Way less plastic in the box than the starter set, but there is the two codexs and the extra rules. It’s probably not as good a deal, but starter boxes usually are loss leaders so I guess it’s to be expected.
It's not a starter box!

That's what he's saying The KT core box is a better deal because it's a starter and starters are loss leaders, whereas RT is not.

Wait, You seriously just do blind purchase without checking the store? or online unboxing?

So I have a question: I know they've only been out for a few days, but, going off point costs and stats, how do people think the Rogue Traders and Gallerpox will do against other kill teams? Can they face down Deathwatch/Space Marines or Thousand Sons?

Early days, but interested in people's initial thoughts

I'm thinking that the Commander expansion will just be a book, but maybe accompanied by a splash release of some special characters who can do double duty in kill team or 40k.

The real question will be if this comes before or after black fortress IMO.

I'd rather it be just a book, or come as the option to pick up as both a book or a boxed set, as with the core manual.

Was there any solid info as to when Blackstar would drop?

The commanders are very expensive (45 pts min for RT, and 65 pts min for the gelleprox) so you will have to leave out some models to get them in.(RT team w/o commander is exactly 100 points) The rogue trader will heavily rely on the admech guy and the rotor cannon gunner combo to weed out first before the other can close in and attack/shoot or throw a grenade. So it's important for the other team to neutralize the rotor cannon gunner first. For that reason they would do well against CC team like Harlequin, All genestealer Nid, or the Gelleprox infected.

The gelleprox infected, I don't think there are something too complicated here, they have the stratagem to teleport next to you, so you either kill the big guy until next round, or try to kill the swarm of distraction critters with -1 to hit

Now that Rogue Trader introduced rules for cramped conditions, you can use the Necromunda tiles or the board from Officio Assasinorum Execution Force (the latter would be a good way to use the Imperial Temple Kill Zone from RT). You couold even use the Deathwatch: Overkill tiles, but they're very open with hardly any LOS-blocking features and lots of edges to fall off (if that's a thing in KT).

If you want to expand a "Zone Mortalis" Kill Zone, I'm sure some of the Necromunda Gang Tactics cards could be converted into Kill Team Stratagems.

If you take commanders both teams go to 150 points

I would also like more Killzones. I wouldn’t mind if they finished off the units in the core rules with their own KillTeam boxes as well. Ihavent had any desire up to this point to grab the ones that have come out, but I would like some Thousand sons and maybe some (updated) chaos warriors. I imagine at some point a new Killzone will need to be released to be used as filler for the KillTeam boxes.

I'm surprised none of the Youtube clickbait channels have commented on the sprue design of the Gellerpox models yet. It has those same protrusions and indents on it like with the Kingdom Death sprues, which allows for easy stacking of multiples. Other sprues in the set don't have these.

Loving the models though, while not push-fit or quick build, even a bit brittle here and there (ammo feed for the rotor cannon comes to mind), they're ace.

Im wondering if thats because of the number of times mentioned it to them in emails and online in forums etc. The amount of damaged stuff ive had over the last few years is high. A lot of it is things like rivets and so on, but had the stitches on the back of the screamer big dude that were squashed. Im hoping they sort their packing out as im not the only one

It's weirdly only the Nurgle sprue though, not the thicker terrain sprues, which are a real tight fit in this small and thin boxed set.

Yeah, though nowhere near as bad as the killzone boxes.I genuinely hope it becomes a thing rather than what they have going on at the moment, im getting sick of contacting them about damaged stuff. Apart from that the sculpts are amazing, I really like the fluff is really nice and the board is great. The rules are nice, as are the missions, though feel they could have added in some more hobby related stuff, maybe shown photos of alternate kill teams, maybe expanded on the idea snippets as well. Great box though

I think so far the worst product that I've gotten for Kill Team was the Deathworld Killzone. The missions are great, the board is fantastic, the tactics are flavorful... but those kits are just the worst. They'll need a LOT of greenstuff work to cover up these huge gaping seams and places where the kit just does not fit nicely together.

Other than that, every product has been great!

If they're really clickbait channels, they wouldn't comment on it. "Practical design of sprue leads to efficient storage" doesn't exactly make for a titillating video cover image text on youtube that would generate all the clicks.

No, it would be more like "5 secrets of the new Gellerpox kit!"

Getting less stuff in this box was kind of disappointing, but it's probably because it includes a bunch of all-new figures, unlike the KT starter's reuse of old figures. The new molds in the KT starter were the terrain, which is also being used in a bunch of separate kits which would help bring down the price.

That's exactly why. You were paying a premium in Rogue Trader for stuff that was completely new, and not likely to generate a lot of repeat sales even if sold separately. Kill Team featured older minis that GW has already likely recovered their investment on, and terrain that will be on sale and a steady seller for many years. Thus, it was more practical to give 'more' in the Kill Team Starter box. .

Yeah so no Elucia in normal games but that’s fair enough and would probably be bad anyway. I’m slightly concerned Grell with his rotor cannon will get focused every game and the team will be toothless but I’ll have to see

They also pay 31 pts for a model with Move 4" and no ranged ability whatsoever, and there's no ranged ability anywhere but frag grenades and a piddly pistol on one of the vermin - that costs more than a Termagant while being worse in every way, including not being able to be a specialist or gain XP. Same goes for other vermin - they're all worse gaunts with T2 that go OOA on a 3+ on injury. And the man-sized mutants are 8-point do-nothings. Meanwhile Nids have multiple varieties of elite combat monster with 6-9" move (and your pick of -1 to be hit or 5++ save with re-rolling charges) with moderate ranged support and points-efficient melee and ranged chaff options. So I doubt the Gellerpox can be played even at a casual level outside the one Kill Zone they were designed for.
