So this blog has been through a fair few iterations since i started it way back when. Yea I disappear, forget to post or life kicks ya square right and proper.

The first 27 pages are all sorts of 40k models and trying to find my niche and groove. And trying my hand at other hobby related things such as building terrain and necromunda and the like.

In the way back time machine (2008 matter of fact) I started with ye old space marines thinking that my mighty chapter was mighty....however their hearts grew dark and well they fell by the wayside and in to the loving embrace of chaos. I played chaos solid for about five years purging rebuilding repurging and rebuilding. I have had several chaos marine armies it is my first love of 40k. I have done Word Bearers and I have done Iron Warriors, I also have done two home brew warbands the Deliverer's of the Pure Word and Disciples of Rot. Then one day... I sold all my Chaos stuff (for reasons I will not discuss on the forum ask me via pm if you wanna know) Then came the purge where i sold most everything but two armies... my Vostroyan Imperial Guard and my Tyranids. I recently fell back to chaos...it will be slow going at first as I am going to try new techniques and push my self. It may go Quite from time to time but if this one is quite you can always check out my other spaces to see if I am there. Do not fret or be alarmed if I do disappear and magically do a photo dump on you it has been known to happen.

Well enjoy my musings and my painting of stuff.

So a bit of Fluff for the day:

Hollis Secundus, an ice waste land with short days and longer nights, the majority of the emperor's faithful live in the hives. The the main export in tithes of this planet are refined metals to make the war machines of the imperium (sp), one of the most notable facts about this world is that is that it is a recruiting planet for the Knights of Mccragge. With ruthless underhive gang warfare constant it breeds some of the worst killers in the system.

I know its not a lot but that's what I have so far please feel free to help add to it I am not that good at writing fluff imo but i would like to hear what people have to say.

Here is a little story about one of the pictured marines Brother Sergeant Kerva:

Mortars screamed over head into Brother Sergeants Kerva's position. The renegades inaccuracy was appearent seeing that the forces of the PDF were turned to ruinious powers within the past six months, it was hell, the position was littered witht he dead, this had been the longest eight weeks in the deployment. But the emperor's justice needed to be done. Of the ten men that were in squad kerva only four remained. Brother Jorin's plasma gun was hit by a lucky shot and enveloped him in plasma backfire and melted into a puddle of goo. A sniper caught Brother Skaren unawares through his eye lens and out the back of his skull. Brothers Huskar and Fer were killed in an ambush about three weeks prior to the campaign starting. It had been hell, Captain (still need a name) had ordered the remain members of squad Kerva to assault the enemy position after the whirlwind barrage had struck. Autogun shells ripped through the sandbag emplacements one stray shot plinked off of Sergeant Kerva's helmet. Kerva growled in frustration and flexed his mighty power fist that crackled with blue energy. Then as if on cue Rockets screamed over head as the whirlwind fired its deadly payload. The screams of the traitors could be heard, in an instant Kerva voxed to his brothers it is time for them to strike.

well there is my little story i hope you guys like it I had fun writing itsorry if its short I will post in a couple of days the rest of this story should have pictures of my Black Templars up also so look for that, thanks for lurking. C&C are always welcomed.

Hello all that lurk away, so i been doing some research and thanks to a person i admire on dakkadakka i thought i would try to make a badab war ear army mind you this would be after the war and after there suicide campaign. any way i'd appreciate all your thoughts on where to begin and what codex should i use and all that noise. the the codecies i have currently in my possession are the regular SM and the BT for the imperial side of things and the all mighty chaos marine codex. I really don't want to do another CSM army i'd actually like to try to make the excecutioners a imperial chapter not a renegade warband. well i think first off i should aim for about 500 points and go from there.
again anythoughts or ideas would be helpful. oh if you know where i can read more fluff about them other than IA 9 and ten that would also be helpful.

thanks in advanced

I'm pretty sure you posted this in the wrong forum. This is a plog, right? It goes in the project log forum. Also if you want to sell something put it up in the swap shop.

