I have been wanting to do a new imperial guard army, and dont want cadians...i have been looking online and found DKoK on FW, but couldnt find anywhere selling steel legion. So i was deciding which one to choose, because i like the look of both and can adapt to playstyles pretty easily (even though both are pretty mech heavy correct?). So which should i choose, and if you say steel legion, where would i buy these, because GW doesnt have them on their website...
Thanks,
dajobe

I say Steel Legion, for two reasons: seen too many Death Korps armies, and I dislike their background. Have you tried Ebay? Or, optionally, you could convert them. Might even be able to convert them from Death Korps minis.

You can find Steel Legion on eBay, but you'll have a bear of a time finding much Death Korps. Steel Legion are slightly more affordable as far as stupidly expensive low points-cost models go. I've got a ton of them and they die like dogs but look awesome doing it.

I have a large number of Steel Legion. Ever since plastic Guard got the last price hike Steel Legion is not much more expensive, but Death Korps are twice the cost.

The disadvantage to Steel Legion is lack of poses. (aka: no meltaguns) Death Korps don't have this problem.

Catachans are not as bad of models in real life as in pictures, but becuse the internet dislikes them they can be had for really cheap. (65 for 30 dollars) Treat them like Orks, have a sense of humor when modelling them. I greenstuffed them to each have a different hat.

If you really like coats but want plastic then the Wargames Factory troopers are good. (they look like the Helgast)

Also its the Steel Legion that are mech heavy, Death Korps are infantry heavy.

Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.”

Going mech heavy is a great way to cut down on cost for expensive metal troops, but then jack that price up again because you have to buy a million chimeras. You can't win with IG, financially anyways.

Technically in "fluff" Steel Legion is a mech army and DKoK is a foot slogging army(think of SL as WW2 blitskreig, and DKoK as WW1 trench warfare). I voted DKoK because I think they are way more bad ass than Steel legion and also not as cartoonish since Steel legion havn't been updated since 3rd edition(is that right?), and I personally hate working with metal models....BUT when it comes to affordability, Steel Legion is your best bet....of course you could just learn to like Cadian or Catachans and have a much easier time building your army.

Steel Legion aren't exactly pushovers but DKoK is even more that step up as far as BA. Add to the fact that the FW models are pretty danged sexy.

IF you want DKoK I'm pretty sure Forgeworld sells them

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

DKoK has a forgeworld codex that is really interesting. Only problem is the entire army is dependent on other parts, ensuring we buy lots and lots of their models.

Modeling, I would go DKoK or do Catachans. Catachans have a massive amount of variability in their poses and such. I have 40+ and no 2 are identical.

Fluff wise, I like SL because Yarrick commands them, but that shouldn't be a surprise to anybody who has read my fluff posts here

im thinkin probably dkok just because i like the way they look, its gonna take me a LONG time to collect them though, because i am a college student and have limited income, but the time doesnt bother me because i have plenty of guys to paint and 3 fully functioning armies as of now
