I was on you tube yesterday and looked at the reviews of the finecast stuff and was left slightly baffled by the reviewers' comments. If you happen to be the ones that I'm going to mention I'd like to hear yourt responses. First up was an SM Chaplain. This model had really bad cast lines, parts of the model were obscured by obvious mould damage and air bubbles. Yet the reviewer went on to say it was a good model. Another had an SM vanguard set, he listed the pros and cons and lo and behold the cons outweighed the pro points; most notable was a power sword which he was able to bend the point down the hilt. He also said he was impressed by the quality and that GW were doing the right thing.
I need to get this straight. GW is selling a product that has supposedly more 'detail' but an overall poor product quality and is charging more? For example the Chaplain model in its metal form would be near enough perfect quality with only a mould line and minor issues and yet the resin one has many faults but because it has better detail we can overlook the downside? Surely not?

There is more detail, the cost factor is a complicated one, however the constant errors isn't something they should have, though they do replace them for free.

I am unsure what people mean when they say "quality" of GW's Presin miniatures. They use the same mold as the metal miniatures (not exact same, but same original). Nothing has been resculpted; assuming no imperfections, there is no noticeable difference between a metal and a presin (Finecast) model.

This flexability is also problematic in the "quality" front because unlike metal, if a figure is bent oddly it takes work to realign the model. If a metal sword is bent, you push it until it's right. For presin, you hold it under hot water.

Finally, these reports of miscasts don't really do too well to assure "quality".

The ONLY advantage that I've seen of Presin over metal is that it's lighter and thus assembles and cuts easier. This is not a quality issue.

I have gotten a lot of the new finecast. While there is a lot of flash at times, I have yet to get a miscast, and the detail is superb

Are you joking here?

Who are you talking about, and where is the reference? Links please before we go any farther on someone elses opinion.

As to the Finecost; It's finecost, You expect GW of all people to do the right thing?

Its an overcharged Meeple, and they do not use the same moulds as metal. If they do, that is probibly why they are coming up craptastic.

"I need to get this straight. GW is selling a product that has supposedly more 'detail' but an overall poor product quality and is charging more?"

Yes. That is basicly the size of it. They even popped the cost increase in there without so much as a discussion, thought, or affirmation that they messed thier trousers on the products in question, regardless of the fact that the stuff looks scrappy from new technique/ materials.

If you got good products, please show a picture. I'd like to see one that doesn't look like a resin joke.

I want to know what a finecost " A good sculpt" looks like.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Yet another I hate finecast post - can't we just lump these into one thread?

Yup, there are numerous multi-page threads already extolling the virtues and/or lack thereof of Finecast. i would recommend checking them out if you're puzzled as to what all the hooplah is about.
