so this is my second WH40k army. I planned a 1000 pts. Already bought two boxes of finecast plague marines, and Im almost done with the first squad. It takes me about half a day or more to finish one marine. Tell me what you think! (More images in my gallery)

I think they look very good, though the bases look a bit "clean" for Death Guard.
As far as the Champions skin,I'd suggest a watered down purple wash to convey a more "sickly" appearance.
Nice job though.

Yeah, the bases are a bit neat and clean. I should have given them a different look. As for the champions skin, the watered down purple wash seems like a great idea! As you can see I only used ogryn flesh on it, and a bit of purple would definitely add some of the sick feel to the models. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks guys, I have a long way to go with my painting abilities, but I'm really trying hard with these, since there will be only 14 in the army.

I really like both kits. If I was expanding this army (and I will at some point) I would definitely consider buying the FW plague marines. I especially like the old school spiked helmet guys. I also love the Nurgle dreadnought, and I will probably get that too at some point (even though it wont be too useful in my army).

The price of the FW kits + the needed bits for completion are slightly more than GW's Death Guard kit as well, though I personally prefer the FW minis ( My Death Guard is Primarily made up of FW conversions and OOP Plague Marines).
As for the Dreadnought, don't write it completely off...with the proper load out and deployement it can still be useful...though there are units I'd opt to take over it.

Looks great! But I think you shorted this guy a bit of detail on his helmet:

Specifically the hose on the side and whatever that respirator box thing in the back is. But overall I think it's excellent and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work!

I have noticed that too. Maybe because their stomachs/torsos are bloated with disease, we get that impression.

Yeah, I had doubts about doing the hose, respirator in these colors, and I think Ill try something different on the other plague marine of this type that I have.

Its nice, but the material seems really fragile, so I have some fears about melta gun conversions, as Im scared some things might break off when cutting. Also the mold lines are very prominent, and the molds themselves have a couple of mistakes, so you heave to do a bit of cleanup work on them. Paint sticks just fine, and overall the models look very nice.

And thank you everyone!!!!

A nice solid tabletop quality!

I echo whoever suggested a smidge of purple, it always goes well with green.

Might be the fact that the picture is taken from above too, do you have the same impression with the actual model?

Oh, and I forgot to say that they look awesome, if I got the models in front of me, I would hesitate to touch them, looks like you could actually get contaminated :p

hehe, thank you! And yes, I do get that impression with the model. Their thighs do look a bit skinny for some reason, they are less "buff" when compared to regular space marine legs.

So I got one Plasma gunner done. This means that I have 2 more regular bolter marines to go in this unit, and then I will begin work on their rhino.

Some really good looking deathguard you have there. I just joined because I myself am starting a nurgle army, and I am looking for some ideas/inspiration.

How do you paint your models? (what colors/techniques do you use?)

Thanks!

First of all, thanks for all the kind words! I try to do my best on these plague marines, so I spend a lot of time on each.

The way I paint them is;

Base-coat pure black MSP- (because chaos black sucks), and then paint all armor knarlock green, leaving the metal bits. Then I drybrush rotting flesh on the armor, focusing on the "diseased" areas with this.. Afterward I apply devlan mud wash to all the deep areas, and around the metal parts (to give a shadow illusion). To the diseased parts I apply a mix of ogryn flesh and leviathan purple ( or just one of them-), and I drybrush rotting flesh on them again, to make the edges look really rotten. I paint the metal areas with boltgun metal, and I wash some parts with badab black (to make it look more realistic). As for backpacks I pretty much just paint them pure black (MSP colors), drybrush a generous amount of boltgun metal onto them. The bolters are just red gore, with boltgun metal edges, and the bottom part is boltgun metal washed with badab black. The blood and gore is done with first painting red gore blood spills or splatters, and then putting a bit of blood red in places to make it seem like unclotted blood. Skulls and bones are painted with bleached bone, washed with devlan mud, and highlighted accordingly with snakebite leather and skull white. Eyes on some marines are just golden yellow. I think I covered everything here except some small things (faces, plasma guns and such).

I hope this helps!
