They look good, though you might try to add a bit more "brightness" to the source of the lighting.

the OSL is nice on the surrounding areas, but it doesn't look as if the object is glowing.

I think this is because there isn't a center of the light source - when you look at a light bulb, the center is the brightest. maybe having a white center will achieve this glow.

Posted the pics up on /tg/ last night and got some advice and fixed one up a bit to experiment. Highlighted the glowing part and darkened the parts that shouldn't be illuminated.

Very nice. I did something similar to my Meganobs, to represent the radioactive power sources they were using, but I did it so that from the front it would look like the glow was coming through them. It didn't really work out. Perhaps I should spring for an airbrushing setup. Do you use a compressor or canned air?

I started with regal blue and added white bit by bit. Afterwards I highlighted with ice blue and fortress grey.
