As I’m not familiar with the Van Saar kits, can anyone weigh in with how essential two and one handed versions of the special weapons are?

The article says it’s compatible with both the basic Gang and the Champions set, so wondering if perhaps the double up isn’t as unusual as we first thought?

In the regular kit there's an arm with free hand, an arm wielding a stave, two arms for pistols, one for the shield and one for a combi weapon. All repeated twice since there are two identical set of sprues, as always. Since in the upgrade kit there are way more two handed special weapons than actual arms to wield them they should be 100% compatible with the arms that are meant to hold lasguns, las carbines or suppression lasers from the regular kit.

shoulder fired heavy weapons look far better than all these 'suitcase' style ones the marines etc use now

Funnily enough, it was the Orlock with Heavy Bolter from original Necromunda which was credited with popularising the off the shoulder look!

That was the model that got me into Necromunda!

It is interesting how heavy weapons have evolved. From the original "Shoulder mounted for everyone" which I'm guessing was due to difficulty in casting a heavy weapon in 3 dimensions out of a flat rubber mould that could also be held by two arms, to the advances in real world modelling that allowed that for the Necromundans and Marines while the Guard switched to guns on carriages/tripods.

Then Necromunda rolls back around in the cycle, and everyone else is carrying guns that look like the guard version that's been lifted off the tripod. They're clearly not meant to be fired like that. There's even fluff text in one of the books saying as much.

Then the Van Saar go full circle - but now it looks hi-tech! Because they're carrying a heavy weapon one handed, resting on their shoulder, and it's obviously meant to be used like that. Really quite cool.

I rather liked the old Van Saar heavy stubber. It would have been nice for all gangs to get heavy stubbers and heavy bolters just because of their ubiquity in the fluff and across imperial organisations.

That's true, and while I think you can Trading Post for them, it'd be nice to have the as models.

Van Saar Augmeks article

The Van Saar Augmeks, already on almost equal footing with their Prime leaders, are enough of a threat on their own due to their immense firepower. However, this new kit gives you the option to add one to your gang with a small entourage of eight-legged pals, which represent a twisted echo of their house sigil.

Cyberachnids are bred from Necromunda’s mutated spider population, and they’re cybernetically modified into loyal killing machines. If they’re not poisoning or tearing apart their enemies, they’re scaring them straight into their masters’ crosshairs.

Of course, the Augmek is deadly with or without their spindly squadmates.

In the Van Saar’s latest attempt to stay out of melee range, this Champion comes equipped with a hulking great lascannon to pick off rival gangers from almost anywhere on the board. This double-barrelled variant is unique to the Van Saar, and it’s one of the most devastating weapons used in the underhive, able to melt through heavy armour and wipe out even the toughest enemy brutes.

This Van Saar Augmek and his Cyberachnids will be arriving in the underhive later this year. In the meantime, you can check out their rules, and all things Van Saar, in the House of Artifice book.

Not yet. Price won't be available until it goes up for preorder, unless it's plastic.

Also I find it funny that someone was asking for lascannons, and then today bam--double barreled lascannon.

...those eight legged arachnids have six legs, don't they.

Well, the second one in the front seem to have all eight.

The mini is pretty cool, is it plastic?

Lascannon are effective sniper weapons. And the technology is ubiquitous throughout the imperium, so why not in the underhive. I don't think overkill has ever really been something that any military or paramilitary organisation has ever been that worried about.

Life is cheap in 40K, while technology is expensive.

No need to waste expensive ammunition or wear and tear on expensive gear on the lowest of the low just like how one doesn't waste a Vortex Grenade on Termagants. Though lascannons run off power packs, the conventional description is of one shot draining the pack. Even if the pack is recharged after the battle, I would imagine that repeated discharging and charging would shorten its life cycle.

Now if the new Necromunda gangs are more like paramilitary groups funded by their Houses than the old Necromunda hardscrabble gangs then that cost may still not be significant.

Well, the current lists kinda make the tech quite cheap. Or at least ubiquitous

That is, if you ain't a Cawdor ^^

Also, you have T6 W3 Goliaths running around.

Missions like Caravan Heist imply that there are indeed armoured vehicles rumbling around, involved in house operations.

The Zone Mortalis blast doors and the Gang Stronghold indicate the presence of dense, armoured positions.

And those are just examples drawn directly from rules and terrain kits. God forbid we actually use our imaginations to come up with other applications for heavy weaponry in the hive (which could be as simple as intimidation and reputational peacocking).

If you consider "lists" a source of background then Roboute Guillaman is equally ubiquitous in Ultramarine operations.

By now, Cawdor is the only gang remotely on the actual tech and equipement level of a Underhive Gang. These bastards could take over the Planet, and the Guard and PDF wouldn't be able to do squat.

And special characters are special characters, yeah. But for some reason even astartes lists seem to allow less grav guns per unit.
