I have decided to restart my Mechanicus project and do a proper army for once. The aim is to play in tournaments so I’d like opinions on the list in terms of making it fit the Mechanicus fluff, not being too mainstream and if my counts as details are acceptable. All effort will be made to convert and paint the army to the highest level with a lot being sculpted and scratch built. Emphasis on the theme and background rather than it being a winning army.

Here's the list:

HQ

Inquisitor Coteaz - 100pts

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor - 61pts
- Rad and Psychotroke Grenades
- Servo Skull x2

Elites

Techmarine - 110pts
- Conversion Beamer

Troops

Grey Knight Terminator Squad - 215pts
- 4 Terminators and 1 Terminator Justicar
- Psilencer

Grey Knight Terminator Squad - 215pts
- 4 Terminators and 1 Terminator Justicar
- Psilencer

Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband - 225pts
- 10 Warrior Acolytes
- Hot-shot Lasgun x7
- Meltagun x2
- Carapace Armour x10
- Jokaero

- Chimera

Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband - 139pts
- 5 Servitors
- Multi-melta x3
- 3 Warriors
- Flamer
- Bolter x2
- Mystic

- Chimera

Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband - 90
4 Death Cult Assassins
2 Crusaders

Fast Attack

Stormraven Gunship - 205pts
- Twin-linked Lascannons
- Twin-linked Multi-meltas

Heavy Support

Dreadknight - 185pts
- Heavy Incinerator
- Nemesis Greatsword

Dreadknight - 205pts
- Gatling Psilencer
- Heavy Psycannon

Total 1750 points

(to make 1800 i would just add an Orbital Strike Relay to the Techmarine)

Coteaz teams with Henchmen Warband 02 to provide a firebase. The Ordo Xenos Inquisitor teams with the death cult Assassins (attack servitors) and can come in on the Stormraven.

My counts as details are as follows:

All psychic powers and tests are represented by data functions, special wetware, archaotech etc.

Any anti-daemon rules aren’t used.

Coteaz = Magos Explorator
- Psyber eagle = attack servo skulls
- Hammerhand = special close combat wetware
- I’ve been expecting you’ = advanced augers
- Daemon hammer = Thunder hammer

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor = Tech Priest

Grey Knight Terminators = Praetorian Maniple
- Storm Bolter = Las Disrupter
- Nemesis Force Sword = Power Axe/Blades with built-in disrupter fields
- Psilencer = Disrupter Cannon

Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband 01 = Skitarii Maniple
- Jokaero = Tech Priest Artisan

Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband 02 =
- Mystic = Comms Servitor
- Psychic Beacon = Radar and Homing Beacon
- Warriors = Protectors

Dreadknight = Myrmidon assault engine
- Gatling Psilencer = Heavy disrupter Cannon
- Heavy Psycannon = Shockwave cannon

Stormraven Gunship = Mechanicus Armoured Lander
- Fortitude = Mechanicus Auto-repair systems
- Psychic Pilot = Advanced Logis Engines

+1 for a fluff bulit army i love the idea of mechanicus using gk rules

but if i had to be a prick this list isnt going to survive long

terminators are ok but to keep some fluff i would make them strike squads using the iron hands kit or replace them with more warbands

ur first warband is decked to the max and hot shots get it done so my recommendation is ether switch to bolters or keep the hotshots and take out the jokero

also a side note carapace is cool (yippy 4+) but it doesnt block low aps

if you could i would switch the mm on the servitors to plasma cannons sure they cost points but are worth it

im trying not to destroy ur fluff as much as possible but mystic isnt accomplishing much unless your ds the terminators and even then that chimera only has av 12 which isnt to scary

that last warband needs a ride

i like dreadknights in a mechacous fluff but they are walking targets and i can see land raiders being more useful and not being to far off

to add i would add shooty squads to the mix like a servitors and 2 jokeros

Reconstruction WIP

I know it's not going to last long. Thanks for your comments.

I agree on some of your points. I might take out a squad of terminators and get more skitarii (henchmen with hot shots)

I incleded the Jokaero as her seems so fun and unpredictable, not to mention his heavy weapon ability. I think i might take off the carapace armour and get some more death cult assassins.

MM on the servitors is for anti tank but i may change to plasma. I'll try a few games and see. They'll be magnetised so no issue there.

