This was a little test into a undercoating technique I'd heard about (undercoating black followed by a dusting of white), along with using very thin paints to practise blending, and some different techniques for weathering and glazing after. Fairly pleased with the model.

I was expecting a Magnus the Red conversion, none the less, this model is very nicely done!

Nice work, I especially like the selection colors and the base.

How did you like the underpainting? Did it help with the painting?

Incredible base. The blue armor looks great!

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

The Dude - "Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women, man."

Lord Helmet - "I bet she gives great helmet."

It actually did.
Its probably not something I'd bother with for every model, but for a display piece or character its great. Having black in the recesses and white on the raised areas made everything that much easier, especially with blending the bright blues as I wasn't battling againts a dark undercoat as the colour got lighter. It's definately easier than a white undercoat too, as you dont get those irritating white spots appearing in crevices all over the place!

Paintwork is very nice, and I would definitely say that base qualifies as EPIC. :}

Ok, might try it then. I have been thinking about it since I read the article in NQ and somewhere in web around the same time. I tend to base coat my gaming figs with grey and display pieces with white, but if this would help with the shadows and blending it would be worth it in with the display pieces.
