Hey gents,

I think i'll be playing against Grey Knights in the near future and I was wondering, as a Guard player, how effective a sniper teams against the Dreadknight? I usually field loads of Snipers due to my army's fluff and i'd like to keep it that way. But how effective would these weapons be against the Dreadknight or the rest of the Chamber Militant?

Thanks!

Well, snipers sound good, wounding on 4+ and rending on 6s, but DKs have a great armor save (negating most wounds you make, before rending is applied) and even have a decent chance of ignoring the rending shots. To top that off, they have 4 wounds, so you have to do that more than just once. They are also LD 10, so probably will pass any pinning checks they are forced to make (can MCs be pinned?) Im betting that equal points in snipers vs dreadknight will probably not kill the dreadknight. Wound it? Sure. You would be better off spending those points on heavy weapons teams with lascannons.

Lessee, half of hits wound, 2/3 of wounds hit a 2+ save and 1/3 of wounds hits a 5+. So per hit 1/2(2/3x1/6+1/3x2/3) result in unsaved wounds. Simplifies to 1/6. So on average one out of six hits results in an unsaved wound. Assuming you're using ratlings that makes nine shots per unsaved wound on average. Whether that is acceptable or not is left to the player's discretion.

To answer the pinning question, monstrous creatures can never go to ground, voluntarily or otherwise.
