The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is the world's largest fundraising event for breast cancer. It consists of a series of 5K runs and fitness walks. Their goals are to raise funds to fight against breast cancer, to raise awareness of the disease, to celebrate those who have survived breast cancer, and memorialize those who have not.

The races are five kilometer run/walks (5k) open to all, on USA Track and Field certified courses. The first race was run in Dallas, Texas in 1983, with 800 participants.[2] Today there are nearly 120 races worldwide.

Funds raised by the events help to support community outreach programs. The money supports local community breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects as well as the Komen Award and Research Grant Program
