Well for a while now ive been thinking about what EXACTLY a titan close combat weapon is limited to being. Ive read in storm of iron about chainswords, powerblades, claws, and other nasty epiclly awesome stuff, but im wondering if there is more? Personally an Electric guitar shredding Titan would be Awesome, and that the guitar is admanatium plated with a built in amp and sharpened - hardened axe like edge..... but thats just me

They also have a melta weapon that is basically used to disintegrate another, downed Titan (since a melta's range is abysmal). Some carry swords or flails, as well, but otherwise... yeah. Pretty much the same stuff, just built to titan-scale.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I find it funny that they even need close combat weapons. No doubt they look awesome, but it's so big and puts out so much firepower by the time it gets over to what's left he could just step on it. Maybe against another titan, but how often would they get close to each other

Fairly often i would guess...
A lot of titan fighting is manouvering so if you can come up next to your enemy and bash their mechanical brains out then you might be shiny...

Never actually used one or seen many apoc games. I could just imagine standing under two fighting titans might write something like that

I was talking fluff-wise...
TT-wise it's all about firepower and trying not to get overrun by tiny little anti-tank squads.

That's weird I would think it would be all fire power in fluff too. I haven't read much on them either. At first I thought the only ones that had them was the Imperium, then I saw the Ork one and the phantom titan. When I read about phantom titans It blew Imperial ones away, I mean the same size more firepower and IT"S INVISIBLE

Yeah being invisible would help...
I think it also depend on the terrain however.
In a large open plain firepower is gonna help more than manoeuvrability whereas in a hive city manoeuvrability is essential.
Still when it gets down to it giant robots with guns for arms weilding 20 meter long chainswords are seriously cool.

Read Titanicus, they have fusion maces and electro flails as well. A warhound even has a giant lance.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Titanicus was fun, but i dont recall a giant lance... though to be fair i guess you could say that Close Combat weapons are very usefull if ammo is short behind enemy lines and you know your up against other engines.

A scythe wouldnt be out of place ^_^

All of that stuff comes from the Epic game system. Back in the 2nd edition Epic Titan Legions they had these for close combat weapons:

Warlord titans could have:

Battle Claw
Chain Fist
Power fist
Power Ram
Power Saw
Titan Close Combat Head
Wrecker(as in Wrecker ball)

Reaver titans could have any of those as well

Warhound titans could not have close combat weapons.

Chaos titans could have:

Chaos Energy Whip
Chaos Titan Tail
Doomfist
Hellblade
titan Close Combat Head

Ork Mega Gargant had:
Krusher Arm

Ork Great and Slasha Gargants had:
Ripper Fist
Snapper (like a giant snapping mouth but mounted in it's crotch...leave it to orks...)

Mekboy Gargants had:
Buzz Saw Arm
Krusher Arm

Eldar Titans had:
Power Fist

"Khorne is a noble warrior who respects strength and bravery, who takes no joy in destroying the weak, and considers the helpless unworthy of his wrath. It is said that fate will spare any brave warrior who calls upon Khorne's name and pledges his soul to the blood god. It is also said that Khorne's daemons will hunt down and destroy any warrior who betrays his honour by killing a helpless innocent or murdering in cold blood..."

I've got an Ork Stompa with a chainsword made of chainswords. That is, each tooth of the TCCW chainsword is, in itself, a chainsword.

Go nuts. The more awesome, the better. And a Titan Axe would be epic, especially if you mounted some speakers and an iPod dock in there for some thrash.

In Epic, Phantoms are only hard to see when they're moving.

In the right environments (i.e. places with REALLY tall terrain), titans can maneuver to make it more difficult for the enemy to fire at them. In those sorts of circumstances, you might be able to get in close. And if you do, then a melee weapon will usually hurt your opponent more than shooting will. Melee weapons don't care about void shields.

It happens surprisingly often. In Storm of Iron, a Warlord-class titan is forced to engage in close combat with a Chaos Imperator Titan, as the latter's shield strength is too great for the Warlord's weapon systems to overcome. Ork Gargants also seem to regularly throw themselves into combat - as you'd expect - so Imperial Titans have combat weapons in order to deal with that.

My thoughts exactly, titan guitar would be awesome ^_^ but the idea of a chainsword with chainswords is still cool
The tactical uses of titan close combat weapons is a solid one vs gargants, Chaos imperators. I mean vs smaller targets their useless... but vs a larger target its totally usefull

20 years ago, in WD 133, there was an article on new Warlod Titan weapons and equipment, which listed power rams, battle claws, energy whips, wreckers (a big ball) power saws and tails (for Chaos Titans only).

It also had, in place of an arm, the Corvus assault pod, for delivering a detachment of troops to a wall or building.

You're forgetting the coolest one for Imperial Titans!

I think it was called the Trident or the Harpoon - but if it hit, it let you take control of the enemy Titan!

Yeah, I didn't list that one because it is actually a ranged weapon, not a close combat weapon, but it is very cool!

Trident would be a cool thing to see on a Titan, possibly on a titan modeled on Greek mythology, like a giant Poseidon.

That would be an awesome series of conversions/scratchbuilds. The Zeus would be an Imperator, as would be Posiedon and Hades, then you'd have the Athena, Ares, Apollo, etc...

Could look awesome. Hephaestus would have a gimpy leg, of course.

They also had a weapon in Titan Legions that was called a trident. It was fired out of it's casing like a gun. Then it would go through all void shields and power fields, attach it's self to an opposing titan and drag that titan closer to the titan that fired the trident. Then a close combat would ensue.

Epic was the first GW game I got into. It was all fun and games until the Emperator Titan came out. Nothing like rolling 60 attack dice in the shooting phase from just one Titan.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentations of the Eldar!

Get ready for ridiculous idea: Angry marine titan CCW: a chainsaw-style titan CCW, but with dreadnought ccw chainfists instead of teeth, and then the DCCW have power weapons instead of teeth!

Apparently the Imperium is ill-equipped for a siege. Therefore I have proposed the development of siege guns, siege tanks, siege rockets, siege armor, siege planes, siege ships, siege wagons, siege bikes, siege boots, siege dogs, siege cats(for the siege rodents), siege eating utensils, siege horses, siege rations, and siege babies. Oh, and siege-spouses, especially of the female variant.
