Simple question.
A tank that Pivots in place is not considered to have moved.
Difficult Terrian states that a vehicles that moves into out of or thru must take a test or become immoblie.
Does a Tank that Pivots take said DT test?
We ruled no as it wasn't considered to have "moved".

Just pivoting on the spot doesn't count as moving... however it happens as a part of the vehicles movement. During the vehicle's movement, it entered difficult terrain (even though it doesn't count as having moved afterwards) ... which triggers a test.
Note that Dangerous Terrain tests aren't just triggered by 'movement' specifically... they're triggered by moving through the terrain, but also by 'entering' and 'leaving' the terrain. If you weren't in the terrain, and now you are, you have clearly entered it.

If you pivot and touch the terrain, sure, you have "entered" but if you were already wholy within it and pivot you didn't move thru it enter it or leave it. According to the rules you didn't "move" at all. Which is why im asking. Its a wierd situation.

You have moved through the terrain with the spin. It doesn't take up any movement distance but terrain would get in the way for a tank pivoting on the spot. Take the test and carry on.

If the vehicle is already in terrain, there is no test. Pivoting does not equal movement and so you are not moving, entering or leaving terrain. If the vehicle was not in terrain and now will be, you have to take the test as you are entering. Essentially, you cannot use the pivot to try and negate the effects of terrain but you do not have to take a test if the model's pivot move occurs entirely inside terrain.

It's not considered moving, so you didn't move through the terrain.
No test

If isn't considered moving at some points within the rules why can you not pivot if you can't move?
Take the test.

Armbarred, the rules specify that you cannot pivot if immoble. It needed to be stated as pivoting doesn't count as movement. Is there another rule I've missed?
Edit: I won't argue loggicly it would need a test but I know the rules don't always agree with logic. RAW it appears it doesn't need a test if wholy within DT.

My understanding:
You only take tests entering or leaving Difficult Terrain. If you both enter and leave DT, you still only take one test.
So: If you spin in place, you have not entered or left, so there's no test.

If there is an exceptionally long piece of terrain, you would take a test even if you only moved inside of it without entering/exiting.
We agree that if I pivot my LRBT and it touches DT, it must take a test. Why is that different than if my tank is already inside the terrain when it pivots?

I am inclined to say that pivoting within terrain is moving, even though it does not count as moving for the purposes of firing weapons, you are still physically moving through the terrain when you pivot.

True.

This is the difference, as I see it:
Pg 57: "Terrain Effects"
Roll a D6 for every vehicle that has entered, left or moved through one or more areas of dangerous terrain during its move.
Pg 57: "Vehicles and Movement"
Pivoting on the spot alone does not count as moving, so a vehicle that only pivots in the Movement phase counts as stationary
You do a check if you enter, leave or move through terrain. Pivoting alone does not count as moving. Ergo, no test.
