My List:
-Fateweaver
-Bloodthirster + Blessings
-6 Bloodcrushers with all the trimmings
-2x8 Bloodletters
-2x9 Horrors with Icon and Bolt

GAME 1

Annihilation - Pitched Battle

Opponent: Walters Chaos Space Marines (Nurgle Themed)

Typhus
6 Terminators with Nurgle
2x7 Plague Marines with 2 Plasmaguns
2x2 Obliterators

Not a good match up for Walter. He is a friend of mine and did not have an answer for me getting my preferred wave. Hellblades ignore everything that makes Plagues good. Not meching up his army made for a rough day for him. I get a win and set myself up to play some very talented players in the next few rounds...

Sorry for the blurry pics I think my camera was still drunk from the night before, they get better as the day goes on.

My Army:

His Army:

We had lots of time to walk around and check out the amazing armies. Battle 2 Coming up...

BATTLE 2

Seize Ground - 5 Obj - Spearhead

Opponent: Zen's Space Marines

-Vulkan
-10 Tacticals
-5 Scouts in a Storm
-Ironclad in a Pod
-6 Assault Terminators
-Thunderfire
-Godhammer Raider

He has a few hard counters to my list, I knew I was going to see it and I knew my army was random but I was committed to the way of the Daemon! Then I didn't get my preferred wave...

So we spread out the objectives, promise to keep each other awake (since we are both fading fast), and get down to it. Zen plays a very defensive and strategic game, I mishap my Horrors in the first wave and they end up getting placed by him in the far corner. Luckily they delay both the Ironclad and the Termies long enough to focus the battle on the central 4 objectives. The game was really great despite my bad luck, very strategic in both movement and trying to bait/outmaneuver each other.

The Scouts make it past a screeching Fateweaver and snag the back objective from the Bloodletters in their Storm. He gets me 1-0 with everything else contested! Great game with almost no casualties on either side. Thanks for the game Zen (and the dice! BRING IT!), I hope to make it up your way for some games with both you and my 5th round opponent.

Round 3 Coming up... I'm 1 Win and 1 Loss... against our very own Mannahnin! Thanks for reading.

BATTLE 3

Capture and Control - Dawn of War

Opponent: Mannahnin's Chaos Marines

-2 Lash Princes
-Greater Daemon
-5 Chosen in a Rhino
-2x10 CSM in Rhinos
-5 Lessers
-5 Havocs with Missles
-2 Oblits

We were both 1-1 and having a great time going into this game. I was getting pretty tired but I woke right up when my smiling opponent offers me a cold beer! I never play for the Draw and made my intent known so we set up to play a face punch game with the winner taking the title of THE TRUE MASTER OF EVIL! It was a wicked fun game with Lashes and Warpfire flying all over the place. It came down to me having a brainfart and attempting a multi-charge to bail out Fateweaver only to come up 1 inch short! The following reprisal from the Fallen Angels sent Fateweaver and his Daemons back to the Warp and left Mannahnin the MASTER OF EVIL! A great game in the spirit of the event with a guy who was my favorite opponent of the weekend and the eventual Best Chaos Marine Player.

Our new MASTER OF EVIL and Dakka Mod Mannahnin and myself:

As a side funny note: Even though we talked about the event in the Tournament thread, even though I said I would be wearing my jersey, and even though I had seen a picture of him we didn't realize who each other were until Turn 2... rofl. Reecius came over and said howdy to us too before he ran off with hot chicks for the rest of the weekend...

So I'm 1 Win and 2 Loses going into Day 2. After sweating an outline of my body into my bed on Friday night I head home after Game 3 to get some much needed rest. I'll have to win out in order to achieve my personal goal of 3-2. Thanks for reading, Battle 4 coming...

Thank you sir!

So going into Day 2 I knew I would have to win both games to win the Best Daemons player and have a shot at placing well overall so I changed my strategy and decided to drop Fateweaver and the Thirster together instead of the old style Fate/Crush drop with the Thirster in the other wave. I decided to do it for both games before the day started because the lack of overall mobility is what hurt me in my loses on day 1 so I figured putting two flyers together with my scary unit in reserve would make me threaten things faster.

BATTLE 4:

Annihilation - Spearhead

Opponent: Anthony's Vulkan Marines

Vulkan
7 Thunder-Nators
Raider Crusader
2 Tactial Squads
2 Razorbacks
5 Scouts
2 Attack Bikes

I win the roll off and take the corner behind the hill and Bastion to give myself a better chance of getting the charge on his deathstar while avoiding fire. I get my new and improved drop wave and stay well out of range using the Bastion (and the terrified Scouts within) as cover against long range fire. On Round 2 I get all the rest of my army and form into the wrecking ball formation, he ends up being short of his charge by about a half inch... he should have moved 12 and plowed right into me. In Round 3 I set up a multi-charge and crush his Thundernators while the Bloodthirster smashes the Bastion so his Letters can have a Scout snack. In the late game it takes my Thirster 2 full rounds to kill the Raider and Fateweaver gets rapid fired to death, but by then it's too late. At the end of the game he has only 2 Razorbacks left, that each sniped the last guy from a Horror unit and my last Crusher to get him 2 KP at the end. I win 7-4 I think.

Anthony is a local friend of mine and a great converter and painter, he won the Conversion contest that weekend and his Salamanders are amazingly converted as well as painted in a very unique metallic green scheme. It was good to get a game with him before I move next month because I only usually see him at local tournies otherwise. See you at Neoncon Anthony if not sooner!