As for campaigns, I think 500 might be too small for a main force. Maybe shoot at least for 1000.

500 is indeed a good starting point. Put some pictures up of your orcs, to show more people what you're selling. Also putting it in a separate selling forum would be helpful as more people would see it there.

Check out my Project (B)log! I would love any suggestion or comments you may have.

Ill post up a picture of the captain and of the orks within the next couple of days any sugesstions on how to equip the tatical squad i was thinking ml and melta gun, or metla and flamer what do yall think?

Couple of thoughts AH... I know you're trying to pull together an all-inclusive blog to cover all your interests... but when it's as diverse as this right from the git-go it's hard to get people invested in it.

For the time being, and since you don't have a lot of cash to buy figures... you might try to make the most out of the one's you have. I'd consider focusing this P&M blog where it will do the most good. Post pics of your captain & other models and ask for comments and advice. Make sure you title it so people know what you're after. I know you do this in your OP, but the title of your blog is very all-encompassing and might well put people off. It also helps if you can ask specific questions... so rather than just saying "C&C welcome"... say... "I'd like to learn wet blending techniques." or "I'd like to make a nicer looking power sword, can anyone point me in the right direction?"

Those types of inquiries always get me good responses because it's much easier for folks to focus on and respond to a direct question rather than an ambiguous idea.

It's easy for people to comment and give you advice on painting because we all do it. Getting intelligent commentary on fluff or fiction is much harder and requires a much larger intellectual investment from your readers. Frankly where there a number of fluff threads that I follow, I only comment on one or two because they take so much more effort to track and critique than a painted model. Thus, I'd leave the fluff & fiction aside until you have a cadre of readers who are interested enough in your project to take the time necessary to consider your ideas and writing.

I think a basic 500 point army is a good place to start. You need 1 HQ and 2 troops to be legal. With marines you won't get much else for that price. Depending on what you have for orks, you might be able to trade them for some basic marines & you'll be set!

Make sure you read the posting rules in the Swap Shop forum before you put up your orks. Pictures always help there too.

Hope that helps,
Gits

Thanks gits,

actually what you just said made the most sense, this is my first blog of this sort and i wanted to do it right and well, i dunno if am or not yea i am aimin for the moon with a blog like yours, my lil story was something that been brewing in my head and it wouldnt shut up. i do need to learn better techniques, i just dont know what they are called. like the water blending i never knew what that was called and i would like to learn it. its just frustrating thats all. thanks for the advice. if you could point me in the right directions of some tuts that would be great. well i think thats my problem i like to jump to the big picture first and then work my way to the fine details, jumping head first per say. thanks for listen to me rant. its kinda lonly over here so pop in once and a while.
again thanks for the advice.

Gits is the master of plogs, so whatever he suggests is generally great advice (and something I should follow too. That and more actual updates!).

I don't see any problems with adding bits of fluff in amongst regular posts as it helps the readers understand where you're going with the project to be able to offer advice and guidance.

Having said that, it's always a great idea to have lots of clear pictures of what you're painting (see some of the photography tutorials so that we can all gawp in wonder at the latest updates. This becomes especially helpful when you're asking for advice on painting techniques.

Speaking of which, there are some painting tutorials in the Articles section here too.

This is good advice.

For starters, try to take a few more pictures of your sternguard sergeant, as he is completely shadowed and it's really hard to make out what's going on. Conversely, the picture of your trooper is pretty good.

Also, finding a buddy to split an AOBR box is a good way to get a pretty decent marine force quickly.

There's a start. Some WIP shots of the Marines would be good too as well as some more shots of what you already have for us to oggle over.

And yeah, two split AoBR boxes can net you a respectable amount, especially if you can get hold of odds and ends for bits for variety!

Now only a CSM player.

Hey,
At first I should say I support 100% Gitsplitta in his advice...

