So yeah, I've been looking at how much money I spent over the last few months on wargaming, and I was shocked! The large amount I used got me thinking, how much money do you dakkaites usually set aside for wargaming?

Depends really. Sometimes i set aside a larger part of my pay if i've already got enough gas money or for food . But usually about $30 (USD).

I supposedly allot myself $25 a week when there are not pressing expenses... however, I've found myself cheating on that somewhat often .

So I'd put it at $100 - $150 a month currently... in other words, too much!

I buy armies in one go - keeps me with a good handle on how much it's costing. (and stops me from impulse buying!)

How many sons? Good to hear they're being raised right (you are raising them in service to the emperor, right?)

It's very easy to lose track of things, especially when companies like Infinity keep rolling out metal crack, and in between that, you obviously have to keep your current armies up to speed and fully manned.

I reckon I spend around £100 - £120 a month, and I should only be spending £50!!

This question should be rephrased.

Q: How much money do you have left for food etc. each month after buying all the necessary miniature goodies?

Two, 9 and 5, they're both playing the wrong teams, already. *sigh*

It varies, but I'd say it averages at about £50 a month. I can go 2 months with no purchases, then blow £150 over 2 months, that sort of thing.

As for other living costs, well, rent+tax+bills is nearly £500, food is ~80-100 depending on how much I eat out, charity gets £30 or so, transport is about 80-150 depending on whether I go anywhere, and "entertainment" (mostly drinking but sometimes drinking in new and exciting locations!) can be anywhere from 80-200. Sending money home varies, but it's taken out of what's left.
(My income is around £1350 a month.)

I have no set budget, I just get what I can when I can. Some weeks its nothing, some weeks a $10 (US) bits order, sometimes $50 or more if I get lucky.

Whats my game?

Looked at how much I spent on "Wargaming" in the past two years

I generally drop around 150-200$ USD a year on the hobby. Maybe another 400-500$ on Hotels/tournament tickets. I don't buy much

My folks have had several really deep cuts to their pensions recently, and their quality of life has dropped. I try to help. I haven't been able to do nearly as much as I'd like though, something that is a source of guilt.
Newly qualified teachers in the UK don't make huge money though, so it's not easy. Especially with rent being so high in Essex.

I've never set aside money for wargaming - just pay travel costs. I hope to win enough wherever I'm going to pay for the cost of whatever models I need.

That's funny Dash, how'd you get started then? Just have to say, I call BS on that...

It's all well and good that you're supporting your hobby now with tournament winnings, but it couldn't have been that way at the start. Unless of course you inherited an army... but I would find it hard to believe you "have never set aside money for wargaming".

I set aside around $50 a month. I usually go over, but then I don't buy stuff every month so I guess it balances out in the end.

I started with an E-bay Tau army.

This thread isn't "How much did you initially shell out for your army" but rather a "How much do you set aside monthly for wargaming?" thread. I've picked up four and a half other armies on the effort of the first one and a half. Travel expenses are where its at.

dead account

I'm still trying to work out a budget so I can figure out how much to set aside.

Until then its mostly just been ridiculous amounts. Ridiculous. I could have paid off some of my credit cards by now.

Fair enough... also, I'll agree to the travel expenses (and for myself, hotel rooms and entry fees). Didn't realize the cost of some this... Also, needing to upgrade to a transport pretty soon which is going to be a hit on the wallet.

I've begun a small budget for tournament expenses separate from my "model fund"... saving it up for DakkaCon, baby!

Ahh, an Essex-Boy.... I used to live in Rainham, the borderlands with East London....at least that's what I called that area....of course, that does make Dagenham something of a no-mans-land....which I guess is what it is.

Where abouts in Essex are you? I didn't think the cost of living was so dear down there?
