Hey, I'm starting a grey knight army and I'm not to sure what I should buy. Terminator army would be cool, but then again, I'm not to experienced with Grey knights, so, that might be a stupid idea. Any idea would be good.

You have about 5 Main Choices, with Grey Areas between each

All builds will generally start with a heavy base of at least 2 Psyrifle Dreads, if not more. Best use of 135 points in a GK army...

HQ is a mix of personal preferences and tactics like anything.
Draigo, Coteaz and Crowe are requirements for three of the builds...after that Grandmaster is a solid tactical choice and the beginning of a Deathstar unit, but expensive at ~200 points with Rad and Psychotroke 'Nades at the minimum.

Then comes the Brother Captain (GM lite), the 25 points for Grand Strategy is well worth it if you want a Terminator GK HQ.

Brotherhood Champion is eh, same as Crowe basically, for 50 less points and lacking the redeeming factor of purifier troops. Not a popular choice and for good reason.

Librarians: Can be your Swiss army knife, but better if you pick a role and gear them out towards that end.

Inquisitors...Cheap and can be geared for lots of different jobs. Most popular is grenade bearer for an assault squad. Rad+Psychotroke given to a squad for less than 100 points.

Anyway...

1. Power Armor Grey Knights: Strike Squads at the base of the army, using Purifiers in Elites to Cause damage in CC as well as the additional fire support of 2 psycannons per 5 purifiers.

2. Purifiers: Crowe+Purifiers+Psyriflemen Dreads with some spices tossed in of your own choice. I personally run mine with a dreadknight or two, but exact lists are to taste and playstyle.

3. Paladins/Terminators: Terminators...they are exactly what they've always been... 2+/5++ beastlies that do damage but cost premium. Paladins cost even more but are worth the extra 15 points per. You need to find a way to move them around the table. Stormravens, Deep Strike or Land Raider mobility. Draigo is needed for Pally army and comes with Grandmaster toys, paired with a librarian with shrouding and storm ravens you have a dangerous assault army.

4. Inquisitor Warband: Coteaz takes charge of this crazy crew giving you henchmen as troops. Death Cult Assassins and Crusaders drive the CC side of the army and Jokaero, Acolytes, Servitors drive the Ranged Support. Chimera good times.

5. Hybrids: Coteaz Henchmen+PAGK, Purifier+Henchmen, PA+Term, Pally/Purifier, etc. Lots of options once you leave the themes. Really need to think of a direction before you buy models as theres a lot of choosing to be done.

Right now, It seems that there are 3 choices for troops units that are popular right now.

1) Strike Squads: 10 dudes, 2x Cannons, Psybolt ammo, Maybe a MC hammer, Rhino

Your best basic troop. Cheap, Big squads. They can play the shoot and scoot game at 24" and then assault weakened stuff to mop up as needed.

2) Purifiers: 5 Dudec, 2x Cannons, 3x Halberds, rhino

Your MSU troop with Crowe as your HQ. They shoot well with 2x cannons, and they assault very well for a 5 man squad. Multi-assault and ruin a horde's day.

3) henchmen: lots of choices

You have so many options to chose from, they are all good. Coteaz is a good HQ. MSU shooting units, to small death-star units.

If you are playing either GK troop, you will need a way to counter their limited (24") range. That is either Psy-Rifle Dreads or Razorbacks

If you're looking for net lists, you can find a basic purifier list with just a minimal amount of searching. Psyriflemen dreads are very popular as they provide high strength fire support wtih decent ROF, they should be on your heavy support and elite slots if you arent using them for transports or nontroop purifiers.

If you're feeling frisky you can try and Grey Knight Terminator army. As everyone knows, terminators can be taken as troops in this codex. They cost twice as much as a strike squad of the same size without upgrades, and you can swap out their sword for a halberd or hammer for free, a pretty good deal if you ask me, and they are relentless. Meaning if you want to equip them with a psycannon it will always shoot 4 shots.

With terminator armies, you need transport for them as footslogging is a bad idea even with a 2+ armor save. Storm ravens, landraiders, imperial chimeras, and deep striking in with servo skulls are your choices. Obviously the deep striking option would be the cheapest money wise and you can only get chimeras with the purchase of imperial henchmen squads. Storm ravens have great synergy with librarians, which have great utility in any army not just a terminator army. The GKGM also has great synergy, as his psychic communion will allow better reserve rolls. All fairly pivotal when trying to use reserves.

Of course, your termie army might struggle in the current meta unless its very fine tuned and you are investing heavily in each model. So play smart.

Anyway, enough of my ranting. Go two ways with it, go with the current net lists or go with a nontraditional list like terminator heavy armies.
