Happy Monday Dakka!
Since I'm considering taking on some local commission work, I thought it would be a good idea to invest in a good airbrush and start practicing getting tabletop quality models done with Army painting in mind. So I thought I would start with The Black Reach box set. I actually want to donate the fully painted set to my work office so me and a few friends can get some practice games in at work.

I started off with a black base coat then Model Air Blue wich gave a lovely indigo color:

Followed up with adding sky blue to the mix to hit it with some higlights. I didnt want to go too light as I know Crimson Fists are a very dark blue look: Heres a comparison shot:

Heres the whole squad highlighted, the lighting is al bit too bright though:

The Sergeant

And Finally the End result after gloss coat, lining, Matte Coat and then detailing. The matte varnish gave me a dusty look which I need to fix but for gaming I can live with it. The decals were no fun at all.

I was very pleased with the Sergeant's face. Except for a few stray hairs and that little bit of Black under his right eye( which I will consider a scar), and the Gold of the eagle which I think went on too thick. I am also toying with satin varnish instead of Matte to give them alittle more dimension and really show the color gradients from the airbrush.

I will be tackling the Dreadnaught next. I 'm thinking of using some acrylic Crackle Effect medium to try and get a weathered look. Fingers Crossed. Over all I'm pretty pleased with the results. But i definitely need more practice with the airbrush.

The airbrush work looks fine, but you still need to use edge highlighting (just a very fine line of something like shadow grey) to pop the edges out.

And, er, work on your metals - that gold is nasty. ;p

Looks great to me. My only thought is I am not sure if I like the all blue chainsword, It just does not stand out enough for me.

Still much better work than I can do!
