This is copied from my blogLosers With Big Guns which I started for no real particular reason except for fun.

I don't know remember exactly what the opponents army list was and I didn't care. Dude seemed like a douche and power gamer. I'm trying to try my hand at tournament level play and wanted to test a list I'd been working on against a Grey Knight player.

My 2000pt Army list:

HQ
CCS w/ Straken and full entourage (2x bodyguards, Astropath, ect.) - 2x Plasma Guns, Carapace Armor, Medipack
Lord Commissar

Troops
4x Penal Legion Squads

Fast
3x Vendetta squads of 2

Heavy
3x Manticores

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This took place about 3 days ago, I wanted to share this one because this had to be the fastest... funniest... and most satisfying win I have ever had. PERIOD.

This week HAS REALLY been a busy week for The Losers. This week, they went 1 - 1 against the current and most borked codex in the game to date: The Grey Knights. I'm considering this blog to be a double feature since the first game really isn't worth a whole blog post. In fact, I can give you the quick version.

GK player (after seeing my IG): Wanna play?
Me: Sure. 2000pts?
GK: Cool!
Me: Just so you know I'm testing a tournament list. In tournament fashion, would you like to see my list?
GK: No
Me: *blink* Ooookaay... It's pretty mean..
GK: Dude.. it's IG...
Me: *shrugs*

Rolls: Pitched battle/Annihilation - IG Win first turn (Me: YAY)

Me: *Deploy*
GK: bs! There's no way you have that many 'planes'.
Me: Sure I do.. I offered you my list. Your deployment BTW.
GK: *Deploys* ...and now I scout move w/ my dreadknight by teleporting..
Me: *thinking: not sure you can do that but, oh well*
GK: Ok.. Top of Turn 1 *rubs hands*

Turn 1

Movement - Top o' Turn 1

Me: *moves troops toward GK's*
GK: Why are you moving your troops TOWARDS the GK's?
Me: *shrugs* You'll see (we never did)

Shooting - Top o' Turn 1

Stormraven - Destroyed by 6 TL Lascannons
Dreadknight - Destroyed by 6 TL Lascannons
Ven. Dreadnaught? - Stunned by 6 TL Lascannons
5 Regular GK troops - killed by Manticore fire
((At this time, GK player's face is beet red))

Assault - Top o' Turn 1

- None-

Movement - Bottom o' Turn 1

GK's move into buildings and behind cover in the direction opposite of the incoming guardsman.

Shooting - Bottom o' Turn 1

GK's go pew pew.. about 10 guardsman die. All leadership saved due to fearless and Lord Commissar's Aura of Discipline

Assault - Bottom o' Turn 1

-none-

TURN 2

Movement - Top o' Turn 2

Troops continue to rush forward while the Vendetta's do the 6" shuffle.

Shooting phase - Top o' Turn 2

Dreadnought - Destroyed by 6 TL Lascannons.

GK Player (with tears in his eyes): F*CK THIS!!! *Quickly throws all this GK's into the box he brought them in... none-to-gently, I might add, and RUNS out the store*

Me: *Blink* Did I just pimp GK's?

I didn't take this game to heart as the dude quit before the game really got into full swing. I REALLY wanted to see how I'd fare against the IC's, Paladins, and psykers. Ah well.

That is awesome! I hate it when I go up against GK, extremely annoying in all regards. Glad to see there is a way to make these suckas cry!

All in all, I am impressed. People underestimate guard and pay for it on occasion. Good on you!

All I can say is nicely done... and that probably takes the cake on the biggest poor sport loser I've ever heard of.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Congratulations on the win. That said, if you're planning on playing in competitive tournaments, I think this army might not necessarily work out. What happens if you face 200 Orks or IG on foot? What happens if you go second?

Those questions had come to mind.

Fetterkey wrote:Congratulations on the win. That said, if you're planning on playing in competitive tournaments, I think this army might not necessarily work out. What happens if you face 200 Orks or IG on foot?

My anti-infantry really comes from the Manticores as I potentially have the ability to lay down up to 9 - STR10 Large blast templates on the board. It's a gamble, I know, but this is the strongest list I've been semi-consistant with. Being that local tournaments in this area are pretty much run by people who grab the latest codex and red mage the crap out of it, that partially influenced the creation of this list. This battle was to test how my army was to stand up against one of those armies. Also, on this subject, I am still tweaking this list. Should I need more anti-infantry in my Air-Cav unit, I can always create 2 squads of 3 Vendettas and 1 squad of Valkyries and still have room for my Manticores. This list is no where near finalized and my first projected 40k 'Ard Boyz tournament is still 2 months away.

