Hi all, i recently bought a box of IG troops to start my army.

Anyway i have just started painting the face of my sgt, and was wondering if someone could suggest some tips to better it, as im not totally impressed by my effort but my knowledge of painting is limited to this attempt .

Here it is

What can i do to make it better?

Theres something about raiding planets and then bathing in the slaves misery and torment that really gets me. I love DE, and can now play in 2000point matches with the addition of my latest stuff! Kabal of the Purple Blaze.

I also have 2 squads of IG Shock troopers and a Platoon Comand squad as a start to my IG army For Cadia Check out my blog - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/380874.page#3047386

What i do is start like this (don't worry, faces can be tricky, and these look great already!)

Start with Elf Flesh
Glaze with Chestnut Ink / Flesh Wash (If you don't have these, find a dark GW wash, I don't much care for them tbh)
Elf Flesh again over the raised areas, slowly adding white to the mix and making it lighter over areas such as the brow, cheekbones, nose and forhead.
The wash should stay in the cracks, making a suitable illusion of depth.
Then, paint the eye sockets white with a little brush, or a cocktail stick if you're not that accurate! then simply little dots of black within them and you're done! I'll try and get a picture up!

I think its Not bad as is. Do what sphynex said if you want to do alittle more work, but From experience Trying to paint 50 guardsmen faces very well can take forever.

The only thing I would do if I were you is paint the eyes black on white instead of blue on white.

But I am a Lazy boring Imperial Guard Troop spam Commander, What would I know.

The thing with all the washes etc is that i dont have them , i did this using mantic paints from their dwarf set, specifically using brown, white and flesh. So my options in this area are quite limited. thanks for the ideas though (as soon as i can get hold of the paints i will try it out)
