I'm not a Choas player but for all those who are its very unfair that there are so many Marine books and they still won't release a legion book.

If the rumours of 6th coming in summer 2012 then a new Eldar codex fits in just after that, which makes sense. However could all the forgeworld popularity lead them to an earlier release?

Given that GW has been going back and updating older books first, Tau would be the next xeno race slated for an update. Both of them are equally in need of an update though, the former because of redundant rules while the latter because of the simlified list AND relatively large amount of dated models (Eldar currently have some of the oldest non-collector models in use).

First post on DakkaDakka guys! Anyways I’d love to see a new codex for the space elves and I hope that Forgeworld stirs up some popularity for them again. I’m curious to see what type of new rules and new units go into the book.

Personally I don’t think there’s a whole lot wrong with most of the units now except that the codex doesn’t pack a whole lot of punch when sat next to some of the more recent codices. Mainly I’m excited to see the new miniature releases that come with a new codex.

I could go on and on with a wish list for rules and minis, but I’m going to keep it short. Take it easy everyone!

I've seen plenty of armies that ignored the orthodox colors for aspects and went with more craftworld-themed hues. Go with that instead if you want to.

Though I personally prefer the broader mix of colors. It's one of the things I like about the Eldar.



As for when the next Codex might be out...

I've been hearing all sorts of things, ranging from claims that it's due out just a couple of books from now to Eldar will be in the 6th edition box to Eldar won't get a new codex until midway through 6th edition. I've heard so much that it's quite clear that no one who says anything actually knows, and therefore at this time I'm ignoring all rumors that I hear.

A little off topic, but what's all this about 6th edition coming next year? Is it confirmed? (As confirmed as any GW rumor anyways...)

Back on topic - Yeah... I guess the Jedi (don't succumb to emotion) Eldar deserve an update... afterall, they still have the same jetbike they did when I bought one near the end of 2nd / beginning of 3rd.

Of course my Eldar Guardians also have lasguns, so perhaps I'm not the best person to ask if Eldar need an update...

Well Necrons are likely to be next, then probably Tau. Sisters would be the obvious choice after that, unless they're being retconned by Ward and his magical grey muhreens.

I think the chaos space marine codex is probably slightly more deserving of an update than Eldar, but they're certainly up there.

Eldar will come out 9 months before 6th edition.

That way they will be horribly out of date for any basic rules updates, and they floundered helplessly for the entire previous edition.

This is the pattern.

I doubt we'll see a new Eldar book for a quite a while yet, considering we'll probably see: Necrons, Sisters, Tau, CSM, Templars, Dark Angles and maybe a new edition of 40k before their time comes.

From what I understood, Chaos was supposed to be one of the 6th Edition codices. They're also supposed to be the new kit for learner box.

I've heard that the 6th edition box set would be SoB vs CSM, i think it was The Eternal Warriors podcast that mentioned they heard that at Adepticon. Anyway, I'd much rather wait til 6th is out to get a new codex than have one sooner that is outdated in a year or less.

I would agree with darkness eternal... One of GWs favorit things to do is throw Eladr on the back burner. The only real problem with that is due to the nature of the army they have a really hard time being effective if not kept up to pare. Eldar tactica must be sound, the army is very unforgiving. I know this because all I have to most games is wait for that one Eldar screw up and... BALL GAME!

I do hope that they get a decent codex this time around though. The last one was pretty lack luster... True to my name I could Rant all day about the many flaws of the Eldar but I won't. Mostly because they are dirty Xenos and thats what they get!

Or maybe the angels will decend and a great epiphany will befall GW's codex writers: Don't make massive overhauls for new editions that ruin some armies totally. Make little adjustments and no-one will be instantly terrible in the new edition.

This means there won't be any stand-out terrible armies, there will be more variation in the armies being used. Players will be happy because it won't be "always space marines all the time", PLUS, GW will be happy because the majority of their income won't be from a single army!

But alas, pipedream.

Still, judging by the rumours, if GW DON'T do something spectacularly silly (no jokes, ladies and gents), they'll wait until 6th to release Eldar.

Late 2012 is way too far to make any predictions when you're talking about GW.

Hell, I don't thing -GW- know what they're going to be doing in late 2012.

...Don't think they even know what they're doing late 2011...

I've often made the joke that the reson the world ends in 2012 is because GW will release a new, and good, Eldar codex!

I think that Diablo 3 will be out before the new Eldar 'dex. That's how optimistic I am at any rate. :(

It would be good to have some new plastics in the meantime. I'm thinking Jetbike/ Vyper, various Aspects and maybe even an Avatar.

The newish mini's released to coincide with the last Eldar 'dex are really quite good thou, I'm still really taken with the Dire Avenger's and the Harlequin's, even now....
