I really want the suits for MiB and XCOM Enemy Unknown "Thin Men" type infiltrators.

I also voted for aliens with a comment stating that I understood that without a license, they can't straight up make a box of Sectoids, but they CAN look at them for grey alien inspiration...right?

I love the idea of terrified civillians, a box of them would lend so much to narrative play. Now you can have XCOM like terror attack games, hostage situations(with large amounts of hostages), civillian evacuation(could spice up any zombie skirmish game as the civillians could also turn, you could have a steady flow of civillians trying to evacuate through player 1's area of responsibility, providing player 2 with ample opportunity spread the infection), hunt down the beastie/villian before it leaves too many bodies (reanimating bodies would add another level of challenge here if we are talking infection, chest bursters or black magic here) type games rather than "battle your opponent and hold arbitary objective points"

I'm as guilty as anyone of buying miniatures for settings and games I'll never play... But who is playing cyberpunk games? Are moderns even a fraction of sci fi or fantasy games?

I think WGA would be better served just producing nice plastics of tried and true demand.

There are currently zero somewhat traditional plastic elves on the market that aren't scaled for 25mm lotr. WGA should make a nice set of elves or guys in power armor if they want to sell boxes.

The discussion around guys in suits is a good illustration of why the set is bound to fail as a jack of all trades. Some people want cyborgs, some people want cops, some people want special agents, some people want mobsters. With a five body sprue everybody would get bits to make two to three that would work for their purposes. Apparently, people don't buy boxes that are only 2/3 what they want (see Aztecs or Lizardmen).

To be fair, WGA scale is basically the same as the modern LoTR kits, so there would be no change there.

I get the feeling from their forum and online community that they aren't really too shy about less popular releases, and they bought their own plastic injection machinery (IDK if they make their own moulds or not) to help make the whole process less expansive.

They've been doing just fine not making Space Marines.

As well, there are a nice box of elves on the market from Oathmark.

I quite agree. WGA Lizardmen seem to selling well enough from what I see/hear/read. When the Grognards came out I thought they would not sell well… I was wrong. WGA seems to be doing fine filling niches others are not. And their are plenty of people playing pulp, apocalypse, cyberpunk and superhero games without even taking into account conversion potential for sci-fi.

Infinity says "hi". Also, on the RPG side Shadowrun and Cyberpunk are kinda big. Just to name a few.

40k style civilians would be an instant buy from me. If they were made grimdark, they could easily swap between 40k and AOS / WFB with medieval / scifi heads and bits.
Totally agreed on the possibility to make them look terrified / running / captured for the endless scenario options that lends.

frankly, I prefer it that way. GW's main fantasy line minis have grown too large.

I'd be most excited for polystyrene sprue sci-fi civilians. I agree with OldMate completely regarding the strategic / narrative potential they'd add to games.

But a cheaper way to do civvies would be just to sell a sprue of generic pairs of left / right sci-fi unarmed arms doing things other than holding weapons. Maybe include some alternate sci-fi heads not wearing military helmets. (Although I admit it's quite possible that a sprue of modded arms actually wouldn't sell as well as a more expensive set of full civilian figures. I don't claim to understand how this market works / what sells best.)

There are lots of sci-fi miniatures out there that would make great civilians, if only they weren't holding guns. (Wargaming seems incapable of imaging any future, dark or light, where absolutely everyone isn't packing heat or carrying melee weaponry.) Frostgrave's crew set comes to mind. Slap some unarmed arms on those and they'd really look like a sci-fi crew.

Kitbashers can always do their own no-weapon civvie adaptations without such a dedicated sprue, of course. I've been considering doing some myself, but a dedicated arms sprue sure would make it easier.

Frankly, I'm surprised that STL designers / print companies aren't already doing modding bits stuff like alternate civilian arms, mutated limbs, etc. But STLs seem to be exclusively focused on releasing complete models from what I've seen (admittedly I'm not the most informed on this subject.)

If civilians were a featured part of the game, I could imagine Maelstrom's Edge releasing a sprue of heads and unarmed arms to kitbash your own civilians, much like the way they have sprues of architectural bits to kitbash sci-fi buildings rather than selling full sci-fi building kits. Someday I'd like to do a full Karist temple setting, complete with unarmed clergy and laypeople.

Medge Broken are almost there. They have open hands and most of their weapons look like repurposed construction equipment already.

They're not perfect, and I agree a sprue of arms with tools, bags, tablets etc would be great.

But for now you can do some decent stuff with them.

I's imagine WGA will be looking very closely at how well the accessory weapon arms sprue for Deathfields sells as that's probably coming close to a best case scenario given the large alt guard demand (+stargrave etc), and an SF market that seems more open to buying bits than the fantasy one

hopefully it's selling loads and we can look forward to more

(Lizardman SF sprue would be great would be good, and as said above an SF civilian one with tablets, phones, bags, open hands and similar stuff)

Nah, they're 28mm heroic. Modern GW is just way too big. The Oathmark elves fit in fine with older GW stuff, circa WHFB 4e-early 6e. If you're looking for elves to fit in with your AoS-scale stuff, there's lots of STL creators offering sets in 32mm. You could probably print those at 105%, the way I print them at 90% to fit my collection. (I'm finding that scaling is a top feature of 3D printing minis, right up there with producing quantity to your personal needs.)

Vermonter wrote:

A few are, but they're harder to find. Most Patreon-style STL creators are in the RPG mini market, with some of the bigger groups just now starting to realize that wargamers want modularity and pose variety. Titan/Cyber Forge and Artisans Guild have started doing so, but the modularity is mostly limited to weapons hands and maybe heads. Anvil Industries is great for being modular in terms of torsos, legs, heads, arms, and weapons in the style of their resin kits - I stay subscribed to their Patreon for all the conversion bits as much as the themed sets. Reptilian Overlords made a generic sci-fi arms set with a general Imperial Guard flavor that I snapped up as soon as it was out, because the gloves match well with the Frostgrave Cultists set.

So, conversion-friendly STL kits are out there, you just have to shop around as much as you do looking for good kitbashing frames. It's worth it, though, as once you find the right bits, you can single them out and print as many as you need. I just made a set of generic fantasy bandit types using my not-Mordheim bits from the Scoundrels of the Damned Ruins kickstarter, plus a few hand swaps from Monstrous Encounter's town guard and retro orc sets. I'm also going print up some more using the Reptilian Overlords not-Mordheim/Empire mercenaries sets, probably with a few more hand swaps.

I'm poking around looking for a good, wargaming-variety set of peasants with modular arms and hands so I can make civilians that way.

As I'm using 3D printing more and more for my miniatures, what I'm surprised isn't happening more is STL conversion bits sold by the company making plastic sprues. As a thread appropriate example, if Wargames Atlantic offered arms sets for the box of Lizardmen I have, so that I could make them all one type or the other, I'd buy that far more readily than I'd order a bunch of arms sprues. I bought the Canon Fodder box with the intent of using some Anvil arms and a few Fallout weapon STL sets I've found to make Vault Dwellers - I have zero interest in the Deaths Fields conversion sprue because I have other bits I can 3D print. But if WGA offered me an STL pack of arms and heads designed to fit the Canon Fodder without rescaling, I'd honestly probably buy that, too.

The old Mongoose Publishing plastic Starship Troopers bugs were great. Would love to see n updated version of the kits... or a kit that borrows heavily from them to skirt around copyright issues.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.
