The annual GWS has been run by Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy Magazine since 2014 if I remember correctly and has led to some interesting results of the overall wargaming landscape. The more people participate of course leads to more conclusive results. Also: there's a prize draw at the end.
@Gitsplitta: Well, there'll be some 40k (and something entirely different Fantasy-flavoured) coming up again soon too.
For now though...
Heyhey, happy Friday!
Here's some pictures of Baggot's/Scotch Hussars for the Jacobite army 1745.
Front Rank figures, and thus very pretty and neat to paint. Based on some depictions (and to break up the mono-pose goodness a bit) I sculpted some extra tartan cloaks slung around the shoulders on three of the guys. This allowed me to paint up to three different kinds of plaid onto some of these figures!
Yeh, unfortunately I won't get to base these figures. Sorry about that. :/
Hope you like them!

@Gitsplitta: Well, I kinda had to, because the dudes wore them.
@Solar_lion: Thanks very much!
@Sherrypie: Cheers, I'm sure they will be. The gentleman I painted these for already painted some Highlanders infantry with similar levels of plaid. That should be a pretty cool army. I'll also do some infantry for it as well. He gentleman seems to be a Highlanders fan; ich already did WW1 Highlanders for him and Crimean War Highlanders. All interesting experiences in themselves.
@Captain Brown: Thank you, Sir! Yeah, that's as far as I'll go on them I'm afraid, but I'm sure some day I'll see them painted. They won't travel far, and I see the chap I paint these for at shows every now and then. Well, given there will be shows again at some point.
Hello hello.
Here's the first bunch of figures from the Dark Souls board game:
For now I'll just do the basic box, but I'm pretty sure I'll do a bunch of the expansions as well. For research reasons I reinstalled Dark Souls 3, and ran around, taking screenshots of Hollow Soldiers and so on for reference. In terms of figure painting it's a really interesting endeavor, because the videogame relies very, very heavily on lighting to create the look of the enemies. Which is something that won't work that well in the actual miniatures of course. Sure, one could resort to heavy use of OSL, but that'll look weird to nonsensical. Of course it depends on how it's done, and I'm willing to see my fault if someone shows me their wonderfully looking OSL'd up collection.
Anyway, so here's the Hollow Soldiers, Elites, dudes with greataxes, silver knights with swords and bows and of course the great Wined Knight. Currently I'm working on the heroes, then I'll tackle the royal Sentinels, Ornstein&Smough (now that'll be fun, with the guys essentially being all golden), and then the rest of the bosses one by one. Titanite demon, Dancer of the Boreal Valley and the Gargoyle. The latter always makes me uneasy. I keep on expecting a second one popping up from behind any second. Last night it was especially bad and I started making panic rolls across the room.

@Argive: Cheers, me too. I started with DS3, and it was a lovely experience. After that I played DS2, Bloodborne, DS1 remaster and currently Demon's Souls Remastered with my brother (passing the controller on death. He's been with the series since Demon's Souls and got it imported, so he's quite familiar with all of the games). What a great series of games. And that Demon's Souls Remaster is also beautiful looking. We're still in the process of farming Greystone Chunks because I thought that a Crushing Great Sword would be a good idea... x(

Im gearing up to upgrading my playstation to the PS5. Primarily for demons soul (dont tell the missus...) Ive actualy managed to dodge 99.99% of gameplay footage/spoilers. litelry turn off whateevr im on/not watch the video if it has demons soul footage. I also started with DS3... 200hrs+ . Invading randos and transforming/using disguise and jumping out is the absolute best.
Completed DS remastered. Couldn't get into bloodborn though. Still have DS2 to get through.
I was thinking about getting the boardgame for the minis. Has it gone OOP now?

@Argive: Good way to approach it. Demon's Souls looks so, so pretty on the PS5. Bloodborne is a bit of a change, but it's really, really cool. For a Halloween2019 board I built I did a chapel, taking lots of inspiration from BB's hub world.
I never made it through DS2 I think. Come to think of it, maybe not even DS1. Or maybe not through one of the DLCs? I can't remember. Either way, it's a cool series.
Heyhey, here's the third article in the little series about my 10mm TYW collection:
In this installment I cover commanders, cannons, companions and general odds and sods. Since I wrote this one I thought of some more things to discuss (if you're willing to read it. ), so I'm sure there'll be more about this coming in the future.
Hope you find the article interesting! Let me know if you'd like to hear more.
Heyhey, here's the latest episode of our Star of Bravery campaign in which Capt. Camille Cruchon has to escort the general's mistress. However, the evil Austrians hatch a plan to intercept her coach! Set in 1809, Sharp Practice rules.
The shield design on the herald's (the guy in the light brown cloak) shield is freehanded, based on the class' starter shield in the videogame. Colours and designs are as in the games (as far as it makes sense on a miniature), but I used that red on each of the heroes figures, which doesn't feature in any of the enemy figures, for easier identification on the board.
Hope you like them!
Also, here's 6 more skirmisher bases for the 15mm Samnites army, made up from leftovers:
Trying to finish the Dark Souls set until the end of the month, and then I'll paint some 15mm Gauls, followed by a whole lot of yellow Eldar vehicles!

@Sherrypie: Cheers!. Takes a bit of extra work, but it's really worth it.
@Gitsplitta: Thanks. I think it's an example of a digital figure drawing person forgetting that the thing also has to work in the real world. Haven't seen a single version of this chap which doesn't have the hammer's head bend down. And I bent it up three times over the past week. Of course the "it HAS to be one-piece casts [or at least fully assembled out of the box]" and "it HAS to be the bendy material" certainly don't help either. Aye, the cloak on the Dancer of the Boreal Valley was interesting to do. This is what he looks like in the video game:
On the figure I went more blue, but tried my best to make the cloak look translucent and more ethereal than the physical figure would if the cloak was painted in a regular fashion.
To achieve that I took some pointers from this fan art here:
So yeah, I hope I get to paint some of the expansions to the game as well. But for now I'm back to painting 15mm Ancients. AND a crapton more plaid. It's Gaul time.

A proper giant spider and a group of spider-hunting heroes. All Heresy Miniatures figures and all excellent. I'll write more on these later on, and hope to get some more proper photos done then as well.
Here's what's going to keep me busy the coming weeks:
@Sherrypie: Quite so. Nah, no real freehands. I'm fully relying on sexy, timeless Eldar design, contrast and primary colours to do the job for me.
Here's the test vehicle I did:
Hope you like it. It's about 97% finished. Of course there'll be decals slapped on as well later on. Right now I have to work out how to make the rest of the vehicles, airplanes and giant undead robots to look similar.