The dreadknights probably will die but i've got some cool conversions in mind. To be honest, I'm hoping to win best painted/army awards than to win games with this army.

Hi Earl.

I love the theme and the mix beween GK and Mechanicus.

I love some of your conversions on www.ferrus-workshops.com

By the way, even if me too I'm more fashinated by the hobby than the game itself, I think you'll can certainly build up a list that will compliment the fluff still being quitely competitive.

Trying to re-touch your list without completely re-building it I will make some of this changes:

HQ - Coteaz. 100
EL - Techmarine - Rad Grenades - 2x Servo Skulls. 106
EL - Techmarine - Conversion Beamer. 110
EL - Vindicare Assassin. 145
TR - 3x Inq. Servitors w/MM - 8x Psykers - Inq. Chimera. 165 [ <-- Coteaz unit ]
TR - 6x Deathcult Assassins - 4x Crusaders - Mystic. 160 [ <-- RAD Techmarine unit ]
TR - 3x Acolytes - 3x Meltaguns - TL HB Razorback w/ Psybolt Ammo. 92
TR - 3x Acolytes - 2x Meltaguns - Meltabombs - TL HB Razorback w/ Psybolt Ammo. 87
TR - 5x Strikers - 1x Psycannon - TL HB Razorback w/Psybolt Ammo. 160
TR - 5x Strikers - 1x Psycannon - TL HB Razorback w/Psybolt Ammo. 160
FA - Stormraven Gunship - TL MM - TL Plasmacannon. 205 [ <-- will transport the DCA+Crusaders+Mystic unit joined by the RAD Techmarine ]
HV - Nemesis Dreadknight - Personal Teleporter - Hammer - Psycannon. 255
HV - Nemesis Dreadknight - Personal Teleporter - Hammer - Psycannon. 255
Tot. 2000 pts

The RAD Techmarine will amplify the effectiveness of the CC henchmen unit in the Stormraven, both for RAD grenades and Hammerhand casts.

The soloing Conversion Beamer Techmarine doesn't like me very much but i see the "modelling" importance of the model so here it is.

Both of Techmarines will boost up covers on 2 terrains, helping the Conversion Beamer one and the Vindicare.

The Chimera team make perfect compliment to the abilities of Coteaz that, helped by the Servitors and the Psykers will really be able to crush down a lot of things, in "I've been expecting you" out-of-sequence actions and in regular turns too, even if the Psykers are quitely umpredictable..
I don't like Plasmacannons on Servitors due to their BS3 so free MM on them.

The 2 little Acolytes units on Razorbacks wouldn't be liked by everyone in here but can bring back fastly their points, just go ahead protecting the sides of the Chimera and disembark if in range of adversary's high AV (Land Raiders, Leman Russ, Battlewagons etc etc).

2 little units of Strikers, not Terminators, because they bring 2 more vehicles (we're still talking about Mechanicus no?) and, if you'll like it, will be able to deep strike too.

2 Dreadknights almost full optional because will be the centerpieces of the army list and because with all these upgrades (that yeah.. makes them quitely pricy..) they will be really playable. I also imagine some really interesting modelling customisation regarding the personal teleporters.

By the way a list that really give you nice possibilities about the Hobby / Modelling side still givin' you possibilities of having some good game.

It's quitely a shame not having Terminators and/or Dreadnoughts in the army but would be really hard integrating some of them in the list without tryin' to play with a "salade of a little bit of anything".

Something that could lokks very good on the table but that effectively wouldn't stay a lot of time on that table..

Thanks for that. You've given me some really good ideas. I'm taking quite a lot of it on.

Using a techmarine with the CC henchmen is great.

I like the idea of the 2 acolyte units with razorbacks but it'll be a while until I can get the transports made as I want them to be custom.

I really like the strike squads instead of terminators. I fits the counts as idea of praetorians really well. Praetorians are tough but i think not quite as tough as terminators.

I'll get a revised list and fluff details done incorporating some of your ideas.

My revised list. It probably isn't as lean and effective as some would take, and that's pretty much the point. I'm taking things I like the look of and will enjoy modelling.

