Tell me EXACTLY how they get the effect for Grey Knight armour in the Codex' pictures.
It doesnt look 'washed' to me. Looks like a darker chainmail somehow wet blended, but I'm not sure. Looking to see if I can duplicate the codex' paintjobs in my own army. I'm a fairly skilled painter but unsure how to get the Grey Knight armour right.
Last time I painted my Knights came up with this result....
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Deadshane1%27s_Grey_Knights_%2709
...while the thinned out blue wash produced an 'original' effect that some people seemed to like I was never really that happy with it. I'm about to start another attempt now and want my stuff to look JUST like what's in the codex or I'm going to pick up an airbrush and copy the job done on the front page here at dakka right now. I'll probably do whatever is quicker and easier.
So hater, how did they actually paint their Grey Knights in the book?

IMO, it's washed and GW used an Airbrush.

I think the problem youre having is that your silver has no real shading of its own and its looking kind of flat.. It might just be the lighting in your pictures so Im just guessing here, but it looks like you just painted it all chainmail silver and then hit it with the blue wash.
You need to add some value to the silver, start with a darker color such as boltgun metal and work you way up to chainmail, do you extreme highlights with a bit of mythril silver and then use your blue wash to pull it all together.
Of course its easier to achieve a smoother blend between values using an airbrush, otherwise you'll need to go at it with many layers of ultra thinned paint.
Just FYI, if youre unhappy with the way GW metallics are working for you, try using the Vallejo air flow stuff. The pigments are much smaller then normal GW pigments and will cut down on that 'glittery' look you'd normally get.

I've seen some violet tones in with the blue as well, likely from the Leviathan Purple wash thinned way, way down and applied in successive coats via airbrush.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

mithril silver/boltgun metal highlights.
thinned down black wash for shadows. when dry use different washes such as blue or purple and highlight with mithril silver(add a little boltgun metal if its to bright