Here are the pics I took of this game:

GAME 5 Report Coming... I'm 2 wins and 2 loses going into the final game, but when I meet my opponent I quit caring about wins and loses...

Very nice pictures, I did not realize how good-looking the GW battleboards could be if painted up in different color schemes.

From looking at the pictures, I see what everyone was talking about when they said the terrain was scares. Almost non-existent haha.

The boards and terrain all looked really great. The edge of the hill is surprisingly high and all the 40k boards were set up with the hill portion in the battlefield (no "bowls") or were city terrain and more covered. I won't say that there was 25 percent coverage but with a Bastion (treated as a building), a Skyshield Pad, and a couple pieces of area terrain it was ok. In game 4 I could have hidden behind the hill and bastion with my entire army until he committed to come after me, so it was enough terrain for my army. I think one of the fundamental elements of 40k is being able to fully utilitize the cover there is or create the cover you need, I use my Horrors as mobile cover for my other units so for the most part I was glad there was not terrain in my way.

GAME 5:

Seize Ground - Spearhead

Opponent: Chase Linbo and his Night Lords

Khorne Prince
Tzeetch Prince
2x9 Thousand Sons
2x8 Khorne Bikers
The first thing you may notice is that our match up is a mirror match... I have 2x8 Bloodletters, he has 2x8 Bikers, I have 2x9 Horrors, he has 2x9 Thousand Sons, he has a prince of Khorne and one of Tzeentch, where I have 2 Greater Daemons of the same gods. So it's Khorne/Tzeentch Mortals vs. Immortals. As we both enjoy how our themes are so similar he tells me a story that changes my entire outlook on the tournament:

Chase had his entire Night Lords army stolen from his vehicle in front of a GW store up where he is from near Seattle. Whoever did it is someone who knew what they were after, since they ignored several equally valuable things and took only his army case. Rather than throw up his hands and forget the tournament that was only a few weeks away he got busy and rebuilt and repainted the entire thing, and it looks great! So I forgot to take pictures of our battle as I was too busy thinking about what I would do if I lost one of my armies, and how dedicated Chase must be to stay on course. If you know him and/or his Night Lord army please keep an eye out for it, it's very unique in composition and the Princes are both converted from Varghulfs. If you see it on trade sites, ebay, or even in person please do something about it. A police report has been filed about it and like I told Chase, even if they are never caught the karmic nature of the universe will bring something his way soon.

So we were both 2-2 going into the game, we spread the objectives down the center line of the table, he deployed the Thousand sons and Princes and reserved the Bikers. I was able to get my waves in while staying out of range for the most part, his AP3 shooting and torrent of bolter fire from the bikers really tore at my forces but a handful of Letters and Crushers survived to smash into the Thousand sons while my Bloodthirster dismantled the Bikers. Chase played a good game and would have won it on Turn 5, but the game continued and gave my Daemons enough time to finish him off. I get the win and end up going 3-2, my closest competition for Best Daemons went 2-3 and I believe I had 2 or even maybe 3 favorite opponent votes.

So I pull down Best Daemons player and have a great weekend of games. It wasn't until after the tournament that I realized I played all MEQ armies: 3 CSM and 2 SM. All of my opponents were great guys and great artists, but most of all great sportsmen that were all there for the same reason... to have a great time. I will do whatever I can to attend another tournament like this, if you weren't there you can't appreciate the atmosphere of fun that surrounded this event unlike any other tournament I have been to. I will be going out of my way to try and make it to Memphis next year (my award came with a free invite to next years ToS), GW US ran a great show and did a great job of reminding all of us hardened tournament players that we play with miniatures first and foremost to have fun.

Thanks for reading all, sorry for no pictures of the last game... please keep your eyes peeled for Chase's Night Lords if you live up in the NW area. See you all at the next one!

Congrats on being the best daemon player there.

I take it the tournament was comped? The lists don't appear to be ultra-competitive ones.

It was not officially comped but when you need to get favorite opponent votes to do well you "self-comp" and also take a different approach to the games. By losing 2 and only winning 1 on the first day I will be the first to admit that I was not going against the top-tier on day 2, but I think everyone knew it would be GK/BA/SW/IG/Orks in the running for best overall. The ultra-competitive lists and players all went 3-0 on day 1 and got to play each other on day 2. I went into the tournament with a goal of winning more than I lost and bringing down Best Daemons, I had no expectations of playing for best overall.

Congrats on the best demon award.

Zen is a nice guy and a great player as well as a great TO (he organizes TSHFT in Seattle). He beat me on his way to getting his golden ticket so its cool to see he made it down for the invitational. Also that's pretty f-ing rediculous that Chase's army was stolen. I remember his army from ConQuest a few years ago. Tragic.

Sorry Smitty, it was the Throne of Skulls hosted by Games Workshop in Vegas. It's 1500 points, book missions, and you are scored vs. others with the same army as you as well as against the field for overall. There were various other competitions for conversions, painting, best painted army, skulltaker (most kills), and other fun stuff. The event featured amazing free food for every meal and a bar in the game hall that I swear had Stan Lee as one of the bartenders. You can attend the 2012 Throne of Skulls in Memphis by winning a major event, winning ard boyz, or buying a ticket in January. The one for 2012 is in October and it will be every year in October after that. I'm very happy to have attended the first one, I hope it's the first of many great events by GW.

Thanks man. Yeah I agree about both Zen and Chase... great guys and representatives of that part of the country. I want to make it up that way for a tourney or two for sure.