Thanks for the ideas Toban. I don't like Razorbacks so am taking Chimeras. I don't want to take too many vehicles too as it is an explorator force. I think if I went to 2000 points i'd just give the two dreadknights personal teleporters.

HQ - Inquisitor Coteaz - 100pts

Elites - Techmarine (Conversion Beamer, Orbital Strike Relay) - 160pts

Elites - Techmarine (Rad Grenades, Servo Skull x2) - 106pts

Troops - Grey Knight Strike Squad (4 Grey Knights and 1 Justicar, Psycannon) - 110pts

Troops - Grey Knight Strike Squad (4 Grey Knights and 1 Justicar, Psycannon) - 110pts

Troops - Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband 01 (10 Warrior Acolytes, Hot-shot Lasgun x7, Meltagun x2, Jokaero, Chimera) - 185pts

Troops - Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband 02 (5 Servitors, Multi-melta x3, 5 Warriors, Flamer, Bolter x4, Chimera) - 139pts

Troops - Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband 03 (6 Death Cult Assassins, 3 Crusaders, Mystic) - 145pts

Troops - Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband 04 (8 Psykers, 4 Warriors, 4 Bolters) - 100pts

Fast Attack - Stormraven Gunship (Twin-linked Lascannons, Twin-linked Multi-meltas) - 205pts

Heavy Support - Dreadknight (Heavy Incinerator, Nemesis Greatsword) - 185pts

Heavy Support - Dreadknight (Gatling Psilencer, Heavy Psycannon) - 205pts

Total 1750 points

New counts as details are as follows:

Grey Knight Strike Marines = Praetorian Maniple
- Storm Bolter = Las Disrupter
- Nemesis Force Sword = Power Axe/Blades with built-in disrupter fields
- Psycannon = Disrupter Cannon
- Warp Quake = Jamming Technology

Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband 03 =
- Death Cult Assassins = Mechanicus Assassins
- Crusaders = Secutors
- Mystic = Comms Servitor
- Psychic Beacon = Radar and Homing Beacon

Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband 04 =
- Psykers = Xenos weapon system; each psyker represented by a drone with 1 central drone being the focus point of the weapon. Think lots of little tesla coils and one bigger one.
- Warriors = Protectors

I'm waiting to see your customisations.

I will still make some changes in the list, at least try to give at everybody a transport. Only except the Strikers, eventually.

By the way, as a fluff list, isn't bad. Will only require some attention on the field.

Well, looks like an ambitious project. How about the two Henchmen squads without transports, one can be placed in the SR, the other should have a Chimera (I guess the psykers).

The assassin unit will go in the Stormraven with the techmarine. The plan was to have the psyker unit in cover. There is always room for changes further along, once i get some models done!

Mmmm a Psykers unit would need to move.
As the adversary's Psychic Hoods will close you'll need to go back.

Exchanging the 2 Chimera for 2 Rhinos give you 30 pts.
Dropping 2 Bolters Acolyte in the Psykers unit, to fit the maximom capacity of a Rhino, you'll gain 10 pts.

Et voilà the necessaries pts for a third Rhino.

Everything embarked but the Strikers that will eventually deep strike on the Mystic position and the CC Henchmen unit that will be embarked in the SR.

You will need to drop some elements of the firsts 2 Henchmen units to fit the 10 places on Rhinos.
In the second one especially, keeping one empty place for Coteaz.
This will give you some more spare point that you'll can use

Besides, 2 more things I haven't noticed about your last list:

1) In the Assassins unit change the proportions in 5 Death Cult Assassins and 4 Crusaders.

15x WS5 ST5 (Hammerhand) power weapon attacks at I6 + 10 WS4 ST4 power weapons attacks at I4 (all vs -1T targets) are quitely enough and that extra SS will be very usefull, trust me.

2) On the shooty Techmarine OR the Conv. Beamer OR the OSR. You'll can never shoot both of them so it is really a no-sense upgrade.

Thanks for the heads up on the assassins unit. I hadn't studied their effectiveness that closely. I have changed my new list.

I can just drop the OSR and get a rhino for the psykers. I already bought parts for my converted chimeras so they have to stay. I like the models too much.

Thanks again for your help Toban!

I don't think it matters too much in the end if the list isn't optimum. As long as I have fun building it and learning to play again. By the time I get good enough 6th edition will probably be here!