What happens if you go second?

A buddy at my FLGS and I discussed some ideas. The first thing he mentioned was that Deployment doesn't happen until we find out who goes first. For example, Draico gives his heavy's outflanking, I do believe. Should I be going second, I would keep my big targets away from the side board edges to keep from surprise assaults from after an outflank. Again, I expect this list to get worked and reworked.

I appeciate the comments and criticisms, thanks.

Yay, way to punk a noob! Had he even played a game before playing you? Seems like he just lined up to get his butt reamed. Of course, 18 TL Lascannons a turn would probably make anyone weep tears of blood. Especially if you gimp him that badly on turn 1. Not to mention all the templates. Can't blame the guy for just leaving. Maybe a bit funny to see him cry. But i'm not sure how that makes it your most satisfying win ever. I'd consider a close battle between equal adversaries with a close win far more satisfying. But if you enjoy stomping newbish players in the face, then to each their own. I would look forward to reading longer battle reports if you consider writing anymore.

Well done.

I love the Commissar as HQ and 4xPenal Legion squad as troop. I can imagine how is the feeling in this army :

"Okay, wannabe soldiers... Go get yourself killed before I take care of you personally for cowardice."

And these vendettas must be pretty impressive to see during deployment time.

I would like to see more of your BR, soon (perhaps with photos ?)

Congrats dude - crazy win!

It is interesting you say he's a 'power player' I notice your list doubles/triples up on most things... isn't that the definition of a power player?

Some one who finds a niche in the codex and stacks them up.

I think his biggest lost, was a lack of transports to get into combat. Not sure, would have to of been there.

How do you go against a Deep Striking Force (its the alternative GK list?)

Honestly I dislike that IG list greatly being a Mech GK player and knowing that it plays into MEQ destroying big time.

I had a friend play basically that list against me and I called it after turn 3 when his sly marbo showed up and bombed half of one my squads away. Was not a huge fan.

But hey, whatever works eh?
You have the ability to cause some real damage, and table an opponent instead of ever having to really go after objectives if you get good rolls off the bat.

Good win, but def. stacked vs. that opponent. His bad for thinking he was too cool for school.

I think you are in a position where you just don't like GK knights and took it out on a cocky player who should have showed a little more comradreshipesipery. (I don't know how to spell the word you may have guessed.)
I share a distain for SpaceWolves similar to yours for GK, but I'd just like to agree with another post I read about your list, it is a monster of a list. I probably would have opted out even playing against it unless I was really in the mood for a game.
That being said, what kind of derker doesn't check out what his opponent is fielding especially if he's never played him?? No right getting angry when he could of easily prepared for the fight by checking out your list and then fielding accordingly or realizing there was a serious threat in it.

“Well, what do you carry the gun for if you’re just going to waste bullets?” Timer reloads his Boomer as Forling fires his Shrapper.
“I may ‘ne be a good shot Timer, but I don’t miss much from this close up with my hammer,” Forling continues to fire.
“All the enemies are good and far away so what the hell does that…” Timer looks up to see Forling giving him an angry stare. “Oh, yea, ok, um, good shooting.”

To be fair, it would be distressing to see your entire army wiped out on the first time. You must have been rolling lots of 6's.

18 TL lascannons! That could make khorne cry.

How can people cry at that? Once my devastator squad got KOed by one GUARDSMEN.

On the other hand, the one thing I dislike the most is cheaters. This necron guy tried to tell me necron warriors have four attacks because they are fearless. I was having none of it.

With the correct set up,

your army will be pretty much destroyed by first turn.

3 rifledreads to pick off your manticore

5 squad of purifiers in rhino, to pick off your vendetta.

Who ever you played doesn't seem to have a good set up (no transport)

Vendettas are cool but a exercutioner will do a much better job at killing GK than probably your manticore.

A exercutioner wiped out 8 termis 10 purifiers in 2 round of shooting, very annoying but definatly effective against 2+ 3+ armour saves.

grats on the win.

Personally tho I find your IG list very cheesy. Yes, its the point of a tournament to field a competitive list so I commend you on that, but I have never had fun playing against mech spam IG lists.

Meh. It may look intimidating, but realistically that list is tough to run. First off, in squadrons, Immobilized = Destroyed. If ANY part of the Vendetta's footprint is over terrain at the end or beginning of your move, you're taking checks. That's a 1/6 chance of getting a "destroyed" result. Given the size of the footprint, statistically you should lose one Vendetta before the game even starts due to the Scout Move Shuffle.

He shunted into you on his scout move and didn't have 1st turn? Against your list he should have reserved everything if there was crap for terrain.

What a bad.
