Here's the list I'm working toward so far, for my new Smurfs of Chaos army.. any thoughts? Looking for a good and I guess balanced list but fun to play. I don't really do tournaments, mostly just fun laid back games. Also, what would be worth adding for moving up to 3000 pts?

Personally not too keen on the Giant. He seems a pretty obivous target for all their heavy weapons. Possibly more squigs all round instead? Perhaps a few Mangler Squigs. Could be fun for modelling and they really hurt. Failing that, more Squig flingers sounds cool. Just a bit of focus helps give your oppoment too many targets to reliably take down.

I agree with the giant , the big guy seems out of place for other wise such a cute army of tiny gobbo / smurfs

What if we take out the giant and Lobber and add 2nd arachnarok xD

Arachnarok should be Azrael.

Also, maybe more characters. You only have 1 lord, and the bonus LD7 might be helpful in some of those other goblin units if he goes down.

I think I'd be a bit more worried about the huge spider than the giant. If you want a giant (and with Stubborn 10, they're not bad), I think he'll do fine.

I'd give the general a better Ward save. And I'd give the BSB a Ward save period. +1 Ld is good, but re-rollable tests are usually going to be better. And without any real protection, he'll go down fast.
The other gobbo boss should consider a great weapon to save some points.

The two Chukkas seem lonely, as does the one Wolf Chariot. But that's a matter of playstyle, I think.

This list is pretty much based around the models I have, except the giant and warboss so far. But, I wanted to add the giant because the smurfs need gargamel in there somewhere

Plus I figured between him and the spider it would be 2 big things for the other guy to worry about instead of just 1. I learned that lesson with my lizardmen, 1 stegadon = cannoned to death turn 1. 2 stegadons work so much better.

I'll beef up the BSB.. I didn't really want to go with great weapons because they'll strike last and probably be dead before they get to swing, thats how it usually goes for me :( but I could try it. I figured with the magic sword he'll get to at least go off his initiative.

I was thinking of having 1 orc shaman as popa smurf but I decided to keep it as all goblins for now.

Aye, I was thinking of suggesting a Black Orc as poppa smurf, since only he is manily enough to keep his demented followers in line. It also helps since the more orc and goblin units there are in the army, the more that can actually go wrong. lolz But yeah, you decided not to. Heheh

Are the spider riders spot not served better by more squigs though?

I have the spiders in there just because I have the models. I was thinking of maybe taking them as units of 5 or 6 with bows, just to run around and be annoying, try to bait or get lucky enough to kill a mage or war machine. Don't have any more squigs now and I'm mostly tapped out for now, so I may just pick up that giant and leave it at that for now. I'm also thinking of making the bows be 1 unit of 30, and then I can have those extra bow models on my big spider since I won't be using the forest goblins on it.

First off I would suggest a lord with the Folding Fortress, which you could build to look like one of their mushroom houses. Just be sure to paint it before fielding it or it will look like a long, excited, mushroom headed... Building. Awkward.

Also, having basecoated Skull Pass Night Goblins white in the past for a lighter hued unit I'd suggest you try painting one first before committing to it. I fear that with a horde of white cloaked and hooded guys led by a red cloaked and hooded guy you might appear to be fielding the Blue Klux Clan.

The giant could have black robes and be Gargamel.

One big boss could be a Night Gobbo head on a daemonette body with a bit of blonde hair. She could lead a number of snotling "baby smurf" bases. C'mon, 99 male smurfs and one female? You know she was getting more random tail than a toilet seat at Yankees Stadium.

I already started painting them.. here's the first 5 I did



For Gargamel, I was planning to just do him as a normal giant, but greenstuffing some hair on his head and see if I can find a good cat mini that I could add to his base.. and I'd paint the cloths black. Maybe I'll see about greenstuffing a full robe kinda thing but I don't think my sculpting skills will be up to par .. a little hair is no problem but making a whole robe that looks like a robe with the folds and all is gonna be tough.

I think I'm gonna change the list around, and go with 1 unit of 30 bows, that'll give me some points for more magic items or another hero. And then I'll use those extra models for the top of my arachranok spider

They're real easy to paint. I used white spray primer, and the robes just got a coat of badab black and then a skull white drybrush after that dried.

the skin is just ultramarines blue, badab black and then ice blue drybrush for the highlights

Quick & easy. I think I spent more time waiting for the wash to dry than I did actually painting them. I wanted something I could do really quick and still look good since there's gonna be so many to paint.

I did some tweaks, I think I'm gonna go with something more like this.. bought an orc shaman so I'll use that as Popa instead of a warboss. He has better LD this way too. I guess I'll just hide him in the back.. can you put an orc in a goblin unit? the base sizes aren't the same so they won't really rank up good...

HA! I did this army a couple of years ago and have been tweaking mine for eighth. List looks OK, I would see if you could squeeze in a large troll unit namely because it is a really great unit for the cost.

Yeah it's probably not the best for all opponents but I just want something good to build toward. I'm thinking I'd have the 2 big hordes as the bulk of the force, plus the bows, and heavier stuff for counter charging, and the little units of spiders to run around and be annoying, maybe try and bait units into failed charges so I can hit em on my turn, stuff like that.

One thing about your list I have learned from bitter experience is the fact that you need to have your goblins in groups of at least 35. You will never win any combats so it is pretty much a game of points denial I have yet to have my larger units wiped out completely even when they run because I can usually rally them. I run a 60 spear/40 spear/40 bows standard in all my list with hitty stuff like 2 chariots, big spider and giant to distract and maybe cause some extra wounds.

That is kinda what I was going for, but I went with the 2 units of 50 spears, I could always beef up the bows and drop one of the spider units.. or go with one bigger unit of spiders with spears and full command? I figured cheap suicide units would work better there, and they won't get extra points taking out a banner.

They remind me more of the goblins from Goblin Quest than smurfs, but it would probably take a lot of conversion work to make them smurf-like (shirtless).

Also, why not Azrael (Gargamel's cat) for the Arachnarok?

I was just gonna see if I could find a worthy cat mini that I could just put on the giant's base. I was gonna try and stick a smurf in the cage the giant carries around too

Remember that the giant comes with a squashed goblin bit.

cool I haven't opened it up yet.. I wanna get all the troops at least built first since there's so much to do. I think I decided I'm just gonna paint them in blocks of 20 or so, a whole horde of 50 all at once will take forever to finish.