As for the OSL, I think you got the location part (that is, how far should you paint the lighting effects), but there's something off with the painting...

I'm not so sure but I think you had too much paint in your mix, and you tried to get some colour appear too quickly. The light colour should appear after 2-3 layers of really thinned-down paint.
Also, I think you put too much water+paint on your brush. As it looks here, the watery paint pooled & dried leaving some "stains" on the model. You should put less mix on your brush, and try to control the strokes in "pulling" the paint towards the light source. That way, it should naturally enhance the colour closer to the source.

Am I being understandable, or not?

On second thought, I might add that trying OSL for the first time on a power fist , which is a large part of a mini, is a bit bold, and something I still haven't tried...

You should first try as I did, with lenses, scopes, flashlights, buttons, etc... And then move on to larger objects!

Good luck!

PS : the colour & technique you're using could work perfectly as verdigris, by the way...

Just an additional trick!

thanks ygg,

you are perfectly understandable. now whats verdigris?
well im going to put the fist in some mean green and let it soak it didnt come out as well as i hoped...so i guess its ok for my first outing with it. Oh i do want your opinion on the rest of the model, there are parts of it that im not too happy with but i think i can rescue it.

Verdigris is what the turquoise colored corrosion that happens on copper alloys such as bronze. It's a really neat way of making something look ancient. I've used a Thraaka green wash on my son's necrons, but a Hawk Turquoise wash actually makes a more authentic looking verdigris. Just google it in google images and you'll see plenty of examples.

i tired some of that verdigris on his combi weapon and i think it came out ok lookin i personally think i put too much paint on it though. but live and learn i guess i will have to redo his arms to make em look better.
is there a tut on how to mix colors i think thats the next painting hurdle i need to jump.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
so i have came into a small chunk of change (120 or so) and i was wonder what should i do with it, get more troops transports elites...i already have a dread, and some sternguard as elites i have two 5 man squad of troops and a captain...wich rounds me out to 630 points roughly, so with this being said what should i go get for this lil army of mine. as fluff wise i love drop pod assualts, i do the rhino rush with my csm. and my templars (need a lot of drop pods) but i do not know what i shoud do for these guys maybe a mix of pods and razorbacks/rhinos? or should i go on and make a squads of devs (i have enough for two PC and TWO LCS and a MM). so i dunno right now would like your input on this purchase.

Oh i also recently got some testors dull coat and was wondering how far the can should be away from the actual model as not to have it glob up. thanks for any input.

So the tournament i went to yesterday was a pregame of an 'ard boy tourny they are holding next month and i learned something im not definatly an 'ard boy list maker. had a good list but the dice were not on my side long story short i think i came in last.

ok enough of my semi poor playing skills and on to what i have done with the dreadnought since i spoke with yall last well i started working on his arms tryin to clean up the lines i highlighted on the body and washed the silver bits on it next is prolly gonna be some highlights of hawk turquoise on the silvery bits. pics will be up some time this week so hope i can keep you in anticipation.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So i just figured what my 500 point list consists of and thats what im going to work on. i am still going to finish the dreadnought but i won't use em until i get the next phase started.

So at 500 Points my list consits of the Following:

Captain - 160
Artificer Armour, Power Fist, Combimelta, Digital Weapons

Scout Squad x5 - 120
x3 Sniper Rifles, Missile Launcher, Camocloaks, Sergeant with Sniper Rifle, Power Sword, Melta Bombs

Tactical Squad x10 - 210
Plasma Cannon, Plasma Gun, Sergeant with Power Fist and Combiplasma

This totals out to be 500 points good stuff.

now the next thing to figure out is how to do the scouts...not sure how to accomplish this but I will figure this out, I'll do two sample scouts to see what looks better any rate hope yall can help me out. I'll have pics up some time soon of the progress made.

Why the bolter on the scout sergeant? He'd be better off with a sniper rifle so he can add his fire in with the rest.
