Hi everybody,

At the start I want to apologice for my sometimes bad english. I'm from germany and my english got a little rusty over the last decade.
I'm completly new to this forum and have just started playing 40k again since i quited playing 40k in 2.edition. (When I played Eldar btw. And at this point they didn't even HAVE vehicles to rule the board)
Now some friends bought me some DarkEldar models for my birthday so I'm kind of forced to start with 40k again even if I dont realy have the money for it.

Well, to the point:

A friend always is bragging how unbeatable his Tau List is. I haven't seen the List so I cant tell you what's in it but as my first game I intend to crush this puny Tau
and enslave them like Vect and Rakarth did it before. *evilgrin*

I'm planning to use this list, but since I'm completly new to the current armies and what they can do I would like to know if it could work and what to do better and why.

I want to use the Duke so I dont get blown to pieces while trying to get to them. As far as I understood, my friend always positions himself directly at his table edge so he has as much space between him and other units as he can. By giving all my units Deepstrike I can show up in his face and darklightstrobo him

Thanks for any help in advance.

Small problem with your duke + deepstrike plan: When you arrive via deepstrike you count as moving cruising speed, so only the vehicles can fire their weapons, sme as if they had driven on the board. 13 dark lances are going to stun a few vehicles, but then all the crisis suits are going to let you have it with all their str 7 missile pods and str 6 plasma rifles. So be careful and don't just park in his face ... plan your positioning so you can take advantage of your lance shots the first turn they come in, and then use your speed to engage with the witches. Your ravagers can play it safe back field most of the game if firing lanes are clear ... the truborn have to play a little riskier, but if you stun those tanks they can put a serius hurt on battlesuit squads if they focus on them. Deepstriking does have the advantage that it would be harder to block with massed infiltrating kroot.

Truborn look good, When you get a chance and the models are out in July, the truborn would be better off in double cannon venoms(they are cheaper and add more anti infantry fire to the list, plus the extra weapons can sometimes help prevent the loss of the vehicle).

witches look ok ... if your stacking specifially to tau you don't need the hydra guantlets or any other upgrade save the hek + agon and the haywire grenades. As they are your only troops you will struggle in objective missions, but since you are looking on bringing the pain to your tau buddy this can be overlooked a little.

One peice of advise about facing the tau : once you stun a vehicle move onto the next target. Tau shooting can cripple you fast if you let them have their shots. So stunning the vehicles and then killing crisis suits will be a must to come out ahead.

3 ravagers is always fun.

Your english is fine.

My suggestion would be to switch your trueborn to venoms now. That gives you superior anti-personnel firing. Sure the blasters and dark lances will do the job but 1 S8 AP2 shot or 12 Poison 4+ shots I think you will be happy with the loss of 3 darklances for 6 splinter cannons.

You are still fielding 12 blasters and 11 darklances.

Woa, thanks a lot Mephistoles and DAaddict. I must have completly skipped the paragraph in the rules that said that embarked units may not fire when the vehicle moved at cruising speed. My ships would have decended directly in front of him just to be sitting ducks.

However, that probably means that I have to put at least the raiders with the trueborn on the table normaly and pray to get to go first.

On second thougth I dont know if it's worth using the duke then in the first place.

The ravagers can have deepstrike without the duke with retrofirejets and function just as well so the only real advantage would be that my wyches may deepstrike->disembark->run->assault with the duke.

Removed the Duke because I couldn't use him how I wanted. Instead use a Haemunculi Wrack Combo to give the Wracks FnP AND Furious charge from the beginning. That combined with the poisened weapons of the normal wracks (rerolling every failed to wound roll because of strenght≥toughnes) and the Agoniser of the Acothyst improving the punch of my CC-Unit while the +1T and FnP from the start increases their chance for survival.

Because the Wracks lack the Fleet ability I have to drop them almost directly in front of the enemy. That's why I gave the Raiders TormentGrenades to hopefully make his units flee from the table as soon as possible. Not quiet sure if I need the Shockprow but in combination with the Torment does seem like a nice thing.

The Haemunculi either stay in the raider firing the liquifiers (thus reducing the wracks to only 1 pain token / ) or getting into CC with the wracks for a second agoniser.

The ravagers still have deepstrike.

Still 31 points left.

No problem. You find out if you are going first or second before you deply, so if going first deploy on the board, do your best to keep in mind that they might seaize the initiave so deploy like they will just in case. If you are going second and they don't have lots of kroot you can go into reserves and try to take advantage of your long range to pick on a few targets at a time. Actually, every unit you have can fly right over kroot, so nevermind about them blocking the board edge.

Your list becomes much more effective if you switch the trueborn to venoms... picking off crisis suits is much easier when you can overload their normal saves with the splinter cannons and threaten them with the blasters as well. 3 dual splinter cannon venoms put out 36 hits on 3's wounds on 4's shots at 36". And blaster armed trueborn have been MVP in 2/3 games ive played(beastmaster pack with kymera and razorwings being the mvpp in the other 1/3 of games)
